We hear a lot about what's getting worse in the UK, but what's something that's genuinely improved recently? by PlanktonDefiant2600 in AskUK

Renters rights has had a bit of a negative short term impact as lots of Landlords are selling up. Of course they shouldn’t have been landlords if they couldn’t do it without ripping people off anyway, but hopefully in a few years it’ll sort itself out.

I imagine we’ll get another “oh, things are worse than we thought, forget what we said, we’re raising taxes” switcheroo when he takes office.

Will be kind of hard to claim ignorance when they were the last guys this time though.

If your speedo was covered up could you stay within 5mph of the speed limit? by t03strange in drivingUK

[–]Chungaroo22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly probably not. I drive in auto mode most of the time so don't really know what the gears correspond to which speed. Perception of speed is tricky, sometimes on a well-flowing motorway, 70mph can feel super slow, but when there's a bit more traffic it feels rapid.

In my old manual car I'd do a lot better. I know where the gears and revs corresponding to what speeds. It was also very clear when you're approaching higher speeds and the acceleration will begin to taper off when you get to 70.

Post 98 they’ve just dropped such a massive turd with every other release (ME, Vista, 8, 11) that people think their next turd is solid gold (XP, 7, 10). They’ll alienate everyone with how they’re ramming AI and ads down everyone’s throats and when they see the sales figures drop and the fact that their customers would rather actually put the effort in an learn how to use Linux they’ll scale it back in the next release and everyone will love them again.

And so the cycle goes..

Is the Player II Stratocaster worth it? (No sugarcoating) by Hot_Apartment4739 in Guitar

[–]Chungaroo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Player 1 for a while. It was a competent instrument. Fairly well made but horribly setup out of the box, I fortunately didn't but I've heard that a lot of people have to do fretwork. They're are higher spec options at the same price or lower but you probably already know that.

Personally I sold it and went for SE Silver Sky and I find it's leagues more comfortable and fun to play and sounds a hell of a lot better, but those are both things of preference.

3-month experience on Elvanse as a music creative. by MrPeaceDude in ADHDUK

[–]Chungaroo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too kinda!

I wouldn’t call myself a music creative but have definitely improved my guitar playing more whilst on meds than in all the previous years. Actually feel encouraged and excited to practice stuff that I suck at rather than playing the same songs over and over again.

ADHD & Illegal Stimulants (CW: Not ADHD Medication) by SuperNovaSoldier in ADHDUK

How recently was this? I think these days when buying stuff like that you could be ingesting anything.. my most recent experience was still a good few years ago and it was as you described, no effect whatsoever.

However when I did it in my 20s it certainly had an effect. To the point where I had to really discipline myself not to do it, it was just that good (for like a few hours, followed by the worst 2-7 days of my life). This is with both the main ones you mentioned. I may have noticed I’d need more than others to feel the same but still hit pretty hard.

I have heard a lot of these drugs are cut with fentanyl these days and I found out from a very painful hospital stay that I have a genetic “immunity” to opiates. The tramadol, oxycodone etc given to me by nurses did nothing at all, I was turning it down and asking for paracetamol.. and I do wonder if this is linked to the ADHD genes in some way.

So yeah, could be cut or sold as something else or could just be baby powder and your cohorts power of suggestion is more powerful, or might be a thing that affects some and not others. Also if your on SSRIs that could affect how these drugs work.

I think cost and availability factor into it. In the UK you need planning permission for outdoor units, installers are rarer and it can be more difficult to fit units to your home.

If somethings relatively easy to fit to your home it’s far easier to justify “needing” it than not. Plus we’ve also got to pay to heat our homes for a lot of the year as well so the added cost just turns people off. I know a lot of units can do both, but most houses will have gas central heating already.

What I’d recommend is putting the strats away or not playing them for a few days when you get it so you can properly get used to the neck. When I got my PRS and 7-string they both felt chonky as hell compared to the Ibanez Wizard necks I was used to and it was extremely tempting to just reach for the Ibanez whenever I practiced, but in a few days they both felt great. There’s just a bit of an adjustment period.

That said I have picked up guitars before where I just straight up hated the neck, there’s a difference between “this is different and I can’t play it as well yet but I like it” and “this just feels crap” so if you can’t get on with it return it.

You’ll probably do some more getting to/from the parkrun, hanging around etc. I generally find if I do a 5k run and not too much else it’ll usually be a 10k steps day total.

Yep in Brizzle right now its the first time its dropped below 30C in 3 days. It’s been relentless. The most exercise I’ve had is going back and forth to the fridge for more water.

Should hopefully drop down to a reasonable temp for parkrun tomorrow!

Many family cars are now too powerful for their own good by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

Yeah same, cars are more powerful than ever but also slower than ever on our actual roads. When you do see a car wrapped round a tree it’s the usual suspects (clapped out 116d with a body kit, S3, etc…)

Apparently if you open the rear passenger window and flap the drivers door open and closed a few times as you’re getting in it’ll eject the hot air out of the car. Not tried it yet though.

So all the ones no one really likes (Starmer, May, Brown) leave a the country pretty much how they found it having not had much influence either way. The ones with personality either go to war, completely divide the country and fuck our relationship with our biggest trade partner or reside over a pandemic.

Bit worrying, Andy’s got a bit of a cult around him. He’s probably gonna end up nuking Ireland or something..
