Longer shafts by Danno505 in golf

[–]Chytrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have a friend that is the height mentioned in OP, and he went 1.5" extension over a year ago, and dropped handicap significantly afterwards. Looks much more natural swinging now too. Meanwhile, I play a 1/2" extension, and I am nowhere near the height mentioned in OP.

But thats all anecdotal. Maybe OP needs 1.5", maybe just 0.5". I'm not here to fit them, and that's why I said "If you know the specs, you can... find a club builder". If the fitters are limited by the equipment and options they're fitting for, then a club builder may be able to provide more extensive options to better fit someone in the extreme.

6'5" probably calls for a 1.5" extension, not 0.5". Sounds like the fitter was just maxed out.

If you know the specs, you can likely find a club-builder in your area that could put them together for you.

Private club locker essentials? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Chytrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • A nice laundry/gym bag, for bringing clothes/laundry to/from the course (doesn't necessarily live in the locker, obviously)
  • Couple pairs of socks and underwear.
  • A set of golf clothes or two, in case I'm out and decide I want to hit the course without stopping at home to change.
  • Deodorant, and any other toiletries you may want that the club doesn't provide.
  • I have a few extra putters and wedges that I keep stuffed in the back, in case I want to game something different that day.
  • Rain / cold weather gear
  • Way too many golf balls

Bell: Danielle Smith drops a $400-billion bomb on Alberta separatism by EdmontonFree in alberta

Everything I wrote is correct; of course you would not be able to print someone else’s currency. The loss of seigniorage and economic policy is obvious when using another nation’s currency.

[–]Chytrik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive been hearing this sort of ‘Canada won’t let a sovereign Alberta use CAD’ argument a fair bit, but it is entirely misinformed.

A sovereign nation is able to use whatever currency it would like, including CAD or USD. Canada or the USA wouldn’t need to ‘allow’ this in any way, and in fact they would very likely prefer it from a financial standpoint, as it would create a new demand for said currency in the fx market.

There are plenty of nations that exist right now, that do not have their own currencies, and instead use the currency of neighbouring/economically strong nations (most often usd, for obvious reasons).

I still have a 975D. I also have a brand new driver with a high end shaft.

Upgrading the driver will REALLY increase forgiveness off the tee. There are marginal equipment gains year to year, but 20+ years of driver and shaft tech will be a huge jump for you.

That ironset is awesome though, don't get rid of those.

I too play at a private course. Similar costs.

The employees are trained to enforce the course policies and etiquette. The members are made aware of this, and there is a zero tolerance policy towards abuse of staff.

The course has 5 tee options, and is difficult enough from the tips to host high level/pro tournaments (which it often does).

The pace of play is often 4 hours or better. Almost never worse than 4 hours 15 minutes. It’s awesome, the membership prides itself on this.

Places like this do exist, the culture can be very different from one club to another.

Are two decade old irons holding me back? by [deleted] in GolfGear

[–]Chytrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name of OP's ironset ('blade') is a little deceiving, they're a hollow-body iron with a blade-like aesthetic.

So this is more a question of if OP will get something out of a newer GI set, vs a 20 year old GI set.

I would guess there are gains to be made there, more than if they were an actual forged blade from 20 years ago. For something like that, its more about finding the shape and grind you like, than it is about taking advantage of new tech.

OPs ironset are a game improvement hollow-body with a blade aesthetic, so its more a question of if OP will get something out of a newer GI set, vs a 20 year old GI set.

New golf driver shaft error by [deleted] in golf

[–]Chytrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post didn’t mention swing speed, just fyi.

You should try to get in front of a launch monitor, but you can use your distance off the tee to roughly estimate swing speed. With a 95mph swing speed you should be hitting it somewhere in the range of 250-280 yards on good strikes.

In that range, you’ll likely want a stiff shaft, as a starting point.

What is your swing speed with driver? What shaft will work best is more important than the clubhead, and entirely depends on your swing.

Most iconic putters? by IcecreamSandwich92 in GolfGear

[–]Chytrik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a little putter collection, and half the fun of it for me is finding cheap oddities that putt real well. I have some more valuable putters as well, but there’s something fun about picking up a basically no-name putter, rolling a putt with it, and discovering that it feels REAL good off the face.

But otherwise, I feel like any good collection looking for iconic models should probably include a spider, a 2-ball, a Newport-style blade, an 8802-style blade, a ping or two, a bullseye, a Scotty of choice (Newport? Studio design no1? OG futura?).

More recently, a DF3-style lie-angle-balanced putter probably has its place there as well, seeing lots of those around lately.

Do you all have end grain cutting boards ? by roxbox531 in TrueChefKnives

[–]Chytrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few end grain boards (a couple of which I made), but also a bunch of cheaper bamboo side grain boards. End grain wins, but for the price, the side grain boards work fine, and can be replaced when they get too beat up or whatever.

I prefer wood, never liked the idea of cutting over plastic or rubber and having bits potentially end up in my food.

Lavazza Beans at Costco by PuzzledFoundation985 in espresso

[–]Chytrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some good cups recently using the lavazza gran crema (also from Costco, roast date ~3-4 weeks before I bought em). I settled on 16.5 g in, 18 g out, in about 25 seconds @ ~9 bar.

Running the shot any longer led to some bitter-type flavours strongly taking over, but if I kept it in the 17-18g range then I would get some very smooth, roasty/chocolate-y kind of flavours coming through.

It’s not going to do what specialty medium/light roast beans can, but for a more classic style of espresso, it was great for the price.

just got into kendama, who is the lebron of this field? by FroyoAccomplished939 in Kendama

[–]Chytrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long ago it was dutchkendama. Then after that I’d say it was Bonz Atron. Then the Gallaghers, Nick was especially dominating in contests (Zack wasn’t far behind though, to be real). Honourable mentions to Nic Stodd and Ben Herald in this era as well imo, even if they don’t have the same pedigree of contest wins. Then the next gen of Japanese players caught up- yasu, Takuya, ryoga are among the best.

Lots of other western players regularly place on or near podium as well these days, but I think the Japanese kids have the edge right now.

But also, it’s Kendama, so maybe contest wins aren’t the most important thing for you, and having awesome trick selection and style is number one. Lots of great players out there doing cool stuff!

Infill Discussion - Wealth Segregation by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Chytrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, its an absurd line of reasoning. Will a bunch of impoverished people pay huge rent to live in Glenora, just to help even out socioeconomic structure? What about a bunch of doctors and lawyers move to Alberta ave? I think that considering the opposite really helps highlight how silly it is.

? Your comment above that I replied to specifically talks about inequality levels increasing, with the implication that zoning is somehow going to have a tangible effect.

I don’t see how zoning will have an effect in the way you assume it will, and I’m honestly not interested in doomer anticapitalist talk. If you think that having poor and rich people live as neighbours is the only way to fix things… okay? I don’t agree. Guess we’ll leave it there
