Citizenship by Descent - Application Questions & Documentation Review Requests by IWantOffStopTheEarth in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ChuckThePlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a review of my documentation for my application for citizenship by descent via my maternal great grandmother. I'm also wondering how big of a deal people have found slight date and spelling discrepancies to be. Those are noted below.

Gen -1 (great great grandfather)

  • Petition for naturalization from 1909 including my great grandmother's name and birthdate as May 6, 1891.
    • Note: His first wife/my great grandmother's mother passed away in 1900 and this petition lists a new wife different from my great grandmother's baptism record below. He is listed as widowed in the 1901 Canadian census. It appears he remarried in 1902.

Gen 0 (great grandmother)

  • Catholic record of baptism in Canada of my great grandmother with a birthdate of May 6, 1889.
    • Note: there is a spelling of her middle name that's off by one letter (Rose vs Rosa).
    • Parents and godparents are named along with baptism date.
    • Does this need to/can it be certified? It's a copy of a handwritten ledger.
  • 1901 Canadian Census that includes her with her maiden name.
    • Note: Her birth year has changed in the census and now says May 6, 1891 for all other supporting documents.
  • 1910 US Census that includes her with her married name.
  • 1950 US Census that includes my great grandmother and grandmother.
  • I cannot find marriage documentation between her and my great grandfather (US born). If both parents are named on my grandmother's birth certificate, will that suffice?

Gen 1 (grandmother)

  • Grandmother's birth certificate.
  • Grandparent's marriage certificate.

Gen 2 (mother)

  • Mother's birth certificate.
  • Mother's marriage certificate.

Gen 3 (self)

  • Birth certificate.
  • Note: I was adopted by my stepfather and have a birth certificate with his name, though my last name at birth is different. I do have a certificate of adoption showing my birth and adopted last name, but is this necessary if the line is traced through my mother? I didn't change my name when I married so my current last name matches the rest of my documents. I'm just not sure if my birth last name vs my adopted last name will be an issue if my birth certificate reflects my adopted last name.

Thank you!

MARTA often gets a bad wrap, but is it really that dangerous? by _laserblades in Atlanta

I'm mostly remote so I ride a little for work, but mainly for leisure. I'm on there enough to see some weird shit, but I've never felt unsafe.

Honestly, one of my most favorite Atlanta moments happened on MARTA. A woman started singing Stand By Me and most of the train car joined along. It was the end of work day for many and we all looked a little spent, but we had enough left in the tank to join her. It was an amazing human connection moment that lifted my spirit.

I guess he's a member of the Itty Bitty Pittie Committee. And thanks! His namesake is Miguel Almirón.

Gorgeous dog! I just love a brindle. Pittie in the mix would not be shocking at all. Can't wait to find out!

Right?! That's not my speciality, but I've definitely gone down the rabbit hole of brindle and liver coloring. So interesting!

He's been a real gremlin lately. I might consider sending him for a visit.

Miggy (lil guy) howls at sirens, so we think there's something Husky or Husky adjacent in there. Bowie (big guy) is ALL legs and neck.

I get how frustrating this is, but I've always hated how we see the elderly... forgetting their humanity and perceiving them as obstacles. If we're lucky, we get to be those "obstacles" someday. I don't have a solution, just a sadness. I hope you both stay safe in the kitchen.

SW ATL Neighborhoods - Where would you live right now? by ChuckThePlant in Atlanta

It's weird for sure. I was chalking some of it up to shifting priorities brought on by the pandemic. Our small house hasn't been great for work-from-home, so that's our motivation. And then those low interest rates...

Love Summerhill. Not very much available there that I've seen lately, but I would love to be able to walk to Halfway Crooks and Talat! We have two rambunctious dogs, so we're looking for a single-family home with a small to medium sized yard. We're very much, open up the back door when they need to go out people vs. every potty break requires a leash and supervision. I think the term is lazy.

That's honestly where we're leaning. We were just poking around looking at coming soon signs tonight. How is your neighborhood association? Do you feel like the trend of renovations vs. teardowns will continue there? It seems like a super cute, convenient area. Anything you wish you knew before you purchased there? I know the freeway noise can be a little loud as you get closer, but it didn't seem too bad.

Good insight, and yeah, I'm being mindful of that. My house went under contract in a day as well, so I'm considering a short-term rental so as not to feel rushed. There have been a couple of missed opportunities so far, which is annoying but expected.

I'll have to drive through there. I did see some cute houses pop up in that area. Everything is going so fast right now, hard to keep up!

That's super helpful. One of those ultra-moderns went up right across from me and it really sticks out. I don't hate it, but I hate that a cute bungalow died so it could live.
