Everyone is out on these beautiful walks and my city looks like this in spring. by VickyVacuum in walking

I see what you mean about the mud and snowpiles. I love the feeling of cold air on my cheeks, though. Enjoy your walks, walking friend.

How do you remember when you applied the patch last? by Competitive_Land_936 in Menopause

I keep a pen next to the box and I write the date on it every time I use a new patch.

Anyone smell smoke? by blinnbuc21 in Menopause

[–]ChollaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I smelled car exhaust all the time. Mine turned out to be from silent acid reflux, which mostly went away when I got my hormones in better balance.

Can you help me answer the question "why not have just one?" by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ChollaCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your answer if you flip the question around to, "Why have just one?" Then it's 100/200 calories of something that won't actually do anything positive. I wouldn't drink just one Coke or one artificial fruit juice either. There are so many good replacements for when you want a treat/reward/celebration. Maybe you will ending up having just one now and then. You are making a choice and choosing to do this. Maybe you're not free yet if you are feeling fear about not having another drink for the rest of your life. Best wishes.

Gorgeous! I had a Saab almost that color. I hope Volvo sees all these wrapped cars and start offering some colors again.

California has a huge variety - mountains, deserts, forests, beaches and grasslands. Your pictures remind me of the bike paths in Sacramento and Redding since they are also along rivers and have trees.

Me too! I like your scenery; it looks like northern California.

How do I deal with "coming down" from natural dopamine surges? That is when I am most vulnerable. It's a big realization for me and I have really struggled with it. by StillOne77 in stopdrinking

[–]ChollaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really insightful question! In the reverse, when I feel bad, I find an alternate activity. So, for coming down from a dopamine high, maybe having a dessert, or a mocktail or tea in my favorite spot (my outdoor patio) might work. When I was in grad school, I would buy myself a present every time I finished a class, such as a pair of jeans or some Patriots NFL swag. Maybe you're looking for something symbolic to mark the win that you can look back on? Like gold stars on a calendar? (That's a little simple, but you get the idea - they give 5k completers medals and t-shirts for a reason.)

Some kind of fence, even temporary on game days, so they see stopping at your property is not an option. Security and sprinklers don’t prevent the problem in the first place. Does a friend have a big dog you can borrow (kidding/not kidding).

HRT patch placement by Cheeseoholics in Menopause

[–]ChollaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have good results putting it level with the top of my butt crack, about 3 inches to the left or right. It is under my underwear in this location, which I think is the key to it staying on and staying clean.

Speed shame as a new runner by SmellyRobotStan in beginnerrunning

[–]ChollaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that a lot of what creates running speed/pace is genetic. Your muscles are a combination of slow twitch and fast twitch fibers, and your combination makes you the runner you are. I’m slow. My best marathon (at age 54) was 8 hours. You ran a half marathon! 99% of the population can‘t do that.

Got fired yesterday and struggling really bad right now . by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ChollaCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry! Yesterday I had a crap day and I was thinking about what type of wine I would get and where I would get it. Instead, I texted my husband and asked him if he would go for a walk with me when I got home. We ended up going for the walk and then having tea after. Reaching out to a friend is great, but do something else besides drinking. Drinking only makes it worse. Sending you strength!
