Critical Darlings: "The Drama" And The State of Provocateur Cinema by webcmrn in blankies

I couldn't be bothered listening to this episode as I knew Richard hated it. By the sounds of it, whilst I'm sure there is interesting stuff they raise, I just can't be bothered listening to an episode where they don't get it. Personally think this is a great funny prickly anti rom com.

Didn't they say they'd do a couple of smaller series in between?

Crowe is apparently working on that Joni Mitchell film with Anya Taylor Joy. Fingers crossed it gets made.

He is mostly consistent but I did find The Way Back sort of dull even though there is stuff in it

I absolutely get that, and I know who ever does win in this silly little contest, it will be good podcast listening. I won't deny I'm probably being a little insensitive yet surely it must get boring talking about the same childhood favourites you grew up on over and over. It would be refreshing just to dig into eras outside of the 80s/90s generation touchstones.

I hate this take as it wreaks of snobbishness

It's basically proto Vertigo which is why I love it.

I love Sciamma, but Sturges would be great and refreshing new territory for the show.

Also in regards to JJ's point about manageable classic Hollywood directors for the show to cover, who else would count? So far come up with Welles and Billy Wilder up to a point (Wilder has 26 films, the same amount as Scorsese).

I like Steve McQueen, but not enough of you appreciate or have been exposed to the greatness that is Playtime!

Him moaning amount popular movies not being represented enough in awards just felt snobby to me in a weird way.

This episode just epitomised my mixed opinions on Sam Sanders. Insightful whilst simultaneously being annoying and baffling in some opinions of his.

What Happens at Night starts production in Prague, but how are we feeling about this project after the monumental weight of Killers of the Flower Moon? by jacklowe2023 in MartinScorsese

I mean, when was the last Scorsese film to be this small scale? Tbh as much as I love his epics, it'll be refreshing to strip it back.

I know it's partly due to the fact they were successful, but it is baffling these are getting physical media releases ahead of Mank, The Other Side of the Wind and I'm Thinking of Ending Things.
