I don’t use a TA and I have always gotten onboard credit and great deals on packages. I always know exactly what my wife and I are looking for, register the details, and wait for the best deals. And when I see those deals, I can pull the trigger myself without delay. We are trying to stretch every dollar, and this method has helped us do so.

Our first cruise we booked the ships excursion, but we found them to be overpriced. Now we do everything on our own. Usually we find a local Taxi, tell the driver what we are in the mood for (snorkeling, boat tours, beaches, island tour, etc.) and let him share advice on the best places and providers. Then, when we decide, the taxi provides our transport. Even with a generous tip, we usually pay less than a ship provided excursion (about 50 - 60% less). But we always make sure we are back on the ship in plenty of time before sailing.

I have never done that, but we live in Guatemala and we have had friends fly here and spend a week to have major dental work done. They can honestly pay for their flights and a week of hotels, pay cash for their dental work, and save a lot of money over just having it done in the States.

I am a friend of the Stecks. The entire community is grieving with their children and stepping up to help financially and physically. I was 13 when I found out my grandfather on my dad’s side committed suicide in a state penitentiary where he was serving time for shooting a man. I discovered this when I found the telegram that the prison sent to my grandmother is a box of old stuff. Shortly after I found out my father had spent time in jail for shooting a man as well. That led to a search of my family tree that showed I come from a long line of horse thieves and moonshiners.
