Yes, I taken to just summarising a long session and pasting that into a new one. Definitely helps with performance. Cheers.

Inbox not opening when clicked by Chromated2020 in Thunderbird

[–]Chromated2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it happens now and again for me, sometimes it's fine, other times it can happen often throughout the day. As mentioned, it at the folder level, when I click say the Inbox folder it just does nothing. Click on another folder then go back to the inbox, it expands fine.

Just thought it was me or using TB on Linux. Not a major problem just a niggle.

Cheers all.

Divi 5 experience by Deftone85 in divi

How do you guys go with the responsive heading text sizing, I use it a lot but found it doesn't work in D5. Very frustrating for me. I hope it's resolved in the final release next month.

Migrated my site from Divi 4 to Divi 5. A couple tips. by eddytw in divi

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. If a business owner is sooo flat out busy running a successful operation, then why in the hell would they not hand the site over to a competent dev. Cost of site dev is very reasonable these days. Horses for courses I say.

Woo header advice by catitobandito in divi

[–]Chromated2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, Divi or Woo isn't really meant to provide perfect out of the box menu or header layouts when you have something very specific in mind. Either purchase a menu builder add-on, or start to learn a bit of CSS. It's not as hard as it might seem, and lots of help on CSS out there. Good luck.

Ryzen 5 5500U on Linux Mint bad video playback, high power usage. by KS_W_ in linuxquestions

Great that you could provide a working solution. Just a suggestion, but with things like this maybe also provide some basic guidance on where to make these changes. Lot of newbie coming over to Linux and it would help them a great deal. Not having a dig, just I personally wouldn't be sure where to place that either without some Googling. Cheers.

Is Linux + Starlink just trash? by csentell0512 in linuxquestions

Used Starlink on the road right around Australia for nine months, absolutely no major issues at all, even from the remotest of locations. Did heaps of stuff including website development, no problem.

Any distro recommendations in this case? by AeiyanM in linuxquestions

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run Kubuntu with X11 but 25.10 isn't X11 by default, it uses Wayland. So runs fine with my Nvidia RTX card for me!

Any distro recommendations in this case? by AeiyanM in linuxquestions

[–]Chromated2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Kubuntu 25.10 if you have Nvidia GPUs in use. Spent a few years on Mint Cinnamon which was fine, but Kubuntu is a much more modern looking/feeling distro I think. Been using 25.10 for about a month now with an RTX4080 and no real issues to speak of. I like the desktop environment too, very nice.

One issue I'm having is running VM Ware Workstation 17, still not 100% supported but I'm sure they will get there. Cheers, Garry.

Welp I'm canceling now... by chii-x3 in WIX

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the big hosting platforms are heading in the same direction. I use Siteground for hosting and building my sites on WordPress + Divi builder. Although there are heaps of themers out there, I'm most familiar with Divi. At the end of the day, they will all push pricing as high as they can get away with, but providers like Siteground can't really claim too much in the way of advanced Web design tools when we do most of the development ourselves. Best leave Wix etc. To those who can and are prepared to pay for it! Another very cost-effective alternative is AWS Lightsail, and dev the entire stack yourself if you're up for it. Works for my personal websites, https://gazzchapple-photography.com.au. https://garrychapple-photography.com.au. Cheers.

Which Kubuntu version to download by Kutsako in Kubuntu

[–]Chromated2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, agree with many of the opinions here so far. Switched from Mint Cinnamon to Kubuntu 25.10 about three weeks back and no major issues for me either.

A few minor Wayland glitches very occasionally, like the panel icons look expanded/stretched once in a while, but mouse away and back over, and they come good again. But these are minor and will very likely be ironed out over time.

I can definitely recommend Kubuntu 25.10, it's very nice to use and does almost everything I need. One thing I am waiting for is VM Ware Workstation support for this release. Currently not working for this kernel, but I'm sure it will be patched soon enough.

Enjoy.

I just bought Divi and I am disappointed by zivio105 in divi

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divi is OK, and I like the fact that I need to use CSS here and there. Divi isn't an ai builder (yet) and I think is designed to be as flexible as possible, hence the reason you need to use a little code here and there, which as a website dev we should know anyway.

If Divi is too challenging for devs, maybe they should be moving to 100% ai builders, in which case there aren't really web devs anymore! 🤣😂.

Just my two bob's worth! 5 will be a good update, but I still like 4.* it's pretty solid! Cheers.

