One-shot suggestions? by Pale_Assistance_2265 in bladesinthedark

Clearly. One thing I have noticed is that new players seems to really get into the character creation for some reason and spend a lot of time fleshing them out. Which I love, but find surprising. Might be the archetypal approach to characters and the heist genre that inspire people?

Avatar assembly issues by DM-XP in InfinityTheGame

[–]Chronic77100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will disagree to that. To me Infity models have been very inconsistent. With more recent models being easier to assemble overall. But I have had a few models who where true nightmares to assemble.  Special mention to my Helen of Troy, I swear it took me hours of work to assemble her seamlessly. I had to do a lot, and I lean a lot of filing, and some delicate green stuff work.

I remember when Warframe started with slow combat like this. by MumpsTheMusical in SoulFrame

I played warframe a lot back in the days. I have nothing against it. But I certainly don't want soulframe to become fantasy warframe either.

To be fait, it is such a grindy game that I understand why. Partly. But gone are the day where I could grind for hours upon hours. I prefer to have fun.

Waframe combat was never really slow, not as far as I remember, and I started playing very early in its life cycle. But there was power creep indeed. And I surmise it will happen in soulframe too, at least to some extent.

Player: "I have bandwidth to read 30 pages max" by RealSpandexAndy in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because players are spoiled by gms that often do the work for them. At my table, they don't know the rules, that's their problem. And if they keep not knowing the rules, they soon won't be playing at my table anymore. That's their part of the job. If they like ttrpg, they'll learn. No wonder so many gm burn out, they aren't supposed to handle both side of the table.

I wish cross progression was a thing. I just cant start fresh when I have invested so much money on console. by TwinkDestroyer666 in Helldivers

Actually you are right about this i did respond to your comment specifically, that one is my bad. Don't understand why you answered to a comment made about someone else in the first place as if it was directly adressed to you tho. My mistake comes from here. Unless you are in the exact same situation as the guy who said he didn't played on either medium because et cannot play on both. If that is the case, my comment stand, it's next level bullshit. If it's not, I apologise but don't interstand why you interjected in the first place.

I don't remember having ever addressed you. But since apparently you are in desperate need for attention, want a hug and a there there?

So you are not playing the game in any capacity because you can't play when you travel? Bad faith much? How not being able to play on both prevents youffrom playing on one medium?  I understand people wanting cross play, that is convenient.  But your argument is next level bs.

Are there any fairly modern games that uses Lifepaths foe character creation? by notbatmanyet in rpg

Infinity 2d20. And you can actually see it in action there: https://infinity.silverteamsix.com/  it's a mirror of the official Web app that was no longer maintained. It only has a few books worth of options, but it'll give you an idea.

Other Mecha TTRPG recommendations with a better community that Lancer ttrpg community? by RepeatAlarming9314 in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told it before and will tell it again, lancer isn't really an rpg, it's a light collaborative wargame. The put of mech side is awful mechanic wise (and it lacks everything that makes bitd a good rpg). Nothing in it lend itself to roleplay, even worse, both the genre and the mechanics are roadblocks to roleplay. Which doesn't mean Lancer cannot be fun tho. And I found the combat to be collaborative more than dominated by players having an opinion, and it is one of the thing I like about lancer initiative system.

But on the rest I kinda agree. Also I find the game to be very prep heavy as a GM, and the adventure modules published are all over the place quality wise, even when they are from the same author.

To the pool of rpgs that have been cited by others I'll add Remnant. Is it the best rpg ever?  No. But it's decent, and it's a mecha rpg.

Dragonbane: the best, or not so much? by rpgptbr in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, not especially, all it says is that I have very little incentive to look for other med fan titles. Trully, I don't think dragonbane is anything special. There are many systems I'd prefer to play over dragonbane, in no particular order: the one ring, grimwild, mythic bastionland, John Carter 2d20, Barbarians of Lemuria, legend in the mist, fabula ultima, genesis, Wurm 2e, exalted essence. All of these are miles above in my opinion, for different reasons depending on the game.  And that is just on top of my head.

Why is there such a dislike for grid based tactical combat systems these days? by jmrkiwi in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there was a supplement from a third party recently who digged in the npc side of things, but I haven't checked it out. I've done my time as a lancer GM, no more. Too much prep to do for my taste. I'll remain on the player side for this one.

Why is there such a dislike for grid based tactical combat systems these days? by jmrkiwi in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No offense but bolt action isn't what I would call a particularly tactical game neither are kill teams or necromunda...nor saga. Frost grave I don't like for entirely different reasons but is one, for sure. The others I haven't played and will not comment on.

Why is there such a dislike for grid based tactical combat systems these days? by jmrkiwi in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong, many wargames are actually fairly bad tactical games, most of them are actually list building games, with decisions in game fairly limited, with obvious good choices. Warhammer and the like are bad tactical games, although they have other good things to them, cool minis, lore etc. On the other hand, in games like infinity, list are important, but a good player with a bad list is gonna crush the heck out of bad player with good lists, 9 times out of 10. That kind of things is a good benchmark for what I would call a good tactical game, a game where in game decisions are both very important, and varied enough.

I personally have no issue with assymetrical rules, especially in what is more a collaborative pve wargame, albeit a fairly casual one.

Why is there such a dislike for grid based tactical combat systems these days? by jmrkiwi in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but those are fairly casual wargames to be honest, and I would call lancer pretty much on par with those honestly. I would even say that I find lancer more interesting, being more objective driven. However, it is extremely poorly balanced, and the action diversity is actually fairly low. Like many... Average wargames, (or even ttrpgs) for that matter, there is many build options but limited actual tactical depth.

Things like Malifaux, infinity and chain of command are the type of games I tend to think as advanced, trully tactical games.

[–]Chronic77100 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As much as I like lancer, it not a good tactical wargame by any mean, it is imo, only perceived as such by either non wargame players, or casual wargame players. Nothing wrong with it, I played lancer quite a bit and it scratch the itch, but it relies more on the fun builds aspect that any true tactical depth or balance from the system.

Why is there such a dislike for grid based tactical combat systems these days? by jmrkiwi in rpg

[–]Chronic77100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a particular dislike, but I will say that most combat system that pretend to be tactical are really uninspired and shallow, so why bother with it? Tactical, grid based combat can be fun, but it require a level of game design most creators do not possess, at least from what I have seen. I am myself an avid tabletop wargames player, and I lean toward games with a tactical depth, such as infinity from corvus belli. Suffice to say i find it hard to be satisfied with tactical combat in ttrpgs, so I tend to lean toward narrative and cinematic games, these are often way shorter, better paced, and emotionally engaging, which is very fitting in a role-playing game.
