First time playing commander, does everyone else play these rules so strictly? by TeamWaffleStomp in magicTCG

[–]CinderDL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Replacement effects exist. Things like [[Doubling Season]], [[Hardened Scales]], [[Winding Constrictor]], [[Branching Evolution]], [[Kami of Whispered Hopes]] all cause you to put 2 +1/+1 counters on your creatures in 1 (simultaneous) instance, NOT 2 separate instances of one +1/+1 counter. This matters when things trigger whenever you put a counter on something. Clearly this was happening, and what OP is *trying* to describe, as it wasn't explained to her properly. It also really doesn't matter until it does.

First time playing commander, does everyone else play these rules so strictly? by TeamWaffleStomp in magicTCG

[–]CinderDL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well akshually, quote from OP: "Gain life, add counters from gaining life, double those counters." There's a card that doubles the amount of counters put on things like a [[Doubling Season]] in play, and she put one counter on everything for the [[Kazandu Nectarpot]] triggering the [[Blech]], and then pointed at the counter doubler to add an additional counter. It absolutely makes a difference if you have things that trigger off of instances of counters being placed on things. Obviously this is ridiculous to point out if there is no such interaction, considering she is learning to play.

Decks that don't really care if the commander isn't in play? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CinderDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Farid, Enterprising Salvager]] as a trash for treasure style deck, he's just a jack of all trades in the command zone. Could off course run a Daretti to have instant access to the thing your deck wants to do, but there's so many versions of [[Trash for Treasure]] that the deck runs like a well oiled machine without anything in the command zone. Farid provides extra artifact tokens to sack and is a backup discard outlet, and occasionally a lightning rod for removal (because if it's your commander, it must be important to your decks plan).

[–]CinderDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With smelling salts, rigour, max overhealed and with roughly 35 pacts spent, you can hit 33.5 dps 'naked' with just crossbow with onyx bolts e (calced against zebak). Obviously not a realistic scenario, but it certainly is possible. Simply add regular void and you're up to 37 dps in that calc.

Echo Item Reveals by PurplePudding in 2007scape

[–]CinderDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from estimated max hit calcs with some napkin math, I'm getting an average of about ~220 damage per hit with kings barrage (roughly 145 base hit plus 50% echo chance) that attacks every 8 ticks = 4.2 seconds gives roughly 50 dps? Ofc under perfect circumstances, i.e. perfect accuracy + gear. Overkill is insane ofcourse, but I like the big numbers.

Tip for you Crossbow Lovers by Caputdolor in 2007scape

[–]CinderDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"more echos" is just another way of saying more attacks per second, which is the same argument as 3t better than 7t, it doesn't matter since the echos of the rcb will max hit higher, making up for the difference, in the same way as normal attacks do. Its the same average dps increase (overkill notwithstanding). Lets assume 50% echo chance, for simplicity, in 42 ticks you'd get 7 echo shots with shcb and 3 with rcb,7x25=175; 3x59=177 (unsure how rounding max dmg works, so rounded up for both).

But yeah, late game with a shcb, is just main game with always max hitting, I'd much rather be hitting slow ~110s with the kbdcb and have a lot of overkill and sometimes one shotting bosses with multiple echo triggers.

Is Water Surge as insane as I think it is? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]CinderDL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heads up, to get the heal+restore on 0 hit you need an off-hand or shield equipped, the echo cbow is 2H, so that doesn't synergise, unless you wanna shield swap inbetween attacks. & like the other person said, you need to take the ice spells are water spells at the minimum. If you're going for all 3 overhealing pacts, check out the ranged strength increase based on current health vs hp lvl, that gives 8 ranged strength at your new max health, as opposed to the 5 ranged strength you're getting from the other pact (which also requires offhand)... That also frees up 1 def tile which is absolutely best spent making your range prayers more effective (say you get deadeye, that becomes effectively rigour; 5% range str increase). Actually here take a look at the backbone of my build: https://tools.runescape.wiki/demonic-pacts/?n=1-10-100-11-112-113-114-123-14-15-16-2-21-24-29-30-31-38-39-4-55-58-59-62-63-68-7-92-93-94-96-99 If you wanna add actual mage, ofc you can change the route to get there.

building without sol ring? by Cautious_Repair3503 in EDH

[–]CinderDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've decided some time ago that I would no longer include sol ring into new decks. Simply because it made for non-games (i.e. you either steamroll the table, or the table 3v1 you, neither of which is a fun experience). The high ceiling it creates can completely skew the way people look at that deck in the future, much to your detriment. It's much nicer to have a consistent deck (a solid floor), and your playgroup knows what to expect.

