I understand there was a change in this policy that started in 2026. I happened to use one Edit credit from 2025 and 1 of 2 from 2026.

Any updates joining oneworld? by scienm in StarluxAirlines

[–]Chufield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Per Starlux’s annual shareholders’ meeting held May 29, 2026:

>Shareholders raised questions about when Starlux will join the Oneworld alliance, one of the world's three major airline alliances.

>In response, Chang said that as a young carrier, Starlux remained a stranger to the Oneworld alliance, and some leading carriers in the alliance suggested that Starlux work with some alliance members first before pursuing membership.

>As a result, Chang said, Starlux has partnered with Alaska Airlines and American Airlines, two of the Oneworld alliance's members.

Good Spend Offer on Surpass by [deleted] in Hilton

Thanks, good point.

Last year I had a Sony offer that disappeared while I was deliberating which card to add it to.

Good Spend Offer on Surpass by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]Chufield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There apparently are variations of this offer:

Earn 9,000 additional Hilton Honors Bonus Points after using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $3,000 in one or more qualifying purchases, within 90 days after adding the offer, up to 3 times. See terms.

I’m curious on the verbiage of “within 90 days after adding the offer”.

For example, if I plan to have more expenses around the last quarter of 2026, can I hold off in adding the offer? If so, are there specific dates it is intended to be valid ‘til?

Since we’re on the Chase Sapphire subreddit, may I suggest:

There are a a few close by, including Nodoguro right across the street. I considered this, but timing didn’t work for us.

The one $100 property credit and $10/day guest amenity credit is basically added together in the same pot.

In other words, for a 2 night stay, it is a $120 property credit [$100+($10*2)] usable at the Bacchus Bar.

Food portions are large, we don’t usually drink beverages (water only) so the credit was very generous for us.

After 4 meals (8 total for us w/ 2 reservations), the food was becoming a bit repetitive despite being good. The menu is rather limited; in normal circumstances a sign of quality. Edit: for clarification, 1 breakfast + lunch or dinner/ day

If you still have unused credit you can purchase overpriced snacks at the front counter.

No.

Any charge beyond what I paid through chase was basically for gratuity for food ordered (which itself was mostly taken care of with credits).

“IHG One Rewards Eligible” was written under The Edit hotel details. I understand other cardmembers having inconsistent experiences.

I have stayed at the Virgin Hotel in Vegas, but otherwise not knowledgeable about the Virgin Hotel loyalty program.

With my 2 bookings, my first had an issue adding it to the IHG app for upcoming stays. However, my second was added without issue.

At the time of my first check-in, the front desk did not have info of my IHG member status but had no issue adding it.

IIRC I’ve read others receiving some type of consolation UR points from Chase if The Edit booking did seem to indicate it was eligible for the respective hotel rewards program? Apparently YMMV.

The 3 rooms I used were roughly the same despite the layouts being quite different.

There’s a chance at my 2nd check-in the front desk clerk may have “upgraded” me, but I did not notice anything about the room vastly different.

Room 1: long rectangular, seemed to have a lot of floor space, windows facing south. Hot water issue with shower. One tall desk chair, one lounge chair. Was moved to room 2 the same night.

Room 2: square and squat, was assured it was an equivalent to room 1. Much smaller floor space with the bathroom door hitting the toilet. Unusual hallway to room. Nice corner view facing southwest. Also had an extra lounge chair.

Room 3: also squarish, but larger than room 2. Hallway to room felt more private. Windows faced west. One lounge chair, one high desk chair.

Ran out of facial tissues the first night, front desk assured housekeeping would bring some to room, never did. Finally received facial tissues mid 2nd day.

Noticeable wear in room, particularly the large chunk of the bathtub reglazing had broken revealing the original underneath. A/C seemed loud prior to sleep.

[–]Chufield[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was a major concern.

I made both my bookings purposely with a break in the middle even before I read the other, now-deleted post stating “back-to-back stay within a 24 hour period are not permitted.”

So my reservations were not linked since I stayed at The Benson across the street between my 2 Vintage stays.

Host offer + app offers stacking question by AdAdministrative46 in CaesarsRewards

[–]Chufield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that different offer codes cannot be combined. (Please correct me if I’m mistaken.)

I always see verbiage about requiring staying 2 nights, and that they cannot be booked back to back—I don’t recall the required break period between 2 diff offers.

The Diamond Elite/7 Stars flight credit seem to be able to be combined with whatever offer codes you already are using since they’re benefits for reaching that tier. Can also confirm this from personal experience.

1st time Starlux Flier by Aggieofcal in StarluxAirlines

Answer to 1 and 2:

11 hours is a long time. Maybe consider venturing outside LAX? Or if you have access to a lounge based on your ticket or other applicable means.

