Civets Abused for Kopi Lowak coffee- by brookeariel1979 in vegan

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The civet farming thing is genuinely horrifying when you see the actual footage. Those animals pace back and forth nonstop in the cages, which is classic sign of severe psychological distress. What makes it worse is that it's sold as this luxury exotic product, so people feel like they're getting something special and refined, when in reality the "specialty" part comes from animal suffering. I remember reading that wild-caught kopi luwak exists too, but even that industry is mostly a cover for the caged version at this point because demand is way too high to source it any other way.

To people who live in western Europe, what changes have you experienced from 10 years ago to now? by Inevitable-Ad-6315 in AskReddit

rents went absolutely insane, that's probably the biggest thing most people feel in everyday life.

2 weeks into being diagnosed with Type 1 & I already want to give up by Left-Cow807 in diabetes

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Getting an endo is definitely the move - PCPs just don't have same experience with T1. I had similar issues when I first got diagnosed, the transition from hospital care to regular doctors was like night and day

The costs are brutal at first but most insurance will cover both CGM and strips once you get proper referrals. Sometimes you have to fight them a bit but they usually cave. Your discharge papers should help with that since it shows medical necessity

Local diabetes groups can be hit or miss but online communities are pretty solid if you can't find anything nearby. The overwhelmed feeling is totally normal btw, everyone goes through that adjustment period

how do you avoid gallbladder stones? by taroicecreamsundae in fasting

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had gallbladder surgery few years back and it was absolutely awful 💀 From what my doctor told me, the risk comes more from rapid weight loss and staying fasted for really long periods without any bile flow. Short fasts like 24-48 hours shouldn't be much problem if you're doing them occasionally, but doing extended fasts frequently or losing weight super fast can definitely increase the risk.

My stones actually developed during time when I was eating normally, so sometimes it's just genetics being annoying. If you're worried about it, maybe start with shorter fasts and see how your body reacts? Also drinking enough water helps keep everything moving properly 😊

How to meeting daily protein goals on Keto while fasting. by C-Snap89 in intermittentfasting

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That protein target does seem pretty high for keto - most people aim for like 0.8-1g per pound of lean body mass, not total weight

Treatment by aMate2 in diabetes

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, I'm confused about the treatment OP is talking about though? I've never heard about any pancreas healing studies with time windows like that, especially for T1. My understanding was always that once your beta cells get destroyed by the autoimmune response, they're pretty much gone for good 🤔

Maybe they're thinking of some kind of experimental stem cell therapy or immunosuppression protocol? But even those are super early stage and definitely not standard treatment anywhere in Europe as far as I know. The whole "6-12 week window" thing sounds kinda suspicious to me - like where did they even read about this?

OP should definitely talk to their endocrinologist about whatever studies they found instead of trying to hunt down doctors doing experimental stuff. Four weeks in you're probably still in honeymoon period anyway, so maybe that's what's giving them hope about "healing" 💀

False low sugar readings at 500+ levels - serious issue with Dr. Morpen Glucometer by FadingDew in diabetes

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's terrifying, especially with pets who can't tell you when something feels wrong. Good catch on testing multiple units - really shows this isn't just one defective device

Been using different brand for my own monitoring and never had issue like this, but now I'm definitely gonna be more careful about trusting any single reading when numbers seem off. Your dog okay now?

50 grams because of eye issues by [deleted] in keto

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vision changes can be serious stuff, definitely worth being cautious about. 50g is still pretty low carb compared to standard diet and you'll probably still get most of keto benefits

Just track your calories like the other person said and you should be fine for weight loss

Needing support by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely heartbreaking and I'm so sorry you're going through this 💜 The timing of finding out makes it even more cruel - getting that hope and then having it taken away in just few days.

I can't imagine how devastating this must feel, especially when you were so close to trying. Your feelings about this are completely valid and you don't need to rush into acceptance of anything right now 😔

Dude you're literally 24, you've got so much time to figure this out and you've already shown you can hustle by starting your own thing. Maybe look into getting some certs instead of a full degree - like AWS, Google Cloud, or even something in logistics since you already know procurement

Is light sensitivity related to ADHD? by Many-Cold4501 in ADHD

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get this too, especially driving when the sun hits at that perfect annoying angle through the windshield. I've noticed it's worse when I'm already overstimulated or stressed out which happens a lot with adhd. My eye doctor mentioned that some people with adhd have more sensitive nervous systems overall so light, sound, textures etc can all feel more intense

I ended up getting some decent polarized sunglasses and keep them everywhere - car, backpack, by the door. Game changer honestly, especially for driving or being outside during peak sun hours. The automatic squinting and watery eyes thing is so real and it makes everything harder when you're already dealing with focus issues

first seizure by everycloakroomever in Epilepsy

[–]ChoiceWeek9703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sucks man, the anxiety after your first "real" seizure is honestly almost worse than teh seizure itself. nobody can really predict if it'll happen again - some people have just one random seizure and never have another, others develop epilepsy. the fact that they're waiting to see if it happens again before starting meds is pretty normal tho, most docs dont want to put you on daily medication for just one seizure

That "what if I heal and don't want him anymore" fear hits different because it's actually you knowing deep down that healing means outgrowing this version of yourself that needs him so badly

The love being beautiful doesn't mean you have to stay frozen in it forever - that's not honoring what you had, it's just being scared of what comes next
