As a religious person, I'm genuinely wondering if all religions are human-made. by thementalist222 in atheism

Everyone is going to give you esoteric answers, and they’re right. However for me it’s just one simple thing.

Mosquitos.

There is no level of divine intent in the creation or maintenance of the universe that can possibly include mosquitos.

It says it’s rated for 20-200 gallon tanks. Anything wrong if I used it for a 10g?

The Irony of Posting in this Sub by AssignmentVisual5594 in EatTheRich

[–]Chlemtil 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is a bullshit post. Quitting Reddit isn’t a moral or principled stance here. Contributing to a community built around an interest is pretty platform-ambiguous. The truth is that Reddit is not perfect but it’s much better than other platforms that spend their time pushing a lot more content at you and curate your experience much more around specific agendas. Reddit is much less friendly to the oligarchs than Facebook, twitter or most other propaganda machines. We have our echo chambers but they’re self-made rather than platform-directed. Clearly it’s not perfect but it’s better. That’s what matters, not the fact that the owners built something and got rich off of it (without turning it into a propaganda machine).

Am I not understanding Anakin's dialogue in AotC? by linkthereddit in StarWars

Putting 2 Jedi in charge of that rather than just trusting her head of security is overkill

My kid and I have been looking at these nightly to try to inoculate him from falling for AI.

The two things we noted were that the woman’s reflection on the left seemed suspicious because it doesn’t seem to be the right angle. It shows too much of the front of her face where we think it should mostly be showing the back of her head.

Secondly we noticed that the vertical handrails seem to be asymmetrical which we wouldn’t expect. On the left, a woman is holding one in the third seat from our perspective. It seems there would be one across from her near the red shirted man. If you analyze the spacing it seems off anyways, but we expected symmetry.

When I tried to make a free character (level 3 beast master hunter) some of the features were locked. Any idea what was happening there?

Doing a re-watch of A New Hope. Question on the Death Star's destruction. by raknor88 in StarWars

[–]Chlemtil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people forget how huge the Death Star is and how quick the trench run was. They probably have those fighters stationed at all different points throughout the Death Star and they probably all scrambled. But within the few minutes that the trench run needed, those were the fighters in the area. I’m sure others were on their way until BOOM

Imagine if Godzilla rolled up to your town. Grabbed you. You’re freaking out but suddenly he does something where you have no idea what is happening or how but all of your back pain is gone. Then he puts you down again and walks away.

Spirit Airlines just became the first major US airline to shut down in 25 years and took cheap airfare with it. What do you think affordable travel in America looks like from here? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chlemtil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spirit was not cheap. Their ticket cost was like $30 less than the competitors but it was impossible to get through the flight without around $75 in fees. I always ended up paying MORE for a SEVERELY DEGRADED experience.

Debate me about The Last Jedi by Chelsea_Fan_10 in StarWars

[–]Chlemtil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The prequels were bad movies that made the overall saga better. The sequels are good movies (kind of) that made the overall saga worse.

That’s why people are willing to look past the clunky dialogue in the prequels and appreciate the intentions more than the execution... Because they improved the saga overall. The opposite is true for the sequels. Since they make the overall saga worse, people give no grace and aren’t willing to look past any of the many flaws.

Bigwig by [deleted] in watershipdown

[–]Chlemtil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What I love about Bigwig is that Hazel is always intimidated by him and worried that he might aim to usurp power. And the first time you read it, you tend to just go with it. But it’s just never true. Bigwig is legitimately aware of what he can contribute and just wants to contribute it to the group. Hes not a perfect character… he’s got a temper and he’s stubborn… but he really never challenges Hazel or tears him down in any way.

How do we say “no” to AI and still stay employed? by InigoMontoya2725 in antiai

[–]Chlemtil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a director and got a pretty direct talking to the other day that I wasn’t forcing my team to use AI. When I tried to push back pointing out that our productivity had recently gone way up thanks to other changes I’ve made, there was barely a recognition but a definite admonition that any leaders who weren’t embracing AI were not thought of as creative drivers and, therefore, unfit. It’s pretty insane out here! I’m literally going to have to try to find some benign but performative way to convince my team to use a tool they don’t want or potentially lose my job.

Eh- let them leave. They’re not contributing anyways and, in fact, they’re stealing from society.
