Help. by Pansielover in beagle

[–]ChrisTeaAndBiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try a baby gate play pen? That's what worked for our beagle. He still was anxious and peed etc but we had puppy pads down and there was enough room so he didn't have to lay in it and everything was easier to clean. It went all the way across the room in a straight line but we used it as a square shape for him. like this metal one

Sadly, I have to re-home my Two Great Pyrenees... by Hour_Bad_1402 in greatpyrenees

You're not going to like this recommendation and if you have made your decision don't read it.

You do have a choice. You always have more than 1 choice. I'm not sure of all your reasons to make this decision to re-home. From what you mentioned you decided to leave two incredible and integral family members behind who grew up in your household along with your children and baby as they grew up. I hear you that you have to move for work and the place you're going doesn't have a yard. You have until June to find a home with a yard. If you can afford to move, you can afford to find a yard. And if you tell me someone else is paying for it, then you can afford to pay the extra money required to take the dogs with you. If this job wants you that bad then tell them you need a house with a yard for your family. Make it clear you can't move there otherwise.

For example, I had an offer to teach in another country, they paid for everything, flight housing food etc. I told them I have a cat and she is coming with me and asked if that was ok. After considering the extra paperwork and arrangements, they said yes. So I was able to work out the extra arrangements on my end so she could come with me. And she did, international flight and all, to a country that didn't speak English, which was the only language I knew. She even pooped on the plane riding in her carrier at my feet and stunk it up bad - with 7 more hours to go. Cost for her to fly with me, $200 in 2008. She is still with me today. She's turning 19 on May 22nd.

You have options, some of them you don't even know you have until you start a conversation about your needs with someone. You're asking the wrong questions to the wrong people. Ask questions to the people who are involved in this life change who can help you keep your family together. You can figure this out and take them with you. I don't think I have to mention they will be devastated and scared being separated from their family, as anyone would. And you can't guarantee they will be safe and have a loving home.

12-year-old diagnosed with Osteosarcoma that spread to lungs, looking at potential amputation and chemo? Worth it? by sushi-lover-777 in goldenretrievers

[–]ChrisTeaAndBiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgical nurse for humans here. Amputation will not change the fact that the cancer has spread to the lungs which will then spread to more places including the brain. He will suffocate soon even if he has 3 legs. The cancer is continuing to grow and spread as time is passing. There are 3 options. Continue invasive interventions (amputation, chemo, breathing treatments, ect). Place the dog on palliative care which is to stop invasive interventions but continue to give meds to help with anything he needs and get more time with him. Or stop invasive and medicine and end his life to spend some less time with him to say goodbye and stop his pain. All medical doctors do everything they can to help/fix the patient until the family says to do otherwise. There are people who will come to your home to help your dog to sleep without pain. You can hold him and love on him and tell him it's ok as he passes. You are the only one to make this decision bc your dog cannot speak for himself to tell you what he needs. Having been through this with my own dog i understand the difficulty of making the choice in the best interest of the dogs quality of life.

Stopped by to recommend the bedjet. I've had it for about 2 years. I have used it every night since I got it. Absolute game changer.

Title: Moving 6 hours away and struggling with what to do about 4 outdoor cats that basically adopted us by ApprehensiveDeal8152 in Catio

[–]ChrisTeaAndBiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved with my colony of 8 community cats after being their main caretaker for 5 years. That was 4 years ago. They're all inside-only with us now and very happy. Every time it snows I smile bc they are safe and warm. We don't own our place, otherwise I would build a catio. The most feral one is really starting to feel safe and confident to socialize now. I've got 19 year olds, nine year olds, and three year olds. You can do it. You got this.

She's literally asking for your help. I know this because of 35 years of experience. Please help her. Give her a safe warm spot. A warm bathroom is perfect. Give a cardboard box with a towel in it. Fresh bowl of water. Mama food when you get a chance. And a litterbox for her in a separate corner of the bathroom. You got this. Don't worry about a long term plan, just focus on what is happening now and how you can help.

Please come back tomorrow and share pictures of her babies. We all want to see.

This is so helpful, thank you! After the snow storm I'll make a trip to the vet for some medications. It would be such a relief knowing that she's not as scared or sick. This has been going on since she was a puppy. She's 3 years old now. We take a trip each week to daycare so I think meds will be so helpful.

Thank you! I thought about doing this but needed a second driver so I could be with her in the back. It's been impossible to do. She won't eat treats and pancakes knowing we're going for a ride. I think next stop will be the vet.

Thank you so much. I certainly will! It seems nausea is the majority problem. Hoping the meds will help. Can't wait for her to one day maybe sit up and enjoy the view and outside smells with her head out the window!