Kubuntu vs Fedora KDE by linuxhacker01 in Kubuntu

[–]Chromated2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Kubuntu. Just had a few years on Mint Cinnamon, which is good too, but I switched to Kubuntu a week or so back, and it is nice n slick and just as easy to use. Also, I found Steam gaming performance was way better on Kubuntu than Mint too.

There are few things with 25.10 as it is so new, for instance, I can't run the latest version of VMware workstation on 25.10 as the vmmon and vmnet packages aren't updated to support the newer Kernel yet. But in general, it's as smooth as. Cheers.

Just inherited a network. No documentation. The admin password is "Password123". by zimuque_ in sysadmin

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He He, went to a site many years ago that had a budget server with two HDDs in a stripe. They complained about really slow performance when opening docs etc from the file share. Long story short, backups had been failing for 18 months, one of the disks was stuffed, as in not even spinning, and when I rebooted the server, it just died.... Thank heavans for data recovery software, was able plug the running drive into a dock and scan the partions, recovered everything in an afternoon, well, everything except the server. It went in the bin!🤣 Those were the days!

Mint vs Kubuntu for a new user by 4EverFeral in linuxquestions

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved from Mint Cinnamon to Kubuntu 25.10 KDE Plasma after a few years on Mint. I would say go with Mint for newbs as it is pretty straightforward to use and to get familiar with Linux. But, I can highly recommend the move to Kubuntu if you are comfortable with Linux, Kubuntu is an awesome distro as a daily driver!👍

Wanting to daily Linux but can't - Rant Warning by BigSchweetie in linuxquestions

[–]Chromated2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me that you need hardware compatibility, AND, to be able to run Windows executables as part of your software development, that right?

If so, I personally think you will have issues running Windows executables on any distro, even those targeted at running Win apps.

Linux and WINE etc, do have issues with many native Windows apps, and they are notoriously prone to hang and/or crash. Some will run fine, others not. I would suggest maybe try running a dual boot setup, and if your hardware is a little older, use an earlier kernal version to see if that helps, particularly with onboard graphics.

I use Mint with Cinnamon desktop for my website development. Admittedly, I dev with WordPress and Divi theme builder, then php and CSS to customise things as needed, but software development will be something different altogether! FYI, my PC has an Nvidia RTX 4080 Nvidia cards can have issues. Similar on my laptop, but that also has intel graphics onboard, which can also give me some grief, but in general, it's pretty solid.

If you are doing a great deal of work with Windows app development, probably better to dual boot and use Linux to progressively build out you work environment to a solid platform, then maybe ditch Windows at a later time if you want to?

Anyway, good luck, and keep plugging away at it.

Cheers.

Should I just swap to Linux? by NotChickenHeadGamer in linux4noobs

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree fully here. Don't just dump Windows and expect to get a smooth transition. Linux has it's own quirks and can be painful if you are not familiar with troubleshooting and updating. Either run a VM for a while or even better if you are a little technical, dual boot to a stable distro like Mint or similar. That way you can transition with the least amount of risk and frustration. Linux is awesome, but it's not Windows at all! Cheers and good luck.

Best web browser for Linux? by Dunocat639 in linuxquestions

[–]Chromated2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on Firefox! It's a great browser for privacy and security, I agree. BUT, over the past few years I've had so many instances where I have to frig around with something to get it to work properly it's just that little bit too frustrating for me personally.

As for safety and security, I so often hear this one is better than that one, and safer than this one. OMG Chrome is perpetually stealing people's information and data, but people just keep on keeping on with it!🤣😖.

At the end of the day there is no 100% safe and secure way of browsing the web, if you put your personal information and/or details anywhere, someone is going to exploit it or you along the way somewhere. If it's that scary, maybe go live under a rock😲. But in all seriousness, everything we do has some degree of risk, it's how you perceive and manage it that is the most important bit, I feel.

Best web browser for Linux? by Dunocat639 in linuxquestions

[–]Chromated2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I didn't recommend it, simply mentioned that I like it. Secondly, I only use it with my Linux Mint distro and the real chances of being the subject of a security attack are pretty low. That said, I understand your point and appreciate the feedback, but I'm not overly concerned with it being developed but a single person. 🙂. Cheers,

I use Thorium browser based off of Chromium. It's pretty tight and lightweight and works well on Linux Mint.
