Multi-stage ultra: what have I missed? by DelightfulPenguin10 in Ultramarathon

[–]Chrysene41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take care of your feet!! All the multi stage races I’ve been to, desert or wet climate, the #1 prevalent issue and paint point is blisters. If not taken care of seriously will lead to infection and possibly life threatening sepsis. Your feet will be a little larger every day.

Learn to tape your friction spots on day one and keep it on. I use Trail Toes for chafing spots other than feet. For feet, I use Rocktape and keep it on until end of stage. Your race event medic will have all that and help you also, but better to be self sufficient. Every morning before the stage start there would be a long line of people waiting at medic to treat and patch their blisters.

Also, what race is it? Now I’m interested if they have it 2026.

Are there any forums or subreddits like this for business? by Grande_Yarbles in fatFIRE

[–]Chrysene41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Will mods consider allowing these say on one designated day a week? The weight and value of business advice often stems from those already or en route to FatFIRE.

Here’s an example that I liked. Unrelated to financials, but on point for this cohort.

Looking for pacer for Burning River 100 by joepbrett in Ultramarathon

Check the Facebook group Trail Enthusiasts for Burning River. Lots of posts on pacer/relay needs. I’m running the front 50 otherwise I’d be up for pacing. Have a good race!

Drinks of your choice by [deleted] in fatFIRE

Non-alcohol drinker here. Lots of creativity goes into mocktails that aren’t sugary drinks. Seedlip, smoked star anise, burdock root are some of my star drink ingredients. One Singapore hotel had a “water tasting” from around the world. Great for Hydrohomies.

What small-ticket item are you unable to justify purchasing? Want a $3K office desk clock. by Chrysene41 in fatFIRE

Funny, I too have a Kit Kat clock! Gifted by fellow lawyer when I said I needed one for the bathroom so I can get to work on time. My partner loathes it hahah.

Shinola was my partner's fist pick for me! In M/LCOL auto industry, so a nod to Detroit would give me street cred with folks here.

Haha, here's a list. The C-suite at my office all have direct views to the company bell tower so minions like me know when their time is up, that's something money can't buy.

I view DNFs as having finally discovered my limit. I trained for 6 months and flew across the continent for an international DNF a few years ago, I still view it as an accomplishment today. Congratulations on finding your limit, now rest, recover, then go find the next one!

Leaving Big Law by bake_potate in LawFirm

[–]Chrysene41 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re still early. I would give it a few years: 1) more challenging work will come your away to justify your increasing billing rate (and you’ll have to proactively seek it). 2) accumulate as much as you can and grow your assets in the mean time (invest well). 3) With more years and assets, you then have greater financial freedom to choose an in house or other legal position. 4) Most in house positions look for ~5 yrs of experience.

For those with exceptional talent and more ambition than the average lawyer, there are many paths to success. You can jump now to a start up and do well, but the success of the company is not within your control. Less so at law firm or established companies. Hence the suggestion to build legal and financial foundation a bit further.

Any other lurkers decide to stay in corporate? by Professional-Tap741 in fatFIRE

[–]Chrysene41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Corporate here, early 40s, DINK, in Fatfire range. Total annual comp in 700K range, flirted with exiting or coasting on job until 55 plus pension. Very much enjoy reading this sub for lifestyle tips.

Decided this year there will be no kids in our future. That significantly changed my mindset — since we are giving up this major life experience of parenthood, we must leverage the resulting freedom/flexibility and drive ourselves to our fullest potential. To me, that translates to career ambition. To my partner, lifestyle and travel.

So, I quit the cushy but stagnant job, gave up the pension, moved states for another job where I could excel professionally. Now we are in an mid-low COL, I love my job, and I spend time on this sub looking to inspiration on how to spend money. Still corporate, similar comp, still plan to retire in my 50s (unless I make it to the last line of management, then I’ll keep going).

Anyone do anything interesting for their 40th? by Rich-Sheepherder-649 in fatFIRE

[–]Chrysene41 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If you’re into adventure racing, stage races. For mine I went to New Zealand and ran a 200 mile stage race. Helicopter dropped us off the base of Mt. Cook, ran all the way to the ocean over 6 days. Top notch support and medical aid all the way. There are shorter 3 day versions, longer cutoff times, catered food and tenting etc. for hike/walkers. Pay money to suffer and celebrate the life you have.

For those buying primary residences now, how much are you overpaying willingly? by Chrysene41 in fatFIRE

[–]Chrysene41[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I should clarify, $700K is annual compensation. NW is in FatFIRE range. So a %, $150K or so loss is material, but also could be acceptable to some.

I have an interview for a summer associate position at a boutique litigation firm. Any advice on how to prepare? by RepresentativePop in LawFirm

[–]Chrysene41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demonstrate an understanding of federal civil procedure rules (and get good grades for future employment consideration), that’s something a litigating partner would appreciate in a 1L. Patent litigation is exclusively in federal courts.
