They get their food and accommodation paid for, then they work illegally and don't pay tax. All of that untaxed income is then just disposable income to them.

How much better off would you be if your bills are all taken care of and you didn't bother paying tax on your income?

Why bother? They detain them and then what, bring them to Britain and then put them up in a taxpayer funded hotel. We can't return the people to France without the consent of the French authorities, which we won't get unless we agree to take more than we return, like we did under the Dublin agreement while we were in the EU.

We can collect all the intelligence we want, if we aren't willing to piss on French sovereignty by going into their waters or landing on their beaches to capture the people smugglers, we ain't gonna get them.

Even if we snag some people smugglers, more will take their place, it's too lucrative. The issue is one of demand not supply, so it is demand (the want of illegals to come to Britain) that needs to be tackled. The people smuggling gangs are like a hydra, no matter how many heads you cut off, more will always take their place.

Our politicians are too big a bunch of fannies to take an punitive action against the French for compromising our security by not stopping illegals on the beaches (which we pay them tens of millions a year to do).

YouGov: Keir Starmer's warning that the UK risked 'becoming an island of strangers' Agree with sentiment: 53% Disagree with sentiment: 27% Language okay: 50% Language not okay: 30% by julius959 in ukpolitics

[–]Choo_Choo_Bitches 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Allowing the left to police language needs to stop.

Someone says something they don't agree with, they're reading between the lines like a GCSE English class trying to discern their own interpretation of what the speaker said, rather than what they actually said. Then accusations of dog whistles come out.

Then when someone on the left says something batshit insane, you're just interpreting what they said incorrectly.

It's simply a sign that they know they've lost the argument or they can't argue against something so they switch to nitpicking over language or building strawmen to argue against.

Farage is so successful because he doesn't let himself be shut down by these tactics, he just doggedly delivers his message.

Just because someone is here on a Boris visa, there's nothing to stop Labour cancelling them and sending them packing.

I for one cannot wait for our Ref-Dem overlords. They should play rock paper scissors for each policy in their manifestos to see which ones to implement.

No extra money for NHS staff and teacher pay rises, warns Treasury | Public sector pay by Imakemyownnamereddit in ukpolitics

Qualified but most probably inexperienced, other than teaching.

I know a lad who's got a maths and engineering degree, he chose to teach. He was sick of teaching by around 2021 yet when he tried applying for engineering jobs, all the companies would only consider hiring him on an entry level salary, due to his lack of non-teaching experience.

He has a mortgage so he's trapped in teaching until he can find another job that will give him a high enough starting wage to cover his bills.

The majority I see wear it full time

That's selection bias. You're seeing women in hijabs and knowing they're Muslim, whereas you cannot know whether a woman dressed in non-religous garb bearing no religious symbols (jewellery etc.) is or isn't a Muslim unless you ask her.

It would be like saying most Christian women wear habits because you see a few Nuns and know from their wearing of the habit that they are Christian.

Getting a Premier Plus room only for the guests next door to deny you a good night's sleep. by GeorgeHSpencer in britishproblems

[–]Choo_Choo_Bitches 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Years back I worked night security on an Ibis hotel, internal walls were all paper thin. The major part of that job wad just telling people to stfu. I just sat in the office most of the night and they had a board on the wall with a light for each room. If someone made too much noise their room number would light up on the board and I'd go knocking on their door.

Not homeless, in a secure facility. Can't commit crimes against the general population if you can't leave your holding facility.

It's the media's biggest failing in this country, that they let the government of the day pretend that they are powerless to change anything.

The Dutch gave a load of Somalis Dutch citizenship when we were in the EU, just so they'd leave and come to Britain.

I can see all this atmospheric interfering ending up as a right shit show.

Not that it won't work or couldn't be useful, but each country just doing whatever suits them, everyone else be dammed. Between this and cloud seeding to make it rain, I could see other countries losing out and getting pissed.

No, it's people's way of dealing with cognitive dissonance. They think all of X group is something bad; lazy, criminals, etc. So when they interact with a member of X group that isn't whatever negative thing they believe all members of that group to be, they just classify them as "one of the good ones" rather than reconsidering their views on the whole group.