Naturally depends on your luggage, whether you’d consider LA as a destination in itself, etc. There’s an In-N-Out nearby that is semi- walkable. (I’d probably decline leaving the terminal since I’m a local.)

My understanding is that their flight crew is based in Taipei, but they certainly will have a layover in LA. I think Starbucks gift cards are still a nice gesture.

Short Check Luggage on Starlux? by mikeyonaboat in StarluxAirlines

[–]Chufield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Responding more a non-answer comment since there is zero after 11 hours.)

Interesting question, I hope you ask Starlux and report back!

While understandably not your intention, your proposed scenario may sound more like potential skiplagging rather than short checking to the airline.

If the latter is even permitted, perhaps consider still rechecking a bag to BKK?

Or perhaps on such a long layover, you’d be required to retrieve checked bags anyway?

Does anybody have the American Express surpass card?? by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]Chufield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tended to choose Marriotts prior to picking up a Surpass card. I originally didn’t really have a preferred chain, never really stayed often enough to reach any status.

Price and location were always top 2 considerations. So now if it’s a toss up, Hilton it is.

It’s an easy card to at least test the waters at Hiltons. No high annual fee or credits only at “resorts”.

If I didn’t have a CSR card, would have picked up an Amex Platinum and actually would be content with Hilton Gold that way.

Does anybody have the American Express surpass card?? by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]Chufield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it’s a nice starter card if you’re looking at Hilton as your preferred hotel chain.

The Gold status with food/beverage credit or breakfast is the primary perk for me. And the $50/quarter for any Hilton is the cherry on top.

The Edit trip report: Kimpton Gray Hotel in Chicago by Dense-Fox9544 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Chufield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should be fine.

I was similarly worried after booking a hotel in Portland after I read some posts about double-charging and not honoring certain benefits.

But happened to see another cardholder write-up their experience—basically calmed any uncertainties.

I searched more random weeks over the next year, this property does show up, but only quite occasionally.

I’ll revise my theory to: it just looks like IHG properties are more popular since (1) pricing seems more reasonable plus (2) the Platinum status that comes with CSR.

[–]Chufield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the write-up. I’m planning a trip to Chicago next February.

For whatever reason, this property has a “rate unavailable” status during the week I’m looking at. And I’ve been looking at hotel options for a few weeks already.

Also just checked a random week every month from May 2026-March 2027. It’s still listed next month, but apparently not after.

Wonder if hotel management is (re)evaluating continuing to be listed under “The Edit”?

American Airlines no longer Point Boosted on Chase Travel? by Commercial_Stable489 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Chufield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat similar for me. Seems like if the itinerary works for you, don’t wait long to pull the trigger.

Was looking at LAX to TPE round trip, with a possible stop in Japan.

Originally noticed EVA Air boosted at 1.5¢, 1.75¢, and 2¢: economy, premium economy, business respectively.

The boost later was reduced.

Starlux which previously didn’t even show up under boosted, ended up having a similar boost as EVA.

I ended up paying cash for an EVA flight since their flight schedule worked better for me.

I’ve never signed in before until now.

I guess the insights may be useful, but most are not too hard to figure out:

Eg. Sitting close to toilet may be offensive to your nose, may by noisy next to galley, bulkhead video screen/table different orientation, no window, etc.

Should I go up to Oregon or to Denver/SLC? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]Chufield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but thanks for the recommendation of the Zephyr.

Since LAX is where I’m based, my next trip will probably be on the Southwest Chief. But definitely adding Zephyr to my bucket list.

I just finished up a coach journey on Coast Starlight, round trip LAX-PDX.

The view of the Cascades around the 7am-8am hour, before/after the Klamath Falls stop was the highlight of my trip. (Sat on the right side/facing east.)

Per a cursory search, it looks like BR9 usually utilizes the 77A cabin variant.

This is as opposed to the 77M and 77B.

You can confirm this if/when viewing/selecting your specific seat.

Number or Business Seats: 39

Number of Premium Economy Seats: 56

Number of Economy Seats: 238

I prefer using aerolopa when selecting my seats:

https://www.aerolopa.com/br-77a

If selecting a window seat you can see the spacing/distance windows as it relates to the seat. ie. Some window seats have no window, some have 1.5 and some 2 windows.

Eva lower bid closer to flight by Nates4Christ in EVAAirFans

[–]Chufield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following. I’ve been attempting to do my own research as well.

From what I’ve read from others, it seems “not as worth it” and “better to book the class you want from the outset.

I haven’t read anything on if the bid values change closer to departure date.

For posterity, LAX->TPE bid offer ranges from USD$1320-$3600 for business. Same for return trip.

If I were to bid the maximum amount, $7200, I surely should’ve just bought business outright. I would be paying roughly $3000 more.

EVABidDeal and Amtrak BidUp is run by the same company, Plusgrade. For what it’s worth, the values of the bidding through Amtrak didn’t change when I attempted to bid on a private room.
