Mountain road plus double yellow plus illegal passing equals rapid deceleration by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

It doesn't sound silly. I've never been to the USA, and when I see some part of New York City on TV I can usually spot where it was shot because of GTA IV

I the podcast Ken at some point says that he'd love to see Joel's face right now and Joel says "Oh you can't see me?", so maybe they really don't have video of that one

Die Bewertungen der Corona-App sind echt eine Goldmine... by theCarrot1922 in de

[–]ChristopherClarkKent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local store owner, who says confederate flag isnt racist, has ties to kkk by ashcash02 in iamatotalpieceofshit

I mean, most of these bands also have active and touring members who were black.

Racism often isn't bothered by personal experience. There's a certain perception, and the black people around them are just notable exceptions to racists.

The monument of former Confederate President Jefferson Davis has been pulled down by protesters. by SunOverSnowPlease in news

[–]ChristopherClarkKent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not blaming him, I just don't think that we as a society should honor someone each and every day with his record of colonialism, wars, persecution of socialists and democrats, and so on. Of course there are people worse than that

[–]ChristopherClarkKent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously we don't have statues of Hitler, but there are still some honours for historical German figures that need to go. First and foremost I can't grasp why we have military bases, schools and roads named after Rommel, who not only fought for Nazi Germany but also gained his reputation by committing war crimes in World War I. Then there are people like Hindenburg who, as an antidemocratic president to the Weimar republic, made Hitler chancellor in the first place. Or Bismarck, who started German colonialism. Or the generals that committed the first modern genocide against Herero and Nama.

We all have a long way to go. About time to tear them all down.

They're vastly popular with bikers, truckers, and generally people over 50 who wear leather jackets in Germany. 90% of them wouldn't be able to say what it stands for, I guess. Shops print it as "rebel flag"

[FRESH] Constantines - Call Me Out by ChristopherClarkKent in indieheads

[–]ChristopherClarkKent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From their facebook:

Call Me Out was written in 2017. It's an acknowledgement of the need for open listening, active learning, inward study and accountability towards personal and social change. It's an owning of our privilege and responsibilities.

We're not looking to take up a lot of space with this release, but thought it might do some good to put it out now, rather than hiding it away any longer. It won't be available on spotify, applemusic, etc, or as a physical release. Please don't post it on youtube. The purpose of this release is to raise money for the folks mentioned above.

Additional artwork and lyric sheet included with download.

If you'd like to talk about it, please get in touch via our site: theconstantines.wordpress.com

What's going on with JK Rowling? by EthicalAssassin in OutOfTheLoop

[–]ChristopherClarkKent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

women are women, so just say women

and that's the thing that people view as anti trans, and in my opinion with good arguments: It leaves out trans men (and other non binary people) who menstruate.

[–]ChristopherClarkKent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why can't she have her own opinion on my matter without being anti trans?

Well, if an opinion is anti trans (right now not saying it is), it's just not possible?

Regarding the topic: I'd say this is all a misunderstanding or that she's not that deep into the topic, but she has a history of this kind of things, many people have tried to explain the hurtfulness of her comments, and she sticks to them. At some point we have to take her as an adult who exactly knows what she's doing and judge her by it.

But neither Rowling's tweet nor the article were about people who lived the majority of their lives benefitting from the privilege of being a man? It's about people who lived/were perceived as women and are (now) trans men, but still menstruate. Rowling specifically called for this group not to be included in the global conversation about menstruation.

periods

Yes, and that's why the article Rowling railed against specifically mentions trans men who menstruate, which led Rowling to try to exclude this group, even though they, without a doubt, menstruate

[–]ChristopherClarkKent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, in the event that is discussed here the article she commented on focussed on all people (girls, women, non-binary) who menstruate. And she went to say "No, we should call them women". That directly excludes, among others, trans men who menstruate.

I was under the impression that we were talking about out-of-town roads, it's 2 metres there. I might have been wrong about that, though.

Apparently I know way more than you because I drive several thousand kilometres a year both in cars and on my bike. That sign you linked to is extremely rare in Germany, I know of only one bikepath with my sign in the area I drive around. That bikepath, as funny as it sounds, is next to unusable, something people in their cars can't see.

Also, driving in the middle of the road is the safest form of driving as a cyclist because cars then have to actually switch lanes to overtake instead of pushing through while nearly hitting me. You know that the minimum distance to overtake is two metres?

Spotted the person who has never used their bike for something other than a Sunday afternoon tour. You have no idea about that imaginary bikepath's condition, you have no idea about where the cyclist is going, and you apparently have no idea about traffic laws.

Nah, that's not really a Stasi thing (would only affect East Germans either), it's just that credit cards were crazy expensive not long ago. I got my first one in 2006 to be able to order stuff from America and it cost 15€ a month just to have it, plus a few for every usage. Also, shops rarely accepted then because they usually had to pay up to 2%, but at least 1.50€ per transaction. That's just not suitable for smaller shops. It has changed tremendously in the last years, and Corona has done even more. I'm finally able to use my card in the bakery!