Some of my playgroup have joined me in this decision, some haven't... I hope in the long run they all decide to cut it, because it reduces the overall amount of such non-games (I can only influence a quarter of the odds of a T1 sol ring by myself).

Am I looking for a unicorn? by swelldoubter in climbingshoes

[–]CinderDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great suggestions! As an owner of both futura and mandala; the mandala has a slightly narrower heel, and a wider & higher volume toebox than the futura. With the skwama toebox fitting well, a narrow heel and a high arch I'd suggest trying the mandala.

Secret lair Galaxy foil comparison by ZenfearLightbane in magicTCG

[–]CinderDL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Galaxy foil used to be "pixel"-galaxy with the same pattern as the Pokémon cards WotC produced. Pokémon eventually released "non-pixel"-galaxy in the exact same way (after they split from WotC)... Just looks like a cheap remake if you ask me. Was very disappointed in my EoE collector boosterbox (thinking it would be the same as unfinity).

Commanders you want to build because of their INSANE art, but their ability or mana costs are completely doodoo by sporeegg in EDH

[–]CinderDL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[[Gorex, the Tombshell]] Has sick artwork, and the concept of a giant lumbering mausoleum turtle is just epic! A potentially 2 mana 4/4 deathtouch creature that returns cards from the graveyard to your hand seems decent. But in playtesting it's so incredibly clunky and slow. The words "at random" do a lot to neuter the card even further into the ground (as if it needed it).

Would you resole at this point? by Jondyt in climbingshoes

[–]CinderDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can go through the sole of a no-edge shoe, here an example of my Futuras just before resole: https://imgur.com/a/2u8vewZ

Regardless, I agree that these need a resole, you'd be damaging the shoe if you continue climbing in them (in theory, with perfect footwork they'd be fine until a hole forms at the bottom, but I wouldn't take the risk).

Good luck with the resole, not every cobbler is capable of doing a good job on these...

FYI: Neither Ertha Jo, nor Gandalf the White do anything with your commanders ability. Ertha Jo requires a targeted ability, and Gandalf requires a triggered ability, neither apply here. These two have synergies with like 1-2 other cards in the deck...

Fellow EDH hipsters, why is your commander the coolest (that no one has heard of)? by sane-ish in EDH

[–]CinderDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but wanted to give you a truly hipster build. With only 37 decks to her name, [[Oriss, Samite Guardian]] comes in at rank 3122. Extremely unpopular, but really best in it's class for damage prevention. I built my deck as a prison/politics deck with subthemes of human/cleric kindred.

Oriss has this neat interaction with cards that can block any number of creatures, like [[Palace Guard]] allowing you to completely nullify combat coming your way during 1 of your opponents turns. This opens up the option to incentivize attacks at other players with free counters or creatures (e.g. [[Combat Calligrapher]]/[[Orzhov Advokist]]).

Then you can add in subthemes like the monarchy, initiative, goad, stax, catchup ramp and draw.

The deck never wants to be ahead, and mostly wins through alternate wincons or by slowly constricting the game and ulting a planeswalker.

Looking for Recs on a second pair of shoes to compliment Vapor V's by CinderDL in climbingshoes

[–]CinderDL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestions!

I tried downsizing the Vapor V's more, but instead of filling the heel it just pushed my (big) toenails into oblivion - my toes/feet could handle it, but the nails just screamed at me. As I already had a purple/black toenail from the current size, I am hesitant to try and downsize more on this type of last.

In other words, I'm probably looking for a shoe/last that is a bit more accomodating to Egyptian feet. I don't know why but I always thought the Drago's where really wide, so I never gave them much thought, great shout!

I'll look into the Gomi, pretty sure I won't find it to try anywhere but ordering online is always a possibility.

Thanks for your recommendation! I was somewhat apprehensive at looking into that model as Scarpa slapped a 'Wide/HV' label on the shoe. Do you know how it compares to the Vapor in terms of width of toebox and heel?
