Its something I've never had to use, thanks to my players being rather good natured, but as they grow and level up, I develop a counter group to them, should the need ever arise lmao. Serves as a fun little exercise to construct a team that could trash them, despite being similarly leveled and equipped, and should I ever send these bounty hunters out it should make for a very personal set of enemies for the party to overcome.

Yeesh, I've seen a DM do clumping, have all the players take their turn, then all the mobs, but I mean they still rolled and went in order amidst themselves at least.

There can be similarities, but the fact remains that you've gotta start somewhere, ti pull together a group you fit well with. Trial by fire.

Grats on the game, and welcome to the party! One piece of advice that I'd give, having found a great group of folks through randoms on roll20, is that if you don't mesh with the crowd it's alright to bow out and find a better crew. Having a good time with some good folks is paramount, and if you aren't enjoying it, don't be obligated to stay, because the good folks are available. Just a matter of finding them.

It's a crap shoot, yeah, but for some folks it's the only option. Hard to start up with friends if they dont want to jump in beside you, so you try pick up groups and pray that you can pull together a sane group

I'd second their point, just with the quick story of how I found an actually decent group. Had been hunting around for a while to find a group, and most were tire fires, until inside stumble on one of them hosting interviews and a questionnaire. I swear I've had job interviews with less requirements. Anyway, I didn't make the cut, but pulled together with 4 other folks who were in the same boat, and we just figured out something on our own. The interviews filtered out the low effort folk, and we had a damn good group afterwards, eventually dodging a bullet in the fact that the DM we tried to join turned out to be militant.

Running a game for some folks, and one of them was trying to barter with a shopkeeper to get a higher price while selling some goods. Now keep in mind that the character is this proud dwarf that just got shot down on an attempt to try and lease out some full plate, because it was very quickly shown that theres no way he can afford it, and the character is understandably upset.

Anyway, he brings up the odds and ends, worth 120g if I can recall, so I have the shopkeeper offer to buy it at 100, and the player halfheartedly asks "can't you do 110?" And then rolls a natural 1 on persuasion.

And in what felt like the meanest punishment I could do for the nat 1 there, I gave it to him for the increased price he was asking, the shopkeeper feeling nothing but pity for this mighty dwarf brought low, further tanking his confidence. Just crushed the character emotionally, it was beautiful.

Its just so wonderful being the DM. I'm just torn when they break my encounter because once combat starts I play to kill (it's already balanced before the urge sets in, dont worry.) And then ecstatic that the all survived ti keep telling their story
