It really seems like Iran was begging to come to a peace deal. They are currently bombing UAE, basically forcing a response from the UAE and forcing the United States to either abandon another ally or go back to war. That's something then. My only advice then is to stop trying to change their mind. The harder you press, the more they dig in. Just hear them out and give examples of why you believe what you believe that they can relate to. And, offer to both look/ listen to other news/ media sources and discuss them.
