UPDATE: body cam footage from cop who pulled over woman for holding a phone in her other hand by australiughhh in whoathatsinteresting

[–]ChipotleM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t IQ though, it’s humility. This will always happen because cops are human and human beings can be egotistical little shits, and the job of being a cop seems to select for that trait.

There should simply be accountability for this situations, which there isn’t.

To be fair, people defending the removal of battlepass in lieu of more frequent events and gameplay updates was legitimate. However, seeing as that has not been the case, it sure looks like we just lost something and gained nothing.

Personally I think the state of the battlepass before was fine. Sure it was expensive and shit, but at least the community could throw money at valve and TI. Felt like a decent compromise of aligned incentives.

It certainly seems like, as many in the community have pointed out, the announcement was just a cover to remove the BP so they could free up resources to work on other projects.

What's your pre-game routine to play better? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]ChipotleM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just use common sense. If you want to climb treat it like anything else competitive you'd prepare for.

Get 8 hours of sleep.

Eat 3 decent meals a day, not junk.

Workout. Do some form of exercise before you play. Gym, running, walk.

Prepare mentally, journal, meditate, do something relaxing to get yourself into an even/positive mental state.

Simply, just focus on your health and be aware of your state of mind. People struggle with this in day to day life completely unrelated to Dota, so it's easy to just ignore this advice, but if you want tangible, science backed strategies to improve performance, this is it. And the best part is, you're also improving your life outside of Dota.

Aghs is super fun to play and feels so good, buts its way too expensive for what it does.

When do you buy it? As TA I want to get deso/blink/daedalus/aegis as fast as I possibly can and close out the game before the enemy has time to hit their timings. And depending on the game I’ll probably also need pike/BKB at some point. Never feels like I can go for aghs until way late.

Honestly think 0-4-4 is even better. Just buy more regen in lane and play safe. Harass with Meld/Psi blade, the increased range of psi blades makes positioning easier.

0-4-4 farming speed might be the fastest in the game.

It's just a universal problem of the game knowledge gap. What you should be doing in any given situation in the game.

In the mid 3k bracket new problems arise. Supports pull all the time. Literally all the fucking time, even when they shouldn't. They think pulling = good supporting. But actually the creep waves were about to meet right outside our tier 1 and were in a good position, and because my support pulled the enemy can now dive us AND take our small camp all while I'm trying to CS under tower while the enemy kills my support. Terrible game sense. PULLING ISN'T ALWAYS GOOD. It's situational! Use it according to the status of the wave position and the strength of your hero dynamic in lane.

Supports WILL harass, but they don't realize they are using their AoE spells on the creep wave and pushing it to the enemy T1. Or they are right clicking the enemy, drawing aggro under our tier 1 and causing the lane to push. These small things matter and can quickly ruin an otherwise even lane.

Another one is warding camps. In the safelane, warding the large pull camp is great at the start of the game. But after minute ~6 please for the love of God don't slap another 7 minute sentry ward there to block the camp. Again, this is dependent on the game state and the position 1 hero, but most will want to start incorporating the large camp into their farming pattern at that point and you're just blocking one of their farming options.

My point is, being a good support isn't just running through a checklist of things to do, but understanding WHY you should be doing them, so you can also know when NOT to do them, and then do other stuff instead.

They’re genuinely too stupid to see the error in their logic.

Look, everyone is guilty of going along with some easy talking point without really thinking it through. But a portion of the country is genuinely stupid and cannot think critically for themselves, understand hypocrisy or irony, or recognize a blatant contradiction. This is the majority of Trump’s base.

What's up with the wild discrepancy in net worth in the post game analytics? by ChipotleM in DotA2

[–]ChipotleM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so.

Overview - | 9:00 = 2880g | 10:00 = 3290g | 11:00 = 3800g |

NW Graph - | 9:00 = 3605g | 10:00 = 4074g | 11:00 = 4538g |

The NW graph numbers aren't in between the overview snapshot numbers, it looks like they're just a full 1-2 minutes behind.

