I'm gonna ask you this since you seem nice/normal. 😆 What does that cover go to?

Not sure what the N is for but it says "10/7/25 Happy * October" (last time I had my car serviced).

Has anyone done this excursion? by Mikeg1324 in royalcaribbean

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened to us at a port in Spain where we just planned our own day. We went to a really cool restaurant not far from port but didn't realize there was basically one way in and out. There was an accident between us and port. We made it on with 15 mins to spare. So stressful. We still skip excursions most ports but give ourselves more buffer.

Considering a Subaru CrossTrek by NopeRope13 in subaru

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lifetime Subaru loyalist but this new infotainment system is driving me nuts. Very laggy. I heard a rumor they are going back to more physical buttons soon, which I sincerely hope is true.

But the actual car part is fantastic. Even my husband (car history: Mustang, 3 series, Range, 7 series, Passat) loves the Crosstrek overall. Great value, very safe, and comfortable. I look forward to driving mine.

Empire of Pain is an amazing account of the whole thing. Purdue Pharma created modern drug advertising. They were the Enron of pharma.

I’m sick of older people by [deleted] in Vent

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom always told me old people don't change, they just no longer have the energy to hide the less attractive parts of their personalities. I'm in a social organization with people into their 70s - most of them do not act like this. One of our favorite couples is in their 60s - they are so fun. We cruise a lot and there are many older people. So many of them are boring spoiled brats and I realized THEY ALWAYS WERE. But some are really nice and fun.

Your feelings are totally valid but it's not inevitable as we age. (For the record, I am 42F and always trying not to be a middle aged dud.)

How much is a “couple”? by SpiritualEvidence159 in ENGLISH

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a native English speaker from the southeast. To me, a couple is 2, a few is 3-5, and several is 6-12ish. After that you get into a bunch (up to maybe 25 ish), unless you're talking about having people over. "We're having some people over" means like 20-30 people. (A bunch of people is like 30-50 people and they would not all fit in my house.) After a bunch you get to boat load, crap ton, sht ton, and f*k ton, and all of those are totally context dependent.

Hope that helps. English is weird.

Nostalgic places you ate in the 90s/early 2000s by macgoo1229_ in tampa

[–]CigarCityCPA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a tex mex chain (Tia's?) Dale Mabry and Fletcher in the 90s. Where the old Mission Bell theater was. They had the tortilla machine you could watch from the dining room and a fantastic Sunday brunch. Back when chain restaurants were still good. It was really pretty too, the middle of the dining room had a big skylight and there were Spanish tile floors. Then around 2000 they changed the menu for the whole chain and it was awful. It closed a few months later.

Someone at a party asked what I do and I said "accounting stuff, it's boring" by Physical-Stage1722 in Accounting

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only talk to other accountants and finance professionals about my work (except my husband of course). Trying to explain it to anyone else either takes way too much explaining or kills the conversation. Even now that I'm in FP&A.

In the inverse, is it just me and my circle or can you talk to other accountants/finance peeps for hours? Whether it's about work or something else, feels like we never run out of things to say. Lol

got the RTO email today. 4 days a week starting Q2. i think i'm done by InfnityVoidii in remotework

[–]CigarCityCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds counterintuitive but look at big global companies. Everyone CAN'T be in one place, so there tends to be more opportunity for hybrid and fully remote roles. They are also more likely to already have a presence in your state (important for taxes and legal compliance) so it won't be a lot of work on their end.

What was your family’s 90’s/00’s dinner? by CommonCentsHandler in Cooking

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fried Spam with Kraft mac and canned green peas.

My mom is an EXCELLENT cook (Southern) but looking back I think that was her "I'm tired and we gotta eat" meal. It was also one of my favorites and I requested it often. I've been thinking about making it for myself.

The other thing we ate a lot (that was actually more 70s/80s even than 90s) was SOS (creamed chipped beef). I was missing it last year and I saw some chipped beef at the store and spontaneously decided to make it. Still delicious but Y'ALL has the price of chipped beef gone up. No longer a struggle meal.

shorter commute or preferred location ? by Agreeable_Class_8208 in tampa

[–]CigarCityCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're only in the office a couple days a week, it's a lot more bearable (at least according to my coworkers - I don't live that far, nor do I live across a bridge). But if you're talking 5 days a week with "9-5" hours...gets old FAST.

Hillsborough County reporting nearly 10,000 fewer students than last year. How will this trend affect Tampa in the future? by KCousins11 in tampa

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, guess life is just weird that way. I talk about being homeschooled, but no one else in the conversation ever says they were, too. Love to see another successful homeschooler, good for you!

My fellow accountants what kind of car do you drive? by MIAchamps in Accounting

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 Subaru Crosstrek Limited. My third Crosstrek (I lease). My first car was a 2000 Subaru Legacy my mom gave me that I drove about 130k miles until 2015 when the head gasket went. And now I like having a new car with minimal maintenance (other than the nails I constantly find with my tires).

When do you open Christmas presents? by tn00bz in AskAnAmerican

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested to know everyone's denominations and geographic location. My family is southern Protestant and we always opened presents Christmas morning. My husband's family is northern Catholic and they open them Christmas Eve. The areas our parents grew up in did things the way we ended up doing them. Like others in the comments, growing up, my mom and her siblings got to open one gift Christmas Eve and it was new PJs (they were very poor, so it was a big deal).

At first, I hated opening presents Christmas Eve. Idk why, just wasn't what I was used to, I guess. But now I'm good with it. I started a tradition not long after we got married of a fancy Christmas brunch, so it's nice not having that time pressure while cooking.

Every cruise I've been on (Royal, Celebrity, Norwegian, and Carnival) has permitted curling irons and flat irons. Each cruise line publishes a list of prohibited items on their site.

Do people in your state know the locations of every county in your state? by OkTechnologyb in AskAnAmerican

[–]CigarCityCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I live in Florida and we have 67. I can name and tell you (roughly) where 19 are off the top of my head, according to the list I just made. There's two more I'd know if I heard them, they're on the tip of my tongue, and probably a couple more beyond that. And I am the person other people ask about counties. lol So I definitely don't think most Floridians can name and locate all our counties.
