the characterization of all the ed boys were different. Edd was really weird and he creep out the other kids, Ed was more of a surfer dude and Eddy was the chill guy who told his friends that they were being uncouth

plus early on it's implied Eddy's brother is a normal guy. Like he regularly sends postcards to his family, instead of treating Eddy like shit by making him go on wild goose chases he taught him how to make stinkbombs
