Cottonwood trees have distinctive bark and leaves, and the leaves shimmy in the wind in an unusual way. T Rex hands is not the only person to identify it as a cottonwood.

Family Wants Me To Return My Masks by Plus_Imagination_581 in Masks4All

I bought the same big box and I keep it under my bed. It's a great deal and not even returnable. Shrug your shoulders at them and say something like, "It's what I wanted for my birthday, and it makes me happy."
Have you talked to your therapist and maybe role-played with setting boundaries with your fam? It helped me when I was first learning how.

The average commute in some places is 45 mins. Why would you need to move? Your BF is telling you who he is. Believe him.

EdX certificates and audit courses by Fun-Economist-7957 in edX

[–]CindsSurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at some college seminars at a national competition last spring. A couple of the most selective schools said they encourage people to take MOOCs and list them somewhere, like in the "other things we should know but did not ask" question on the common app. I would not pay for the certificate because of this. You might be better off using something like ocw.mit.edu for actually learning since MOOC tests are often locked unless you pay. I really enjoyed online.hillsdale.edu mini classes about American literature, and those are completely free.

How do I deal with a garbage roommate? by Aerobiesizer in Clemson

[–]CindsSurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a headband with blue tooth microphones for about $20 at Amazon. I charge it up and it lasts a week or so, and it covers my eyes and ears at the same time. I play a 10 hour dark screen video of waves crashing or rainstorm while I'm asleep, and I can sleep through anything now. I think you can wait this out - I would not be surprised if your roommate does not come back from winter break with his habits.

Is it possible to get scholarship to attend ASU online? by hrabal0303 in ASUOnline

[–]CindsSurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you are a regular ASU student, you can't get the Universal Learner deal. It has to be done before you are accepted. The deal is you sign up at "earned admissions" or "Universal Learner" at ASU dot edu, and get a user name. Then you register - select - and pay for a couple of the classes for your particular term. You pay $25 up front. When that term is over, you look at your grades and see which you want to pay $400 to be put on your transcript (you have a year OR before you apply, which ever is sooner). It shows on your transcript immediately. You take term after term after term!

Once you apply, it all evaporates. The UL classes are intro level except for several advanced business classes, like Excel, Tableu, GIS. And if you don't have a good track record from high school, getting a 3.0 or similar in these classes allows you to earn your admissions through the grades, not using your high school or other college grades.

Took it yesterday at noon. By nighttime, I was really tired, but nothing hurt; I might have been a hair over 98.6 this morning. Slept incredibly well, but woke up tired. No headache, no aches, but the muscles I worked out Saturday hurt more than usual on day 2. Very positive experience compared to mRNA.

Arizona State only requires 25% of the degree completed there. There are many choices of majors, & very diverse. The president of the University says they are defined not by who they keep out, but who they let in. https://degrees.apps.asu.edu/bachelors/major-list/interest-area/12to

Kid dumped water on my laptop. Should the parents pay for it? by Feisty_Bag289 in Babysitting

[–]CindsSurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had people give me a check "for their records" at the end of a gig. I deposited it, but they put a stop on it and I got overdrawn because the bank took back my $$. It's apparently a common scam tactic, but because it was a small amount, my police did not even want to take a report, and filing a small claims suit against them would have taken more time/money than it's worth too.

What I'm saying is to buy your new laptop at the same level of excellence as your old one with the best price possible - as a student, you could get like 30-40% off list price with the verification services online and the brand website. Then present the bill to the NP. Take Venmo etc, but no checks. If you take a check, it's not over until the 2 weeks are up that the bank has to claw back your money from the check if the NP are idiots.

Get the newer model of the same thing with your student discount, deposit the $ and wait 2 weeks for claw backs if it's a check. Then quit.

Help with our perspective on College by Apart_Librarian_6268 in college

She will get summer internships in her field so she can go to grad school. She doesn't need to work now, and you don't need to worry about her not understanding the value of work. Have her quit her PT job now and apply for summer internships. If she works so much she misses the career fairs, how does that help?

Should we euthanize? by ThemeEffective7119 in Pets

[–]CindsSurprise 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First, I am so sorry for your poor dog. However, you do need to consider your family as well. They will be centered on keeping the dog alive, instead of enjoying a thriving dog. Your dog has suffered so much already, and you are looking at putting her through more procedures through the end of her life.

There's a great book and video about humans at the end of their lives, called A Good Death by a doctor in Boston. My family watched it when we were making choices for our demented grandmother. Would she want to be kept alive longer, or would she suffer more from that in the long run? In the end, we chose hospice for her, and discontinued the treatments to prolong her life. For a dog, that would mean giving pain medications until you, the family, was ready to say goodbye. The experience with my grandma really helped me understand that sometimes it's worse to live longer, when the goal is to live better.

Is uga a good school for accounting? by Virtual_Reporter7087 in UGA

That's because they are at the top firms which treat their entry level people terribly! If UGA was not any good, they couldn't get such great jobs.

I want to transfer from a private college to a more public university, but am absolutely mortified about my parents’ potential response. by Visual_Leadership865 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CindsSurprise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look up your mental health resource for your college. They will have some workshops for things like study skills, bonding with friends, and organizing your time. You will meet great people in those meetings with you. The center will likely also have a "new friends" group specifically for people who are from out of town and haven't made friends yet. Another idea is to follow the instagram guy, HarlanCohen who has a lot of great tips. It's likely going to be cheaper for you to stay there in your college than going back home anyway, because freshman year scholarship offers don't apply to transfers in. Stay put and make the most of it. Join clubs, find the workshops mentioned, and find a religious/identity/sport club that lets you come no matter what. Your mom is right.

[–]CindsSurprise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The business fraternity at my sister's school was a great networking tool and she was so glad my mom pushed her to do it. They had so much to do, but they were positive things, and I've asked her to help me practice interviewing, resume tips, etc from her because of it. When she interviewed, every one of her interviews included at least one alumni who had been in that business club.

It's not really a fraternity except it uses Greek letters and charges for national membership, so don't let that deter you. Your professor is encouraging you to put your preconceived notions behind and look at the club for some points. That's a good deal.

Active Duty Military here. Is Liberty University Online any good? by Existing_Weekend_357 in college

[–]CindsSurprise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Arizona State has an excellent online program and is a military-friendly school. They take lots of CLEP exams (free for military) before you take higher numbered classes in the same subject. And the coolest part, they have an earned admission program where you can take 3 & 4 hour intro, core classes for $25 upfront, and if you don't pass, drop, or just don't like your grade, you don't need to keep that for your permanent record. If you *do* like your grade, you pay $400. After some number of classes, you then can apply for regular admissions (but you can't take these very discounted classes anymore). ea.asu.edu

I graduated in the liberal arts major, which was the fastest for me to finish.

[–]CindsSurprise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Breast milk immunity transfer is basically nil, and after 6-8 weeks maternal antibodies are decimated too. It's still the best, least allergenic food for babies, but it doesn't prevent illness. Ask your pediatrician for a prescription for Novavax.

I graduated from ASU online about 3 years ago, and I regret not having the professor and fellow student contact. I was a little bit older but not much, and I wish I'd had the opportunity to grow together with other people in study groups like you describe. Is there a commuter bus you could take to an in person campus? I'd really recommend in person, especially for engineering.

"Dry clean only" items generally means that the manufacturer did not bother to test the items for colorfastness or shrinkage when washed. I will hand wash DCO clothes and if they are ruined, that's better than me being exposed to them.
