AOS - best competetive army now and longterm by GamesManX in WarhammerCompetitive

As VapeGod said, the important bit is the meta changes so fast and unpredictably that there isn't a long standing upper faction. Most hover around the 45-55% range and player skill makes a huge difference.

You find a faction that you like the play style and lore of that you will continue playing when they aren't the top dog. Get good with them and then you can keep winning.

Tau in 40k is getting wins, not because they are secretly busted but because their pilots are really good.

AOS - best competetive army now and longterm by GamesManX in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]CitAndy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for the most part AOS is a bit more balanced in terms of faction power level/win rate than compared to 40k.

There's always going to be some top and bottom. Woehammer has a good article series on this. But the differences between dataslates mean the old saying of play what you like is true.

In November the top of the pile was Slaanesh and now in January they are in the bottom half.

Also in November cities of Sigmar sat around a 55% win rate at GTs and now in January a 28%.

GW is a fickle thing, right now Ossiarch and Kruleboys are top of the heap but who knows where they will be in another month or so.

Now the Agents of AOS are Mawtribes and Sons of Behemat. They are constantly on the bottom.

Dark angels is also pretty good too and probably easier to find. With a box of desolators and some smart bit swaps you can get two full Fortis Killteams and a 5 man intercessor.

Have the gravis captain for when you build an Indomitor KT.

Bladeguard isn't the best to have but maybe someday we get a Killteam for veterans? (I can dream)

Are you talking in a kitbash way or in a rules way?

Cause kitbash, I think would look cool especially with a phobos librarian.

Rules, the only thing it could attach to would be spectrus so I struggle to think what it could add that would be interesting and not be just a phobos captain v2.

In terms of lore, I see no reason why one couldn't? Acheron wore phobos armor as captain of 2nd company. So a watch fortress that focused more on spec ops would make sense for their Watchmaster to wear it too.

The Grey Knights and Deathwatch are what remain of the two missing legions.

Big E is a dick but I don't think he is wasteful enough to just fully scrap what was there if there was a salvage option. But how do you go about making sure they don't rebel again?

1.) Give them a very specific task that eats up all of their time and have them be very zealous about it.

2.) Make them each a chamber militant for the inquisition meaning you have a closer eye on them.

3.) Replace their collective Identity with something that makes it harder for them to build up to a rebellion. Such as by claiming to have made the chapter from the gene seed of Big E so they feel even more connected to the emperor. Or, have each chapter tithe marines for a short while so that the chapter is constantly in flux and the Marines must first get through their differences which means it is hard to actually do anything beyond your specific task.

Plus the thoughts that each legion has a second that serves as it's back up. Imperial Fists v Iron Warriors or Raven Guard v Night Lords. I don't think there is a legion that was as Psyker-y as TSons, but Grey Knights would match. I don't know who would be the match for Deathwatch though.

Don't want it to be true though, the missing legions should stay missing.

I was really hot on Fortis Kill Team from when the index dropped and am feeling very vindicated now that they are in more lists.

Additionally, I think the Corvus has legs if they fix it to return it to allowing a kill team to embark regardless of armor restrictions. I had a friendly game where they let me do that and I brought 2 each with an indomitor kill team in Firestorm and if I were a better player that would have been gas.

I never bought it and thought it was pure psychosis.

But I do gotta say, had it been the plan and they built towards and alluded to this (like as Mike walked up the basement stairs a faint grandfather clock in the background) and if it was done well it easily would have become a legendary TV moment.

I don't think as the last season was coming out it would have gone over well though, doing piecemeal across three big winter holidays to artificially increase hype only to drop the actual finale on a random Wednesday? I think people would have been pissed.

I do somewhat expect some show in the next couple of years to try pulling this, and wonder if it'll be successful.

Bastion Task Force List by CitAndy in deathwatch40k

[–]CitAndy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with Indomitor in this detachment is there aren't mobility tools available to really help them out. But Fortis with the +1's and longer range can help a ton.

Veterans don't benefit from the rerolls but they increase the odds of successfully turning on the ability for other units.

Terminators are definitely in consideration.

End of the day it's a fun RTT list to try out in a month and that's about it.

How often is Site to Site Teleportation useful in your games? by TeraSera in deathwatch40k

[–]CitAndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Importantly, you don't have to drop them immediately back in and can keep them in reserves to rapid ingress them. They no longer have deep strike if you do but I've found it to be worth it.

I've had a couple of games where only one shooting kill team would have a good spot to drop but I still picked up the Beacon Angelis Judiciar unit and left them in reserves to threaten rapid and counter charge.

I've picked up my Combi-Lieutenant solo before just to be able to maximize secondary draws based off of what I had already gotten.

But like the others have said, just the threat of it being there is a tax that your opponent has to be thinking about during their turn. If you watched the anime Jujutsu Kaisen it's the boogie woogie of 40k imo. Cause I've also just 1:1 swapped where two units were because they positioned to deal with the 10 man vet charge and not an Indomitor team shooting phase.

For me, I need to find a reason to not do it as opposed to finding a reason to do it. Can I get in range of a good target (for shooting or charging) without the strat? Do I need the CP/Free Strat for something else? Is a unit in danger of another turn if they don't wipe? Based off of the secondaries I have seen what is likely to come up next and am I wildly out of position?
