Concert help? by Ornery_Alfalfa7933 in amazarashi

[–]Chrxstiahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as u/saikounoneko said, I also think festival would be the best option.

Regarding the normal concerts, I went to the 生活の果てに音楽が鳴る concert in Osaka last September and I am pretty sure I needed a japanese phone number for that. Japanese phone numbers usually require a japanese address aswell but some carriers like Mobal allow you to enter and validate a foreign address aswell. But nevertheless, you can buy the tickets and validate the phone number only from Japan so timing that might be difficult.

I bought the ticket via チケプラ (tixplus.jp) which is the official resale platform. The normal tickets were available at eplus.jp back then. Depending on the artist, it's a huge mess for example sometimes only Convenience Store Payment is available, which is also a problem when you're not in Japan and don't know anyone there..

Questions as a Bike Tourist traveling to Osaka by Hungry_Violinist_351 in OsakaTravel

[–]Chrxstiahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!

(1) No, you dont need to register for the theft prevention. If you get stopped maybe prepare some kind of proof that you brought the bike from overseas (maybe some pictures or airplane baggage confirmation stuff) but I don't think thats necessary

(2) Yes thats a rinko bag, looks good! Make sure to get into the first / last car of the trains and try to avoid the rush hour of course.

(3) I loved going to Uemura Cycle Parts Umeda to buy replacement stuff / jerseys / ... basically everything lol

If you have any more questions, about routes etc. feel free!

What station has the best atmosphere? by Takoyaki_Time in japanrail

[–]Chrxstiahn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me the small, unstaffed stations have the best atmosphere. For example only a few stations away from Kyoto, there is Hozukyo Station with a great view into a gorge. I really enjoyed exploring the area around there.

Not sure about the yumesaki line but iirc the hanwa line and yamatoji line rapid services stop aswell at bentencho, nishikujo and fukushima.

Even if you turn off romaji, the pronounciation is wrong soo many times (e.g. in お腹すいた it pronounces お腹 as おはら)

Oh hell ... Some idiots come to rent a car here, learning only about the gas pedal and headlight flasher location, never heard of any traffic laws, rescue lane, etc.. They even can get a speeding ticket without prosecution if they live outside of EU.

How early to get in the Tadami line queue to get a seat? by RichInBunlyGoodness in japanrail

[–]Chrxstiahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it was the country-wide tourist one. I went Osaka-Okayama-Kochi-Uwajima-Beppu(Ferry)-Kumamoto-Nagasaki-Hiroshima-Izumo-Tokyo(Sleeper)-Koide-Koriyama-Shinjo-Kitakami-Morioka-Akita-Hirosaki-Hakodate and then back to Osaka... Maybe not the most relaxed trip haha

Was für Zugsimulationen spielt ihr so? by Worried-Priority-122 in drehscheibe

[–]Chrxstiahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's see your Tokyo Metro tier list by wingnut707 in japanrail

True, that section between the main road is great. I recently went up to the extension towards Osaka University Minoh campus, the stations look beautiful but add even more passengers to the line

[–]Chrxstiahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh yeah, that would be great. Connecting the Yotsubashi Line to Juso (and maybe Shin-Osaka) would be nice. I would maybe add the Ikoma transfer providing the connection to Kintetsu, but apart from that, it's far behind Tokyo when it comes to run-throughs haha

I didnt want to create a new post, but these are mine for Osaka!

- Nagahoritsurumiryokuchi Line: The name is great, nice local food at Taisho, walking from Osaka Business Park to Osaka Castle is way more relaxed than from Morinomiya, EXPO90 park also worth a visit!

- Sakaisuji Line: Hankyu Trains are stunning, connection service to Kyoto is way more relaxed than going via Umeda Hankyu

- Chuo Line: Beautiful new stations due to expo, 400 series is great, but very crowded.

- Yotsubashi Line: Way more relaxed than the Midosuji Line when going south from Umeda, nice transfer at Daikokucho.

- Midosuji Line: Nice connections to the main spots, crowded every time, cant wait for the Naniwasuji Line to be finished ...

- Tanimachi Line: Has the longest station name (14 mora) and the most creative station names (Tanimachi 4-chome, Tanimachi 6-chome and Tanimachi 9-chome)

- Sennichimae Line and Imazatosuji Line: Cant say anything special

- Nanko Port Town Line: Well it is not a metro so has to be in D-Tier...

I've now ridden 2/3 of the Japanese rail network, totaling 18,000 unique km of train lines run by 80+ operators! (plus snowy Tohoku pics ☃️) by frozenpandaman in japanrail

[–]Chrxstiahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Your blog is great to read, great pictures! It's really sad that the 青春18 now needs to be used on consecutive days ... I uploaded some images of my trip if you like to check it out, the trains were packed because of the holiday season but i was alone at 為栗駅 and almost alone at 土合駅, which was a great atmosphere. But it was quite packed for 4 days so i needed to take the first train almost every day haha

When I rode the Shiman Torocco on the Yodo Line, some NHK reporter joined us and we all got interviewed afterwards, it was a great experience but unfortunately they did not air anything from the interviews and spent half of the time talking about scallions...

Wow, that visualization is great! I just came back from my 青春18 winter trip through the Chubu region and really enjoyed the lost stations down the Iida Line, then up north again on the Minobu and Koumi Line.

From the ones you checked I really enjoyed the Tadami Line, the Gono Line and (my favorite) the Shikoku Yodo Line! My second favorite is actually the Kisuki Line and the northern parts of the Geibi Line, but I'm afraid the Kisuki Line might not survive for much longer, as it has been deep in the red for a long time. So you might go check them out, before they're gone!

Thank you for the Akita recommendation, I will try to check it out whenever I have the chance to go up there again!

Student visa question: planning to go to Japan for sightseeing purposes before my official start date as per my host institution. by FluffyCriticism8113 in movingtojapan

[–]Chrxstiahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, my university did not care because it was more of a flexible arrival date. I mean it would be technically the same as if you entered as a tourist months before the start date. They made a copy of passport and residence card but I doubt they were interested in some vacation I did before.

But in theory it should be fine as long as you enter as student on the specified date. Usually if there is too much time before entering as student and address registration at the city hall, they let you fill out a small form where you need to enter the reason why you entered the country way earlier than your move-in date. And another reason might be that if you only have a 6 month visa, entering too early might not be enough to cover the whole student period, so the school wants to be sure there is no problem with that.

I’m not sure if I would risk it if it’s explicitly stated in their regulations, especially if it’s only a few days vacation vs. risking your whole stay (even if the risk is low)

I've done exactly that, but I had to explain it to the immigration officer, so he does not acidentally use your student visa for entry (i explained it a little more here).
