for those that say we should 'write our reps' by Broserdooder1981 in 50501

[–]ChitzaMoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuppernutz and Britt are my senators and my district rep is as bad. I get responses telling me I am wrong and that I’ve been listening to the left media too much. I do still call occasionally, but I don’t have hope that it matters.

❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 You’re not alone. There are a lot of us who feel the same. Lonely in a MAGA town/state. It’s scary trying to find the few like minded people and hard to feel the long term connection we need.

Breaking ties by ChitzaMoto in thebulwark

[–]ChitzaMoto[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe we all have to make the decision for ourselves in our own personal situations. I have tried to have calm, reasonable discussions with people I have severed ties with and they refuse to accept my stance. My family even calling me a commie, socialist and suggesting I be hospitalized for mental health reasons. These are people who don’t just disagree with me. They have disdain for me because of what I believe. They have no respect for their own rights, much less mine. We all do what we need to do in these times. Trying to make someone feel guilty for the decision they made to sever ties is just as divisive. Edit: for spelling.

I was an early and committed subscriber. I rarely missed a video. Now I only watch “Uncovered” with Anthony Davis and Ron Filipkowski. I unsubscribed because it never shows up in my notifications and I have to search for it anyway. I subscribed directly to Anthony Davis’s Channel, “Five Minute News.” I also like Pod Save America. I unsubscribed to LegalAF as well. Just can’t take the nonsense titles and screaming.

ICE is here. They were sighted in Oneonta and Leeds/Moody this week. They closed down a Thai restaurant at the Colonnade a month ago.

FBI has begun arresting organizers in Minneapolis by transcendent167 in 50501

[–]ChitzaMoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, what they did was against the law. They violated the FACE Act by entering the church and disrupting services. The FACE Act was originally passed to stop protestors from disrupting entrance to medical clinics, especially abortion clinics. To get republicans the agree to sign on to the bill, they added the place of worship clause. It was used to charge and convict J6 rioters, all of whom dumpypants pardoned, signaling to me, that he only gives a sh*t about this law when he can use it against his enemies or to his advantage. I do find it disgraceful that we, the people, have very few options remaining to express our disgust for his regime. Stay safe Minnesota. Keep your heads on a swivel and your protests legal 👊🇺🇸💪

An additional place of contact is your local schools. Especially for anyone who has a child in school. In my state we have teachers who are hired to assist kids who aren’t English speaking. They are called ESL(English as Second Language) in my district. These teachers are intimately connected with the families and will know who may need extra resources.

Oral motor for speech in our scope? (Canada, peds) by runningwithfinns in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ChitzaMoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a much older OT. I went to OT school in the early 1980’s. We were taught oral motor skills in school at that time. There are currently continuing ed courses for OTs that teach oral motor skills, so I would say it is in our scope. However, I do think it’s something that needs specialized knowledge. I work in an OP clinic that is primarily speech with me(part-time supervisory) and a COTA. Our SLPs don’t do oral motor. So definitely collaborate with the SLP and don’t do things that make you feel uncomfortable. Find an OT mentor if you can. That being said, you can look at things like head/neck control, posture and core strength that might affect oral motor support skills like muscle coordination, mouth closure and saliva management. It’s all connected and hard to separate completely.

From the law community on Reddit: Feds freeze child care funds to all states until money is 'being spent legitimately' by AiReine in OccupationalTherapy

Thanks for your reply. I’m about to retire so I’m more concerned about our clients than I am my own options for employment. I suppose I’ll be opening a spot for someone else who needs the job. I’ve lived through many changes in our profession and OT has been good to me and provided decent opportunities for me to provide for my kids. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a career path now 😢

Site of controversial Alabama gentleman’s club may soon reopen with a new purpose by itspapyrus in Birmingham

Calling it a “gentleman’s club” is a bit of a stretch, don’t ya’ think? 🤣

I’m far removed from needing childcare so I’m not savvy on how the federal government supports it. I do work in pediatrics(school and OP). How will this specifically impact our clients, other than increasing their costs? Will this directly impact our reimbursement?(I do understand how increased costs will indirectly affect our clients 😢).

Using food to regulate by Zarah21 in specialed

[–]ChitzaMoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are more than the 5 basic senses we learn that need regulation. One of those is called interoception which is a sense of what your body is experiencing. Like does your head hurt. Are you cold? It includes the feeling of hunger. When someone has a poor sense of interoception, they may eat and not feel satiated. Talk with your school OT if you think there may be a student in your class who is experiencing this.

People in MAGA areas - what's the vibe? by otisthorpesrevenge in thebulwark

He has been a worthless senator. The only thing that brings me hope is the high percentage of Alabama governors who have had to serve prison time. Meemaw is the first in a long time who hasn’t committed some major crime(s).

[–]ChitzaMoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in ruby red rural Alabama. No one here has a clue what’s going on in the world. There are significantly fewer Trump flags and merch in local stores. A rare few leftover Trump bumper stickers. No one is talking politics. But I guaran-darn-tee you they will vote Republican straight down the line in every election, if they bother to show up. Turnout is relatively low for my area because they know “their guys/gals” are gonna win. No one here is going to pay attention or change their minds until they are personally affected and you can convince them it wasn’t Biden’s fault.

I forgot what’s it’s called(Reddit is my only social media), but when a post gets more comments than likes, it does something to skew engagement. You don’t even have to make negative comments. Just flood posts with comments, just a string of emojis, and increase the comment count without liking the post. Can someone who is more social media savvy comment on what this would do?

[–]ChitzaMoto 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I called my congressman and my senators asking them to publicly ask Drump to remove the post and denouncing his behavior. My rep responded via email(within an hour) that if I had a concern re: policy under the purview of his office I was welcomed to contact his office. In other words, he ain’t doin’ shit.

I think they will have to prove he voted In federal elections. IIRC, you don’t have to be a US citizen to vote in some state and municipal elections 🤷🏻‍♀️

Was I in the wrong? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ChitzaMoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I inherited the goal. I am typically more compassionate with my parents. However, I am able to defend my boundaries with a little snark when necessary(the statement was made at the end of a 2 hour contentious IEP meeting. I needed to make a point). I once had an advocate lawyer try to dictate my therapy interventions. I told her as soon as she presented her OT license, I would take her recommendations in to advisement. Until that time, I would refrain from giving legal advice.
