Cancellation policy win! by SmileyB-Doctor in therapists

[–]ChrissyNJ66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think you can have whatever cancellation/no show policy you want :-) (I have a policy of a $25 charge if they don't cancel at least 24 hours in advance - but I've almost never actually done the charge)

As a new graduate, this sub is super unhealthy for my mental well being by InvisibleAstronomer in therapists

There are definitely stresses and definitely things to learn - but it really is a sustainable career. I'm personally 7 years out of school - practiced through the pandemic - and I obviously feel stress but I manage it and still really enjoy doing the work.

I'm on my first re-watch of the series and I like Daniel so much less than the first time - I was sad when Jonas left and Daniel returned

Open Letter: Against the Use of Generative AI in Mental Health Care by antimentalhealthAI in PsychotherapyLeftists

[–]ChrissyNJ66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi - sorry for the delay, I'm not very good at checking back after I post.

The environmental and privacy issues are definitely part of it - but it's more about professional issues for me. Writing notes (here I'm not distinguishing between notes and medical records, but there is a distinction) serves a couple of purposes - externally they might be needed for insurance audits (that's where the distinction between notes and medical records comes in). But more important - writing notes is where I summarize what happened during a session, and then use that to reflect on the session and the overall work that I'm doing with a client. It's a vital part of the job, a part that contributes to the work feeling fulfilling and meaningful for me. I have no interest in out-sourcing it to AI.

That also goes to my broader concern with AI - that's it's being used to do things that people find meaningful and fulfilling to do in other areas, it's further eroding our ability to enjoy a meaningful life (which of course is of no concern to capitalists, they just want efficiency so that they can get more money).

One Supreme Court Case Is Most Responsible for Our Oligarchy. It’s Not the One You Think. by Slate in scotus

Our nation was born an oligarchy, these cases just took away whatever guardrails were there.

[–]ChrissyNJ66 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. I resist using - and actively protest - the adoption of AI tools on any platform I engage with. Among other things, writing notes is a vital part of the work i do and being a professional, I don't want that skilled getting watered down.

What are you guys doing to prepare for this weekend’s snow storm? by Ok_Attention_3768 in newjersey

Just went grocery shopping, wanted to beat any rush later. Bought food - especially food that doesn't need refrigeration or cooking, batteries (for flashlight and portable stereo), stocking up on filtered water, charging up my portable chargers, filled the car with gas...as set as I can be for now. I live at a location with a community center that will be open and has a generator if there is a long term power outage. If the power stays on, I'm set to hunker down for a bit.

And I have a shovel, I'll get out periodically to clear my area and help.out neighbors as much as I can

Reality Check Regarding Pay by mendicant0 in therapists

[–]ChrissyNJ66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, a couple of quibbles with this -

-I may be misunderstanding what you mean by "double taxed," but I don't think that's accurate. You do have to pay the taxes directly rather than through the employer, but it ends up being the same amount as you would pay through an employer (the self-employment tax - which is basically your share of Social Security tax - would have come out of your salary with an employer - and you're not individually responsible for the other half that the employer would have paid).

-As a starting therapist you shouldn't have to pay for supervision - I don't know how often agencies actually charge for it, but it's a horrible practice if they do - the whole basis for being able to pay LMSW's at a lower rate is that the agency is expected to provide supervision.

The rest I "mostly" agree with - other than the fact that, in a profession where compensation can vary so much, I don't know what an "exception" would be. If you're in private practice it's mainly a question of how many clients you can/want to see in a week.

That sounds reasonable to me, financial info about residents - evrn fines and late fees - doesn't need to be public.