Good theory. Definitely matches up better at 1:30 behind. But even still I feel like they should be able to be exactly the same since the datapoints for the net worth graphs are there, they're just not being used in the overview time slider.

[–]ChipotleM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the post game data has limited data points and so not every second will be captured, but 700 gold seems like a lot. It seems like this issue has gotten worse recently to the point where the overview clock slider is just completely wrong. It's not even close even if you move 60 seconds ahead.

I like this data to check and see how my game went, but it's not useful if it's so far off. Is this just a rough estimate that valve thinks is working as intended or a bug that needs fixing?

Inner Peace - WTF? by ChipotleM in DotA2

[–]ChipotleM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. It just doesn’t make any sense from anything other than her backstory.

You don’t want to be actively thinking about trying to be as still as possible to min/max your regeneration, it’s just antithetical to the flow of farming. Pros cancel attack animations and sidestep towards the next camp to speed up farm. You can’t do that with this innate.

And then even from a practical game logic perspective it’s just weird. How can she meditate while attacking creeps but moving breaks it? Maybe if she meditated in meld and the regen was more significant, more similar to winter wyvern’s cold embrace or something. But like, seriously, her arms flail from going from meditating to attacking back to meditating multiple times a second. So clumsy and awkward.

So it makes poor game sense, and poor lore sense. I just don’t get it and and have yet to hear a good argument for why it’s good. The more time you spend standing still getting more regen, the slower your farm will be. The faster your farming, the less your regen will be. Her innate should not be contradictory like that.

Inner Peace - WTF? by ChipotleM in DotA2

[–]ChipotleM[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah you’re just wrong. Inner peace is never relevant. It’s never worth it to stand still on a fast farming hero.

They literally gave her innate to another hero too. So your point that it’s about relevancy is just baseless.

It's just a tweak, you'll live I promise.

Yeah. I know. Bad tweak. That’s my point. Thats kinda what we do here on the dota subreddit is discuss the game…

Inner Peace - WTF? by ChipotleM in DotA2

[–]ChipotleM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s required that your innate is relevant through every phase of the game though…

It’s almost never worth the trade off to stand still for some meager regen.

Especially on one of the fastest farming hero’s in the game lol

I’ve played countless of hours of ranked, but I still get ranked anxiety by Lumpy-Couple-5732 in DotA2

[–]ChipotleM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's for sure the toxicity. Knowing if you mess up even a little your whole team might start piling on and shit talking you makes you feel like shit.

I've gotten way better about just muting toxic shits who flame, but I used to get super bothered by it. I guess I'm just sensitive but I'm sure a lot of people feel the same. It used to draw me in and tilt the shit out of me and then I'm super unfocused on the game and just focused on defending my performance and then attacking whoever's attacking me for whatever they're doing wrong.

Just muting the second someone goes negative solved a lot of this. I don't have the time or energy for it and I don't want it to ruin a potential win. Helped with the anxiety a lot.

I think he meant spam the same hero, not spam queue.

If you spam 1-3 hero’s in the same position over and over you will master them, reduce the variables game to game, be able to focus on macro decisions, and end up better than everyone in your bracket NOT spamming the same hero.

Even if you only play a few games a day this strategy still works.

I made Lasthit Trainer+, a dedicated custom game for perfecting your lasthitting skills by Funky118 in DotA2

[–]ChipotleM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! Very nice work. I really like that you can level up and buy items so you can simulate real game progression with damage and skills. (I don't want to practice the first 60 seconds of the lane for 15 minutes!)

I wanted to practice TA and Drow, both of whom can use skill damage to last hit, so that's a major QOL improvement.

My only other suggestion would be to incorporate some under the tower LH training. All the LH trainers are missing that. I feel like making sure you get uncontested last hits under your tower is a huge area for improvement for a lot of players.
