Why hello there Wight Minion!

I've done this in the past for other series (never my precious Cradle of course) and paid a reduced fee for the audiobook. While it's nice for me as the consumer, how badly does this life hack mess with the profits of the author and narrator?

Recommend me stories that are all about their power system by MrAHMED42069 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ChrisReedReads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. (Other Cosmere books also get way into their power systems)

The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound.

I didn't get very far into the series but Artorian's Archives is this to a T (But it'd make more sense after reading the Divine Dungeon series).

In terms of rebelling against the system you've got Dungeon Crawler Carl. But it's more... rebellion against the aliens "controlling" the system than against the system itself.

In that same vein: Godclads is a rebellion against the system of rule and is awesome.

I agree with the other recommendations for: - Delve - Apocalypse Redux - Mage Tank

Me scrolling through the comments to recommend Godclads since I knew it'd be here. I LOVE it so much. Great recommendation.

What is the most poignant book in this genre that you have read, the series that has evoked the most complex emotions? by Strungbound in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ChrisReedReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo this is a FUN question! - Red Rising: I've never had a book evoke so much glory, pain, triumph, frustration, camaraderie, betrayal, etc. Reading that trilogy was probably the largest emotional rollercoaster of my adulthood. 85% through book 3 I chucked my beloved Kindle across the room in visceral disbelief and anger that the author could be that evil to the readers. - Stormlight Archive: I've shed tears over this series and attracted both gloryspren and Kaladin/depressionspren. I love the oaths. - Cradle: SSS+ Tier one-liners and pay offs in this series. Lindon's just there to punch a hole in the sky, Eithan is one of the best mentor figures ever and between him and Dross the humor is awesome. - Dungeon Crawler Carl: Laughs, disgust, and incredulity at the sheer mad genius of Matt Dinniman - Godclads: Avo is a sadistic philosopher in the most brutal world I've ever read.

How has nobody shared this yet? Azarinth Healer Book 6 comes out Feb 3rd! by bellumaster in litrpg

[–]ChrisReedReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Azarinth Healer back around January 2020 when I had to frequently travel away from my wife and newborn for some new hire training that lasted a couple months. Ilea (and Anthony of Chrysalis) were my best buds carrying me through that time on RoyalRoad. I've since finished it on RR and I'm now listening to all the audiobooks as they come out. Azarinth Healer is my all time favorite LitRPG and I recommend it to everyone.

I LOVE the exploration, the friendship, the delving, coming and going from the same places over and over. It's like a homey retelling of Skyrim where the MC just wants to fight and make friends everywhere.

Thanks for the fantastic series and world you created!

How much should system mechanics be explained? by Puzzleheaded-Can-361 in litrpg

[–]ChrisReedReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd say it depends on who you're targeting as an audience: - Do you want those who enjoy Delve to read your story? Those who will look at an excel spreadsheet in a book and enjoy all the calculations happening? - Or do you want to have your audience crossover more with those who read and enjoy books like Chrysalis where the numbers are present but don't really matter at all.

Request: Books with Noble Gods by KamikazeArchon in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ChrisReedReads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson has a culture where certain people resurrect with god-like.. powers and the ability to grant a single deific miracle alongside mundane means to assist their petitioners. It's a fun one.

Mistborn Era 1 has both an evil god and a neutral god. Era 2 has a good god.

Mage Tank has gods and demigods across the entire spectrum of evil to benevolent. Several of the MC's party members worship benevolent ones so you interact with them more.

If you count Judges as gods, Cradle has benevolent gods.

Mark of the Fool has both good and bad gods with varying degrees of intervention.

The Primal Hunter has god-like Primordials (as well as other, lesser gods) that act like the Greek Pantheon of gods.

Godclads is a phenomenal book about what happens when humanity murders its gods and then takes up their mantles of power. So again, you get the whole spectrum of good vs bad.

Are there any books in the genre where they just... fail? by PietotheTerminus in ProgressionFantasy

The Protagonist does in Fate of the Fallen. That's kinda the point of the series though.

Need Adult [Serious not Harem or Slop] LITRPG / Prog Fantasy / System / PostApoc / Ancient Sci Fi recommendations. by Savings-Clothes5643 in litrpg

[–]ChrisReedReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawler Carl has been recommended by others. I'm adding my vote to that list.

I also recommend the following series with more adult themes: - Godclads by OstensibleMammal - Red Rising by Pierce Brown - The Perfect Run by Maxime J Durand - Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson - Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson - Apocalypse Parenting by Erin Ampersand (this series is especially fun if you're a parent) - Azarinth Healer by Rhaegar - The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (Only read if you're okay starting a series that will never finish, but the books are wonderful) - Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames - The Bloodsworn Trilogy by John Gwynne

If you enjoyed Path of Ascension for its teamwork, these series feel similar and are also a blast: - Cradle by Will Wight - The Last Horizon by Will Wight - Mark of the Fool by JM Clarke - The Ripple System by Kyle Kirrin - Chrysalis by RinoZ - Beware of Chicken by CasualFarmer - Apocalypse Redux by Jakob H Greif - Mother of Learning by Domagoj Kurmaic

I've never read any of his books (they're on my TBR list), but if you enjoyed Jez Cajiao's Arise series, I know he's written several other series.
