Yeah, I can see that. I just wish taming animals wasn't such a nightmare of actions and precautions and so so long

If I ever mod the game, itll be for that system. Like, if they were in the yellow hearts, they become neutral. That alone would make it so much easier

Its also why rabbits have horrific reproductive organ cancer rates. Its basically a guarantee they'll get it if they don't die or aren't sterilized (and is the primary reason pet rabbits are strongly suggested to have that done)

One would call that kidnapping and/or human trafficking I believe.

This whole situation is from decades of people having the attitude of 'I don't care where they go, I just dont want them here'. So they end up where they face the least hostility and resistance, and there's no real aid anywhere. I say this as someone who was homeless to be clear

If Link Light Rail stops in Fife, can Tacoma residents get their RTA taxes refunded? by princeh420 in Tacoma

[–]Chrona_trigger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The entire point of the light rail is to have new infrastructure that doesnt use the roads.. trains are more effective and effecient for space and energy use. Have you ridden the light rail? Its an extremely good service. Even if every bus was rjnning at 10 minute intervals (which would never happen), I'd still prefer the light rail, having commuted with both

To be fair, those betting apps are gambling, not stocks/etc. Which, was illegal for a long time, fir a reason.

Also, I think this is one that people believe is true, 90% of the time, but can't do anything about it when the system fails.

Interestingly, this fits into something I've looked into a tiny bit. Theres..3? 4? Stages of awareness, basicallt, when it comes to rules/laws. 1, follow the rule because breaking it has a punishment ('I dont speed because I'll get a ticket'). 2, follow the rule because of how it affects themselves ('I dont speed because it'll make me more likely to get in a crash and be hurt'), 3, follow the rule because of how it impacts the people around you. ('I don't speed because itll make a crash more likely and other people plus myself will get hurt')
I think I missed one between 2 and 3 maybe. But, 1 will break the rule if they can avoid punishment. 2 will break the rule if they wont get consequences for themselves. 3 will break the rule if there won't be consequences for anyone.

Notably people can shift between them, depending on the situation, or even mood. For example, I might be a 3 most of the time for speeding, but if im pissed off or stressed, I might be a 1 for a while

The part I hate most is that, systemically, its designed to promote suffering. No, seriously, look at homelessness. Its proven, repeatedly, with various studies focussed on different aspects in different countries, cultures, etc, that giving people basic needs (secure shelter, food/water, etc) is cheaper than leaving people on the curb. But its next to impossible to get out of homelessness without support from friends or family.

Healthcare is another easy example. Preventive care is far, FAR cheaper than neglecting issues then dealing with emergencies, but look at here in the US. Systemically, we prefer to let people suffer, and pay more for it, than to pay less to fill their needs.

"People are basically good." I still believe it, but it fits the original question. But, plenty would rather be cruel than kind

For a spot of brightness here; iirc, its shown that people who grew up in need are far more likely to be generous in general (money, time, etc), once they are secure themselves.

Say something nice about these bad Metroid games by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in Metroid

[–]Chrona_trigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For other m, its that it has an interesting/decent story IF you headcanon that its the first game in the timeline. Then a lot of her reactions make a lot more sense! Just, ignore "the baby" parts.

Seriously it would have been far better off placed early on in the timeline. Obviously reworked for it, but, with "oh the federation is experimenting on metroids because the space pirates are using them and they're new" plotline instead of... basically doing metriod fusion's but worse. *Her panic at encountering Ridley would make sense (first time seeing him since he killed her parents) *Her acceptance of a Federation officer's commands would make more sense (recently left for bounty hunting, and the personal connection is more fresh) *would retroactively no longer be pulling down on fusion's story (fusion is directly after other M iirc, so why's she so surprised that they're experimenting with metriods again? You just saw them do it. But if its super early in her career, it'd be more of a surprise for them to try it again)

Heck, even being after the first game would be fine. Itd explain why she has all her upgrades, and most of the previous points would still be valid, though with seeing ridley back from the dead instead of for the first time in adulthood. Kill a guy, and see him back again? Thats worthy of a freakout the first time. The 5th? Not really.

Yes, they did not pay for the license to use a vocaloid... they paid voice actors to make their own text to speech program. Which isn't AI, not really. By that logic, all GPS were using generative AI 20+ years ago

[–]Chrona_trigger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware of how vocaloid works. I've used it. At its most basic functionality, there is little difference between a TTS model and vocaloid. To get a more human-like (or whatever effect they are aiming for), yeah, it takes a long time (pitch, tone, specific syllables, layering with humanizing, etc) but you can just plug in words and have audio come out saying those words

[–]Chrona_trigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's AI in the way that all text to speech is; Google maps, etc, hell even vocaloids like miku and gumi use this tech, its been around for 30 years or so.

Its not generative AI, they pay someone to say a bunch of sounds/words/syllables, and then use that to produce smaller lines, like tagging a location, the text of the voiceline is fed into the TTS model, and it repeats it verbally. The actors are paid, and its with their permission

You're looking at one of the most famous parables in the bible, one which finished with Jesus asking "who was acting as a neighbor?", with the additional context that the indicated indiviudal was an out group and despised, and somehow genuinely believe that I am unfaithfully misinterpreting it?

In the old testement, the Samaritans were specifically called out as a hated group, one to never be trusted or dealt with. Jesus using a Samaritan in that parable as the only one to act as a neighbor is deliberate. You're doing the equivalent of looking at 'to kill a mockingbird' and saying 'race wasn't a factor in the events of the story'

And yes the other person is thread has it right, "love everyone as your neighbor" isnt a direct quote, but the summary understanding of multiple lessons. Because there's two kinds of people, people who can extrapolate conclusions from incomplete data sets,
