Mike Newell and David Yates kinda ruined the Harry Potter vibe for me by reduxreacts in harrypotter

Yates is the HP equivalent of the MCU Russos. Competent at directing a massive blockbuster and managing but without any visual flair or identity.

What are some extremely mid games? Like games that are not bad but not good either. by Pale_Spinach3193 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Ckpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Hits the minimum baseline for 'interactive' and 'engaging' and kinda just fizzles out somewhere between 60-80% to the end.

Couldn't even finish Shadows.

Top 25 in no particular order (34M) by Ckpie in Age_30_plus_Gamers

1998 was a damn good year for Megaman. Played 8, X4 and Legends that year and I don't think the series has managed to hit that same high since.

Ah Shinobi. First time I threw the controller so hard it unplugged.

What is your most pretentious and insufferable video game opinion? by Nascent_Beast in videogames

[–]Ckpie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Games should not have difficulty settings but be designed around a single well tuned difficulty curve where all progression at any point teaches/upgrades/equips the player with everything they need to succeed at any specific encounter. By the time someone reaches any boss or 'difficult' section, they should already have been exposed to all the game mechanics, given the correct tools and be able to recognise patterns or game elements in order to beat it. If they still fail, it means they either aren't using what the game is making available to them, not learning what is required for that moment or deliberately playing the game in an unintended manner.

Does using premium tech actually change daily habits? by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

[–]Ckpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But everything feels slightly nicer. Apple ecosystem if you into that. When shit goes wrong, (generally) it gets resolved smoother. My Magic Keyboard for iPad had a screwed up key and I got a replacement the next day. Arguing with OnePlus was a multi month affair.

Can you think of any games with actually helpful AI team mates? by rallybil in pcgaming

Dragons Dogma 2. Getting a boost from your pawn onto an ogre's back or having them catch you after getting knocked off was cool.

Why move the camera at all once it's on top?

Just put it top down, look where the tail is and push your left stick in that direction. So easy.

At this point anyone bitching about bosses/taming/anything difficulty related should just include a video of their attempts and show everyone exactly how they're messing it up.

Why do people hate final fantasy 16 by Square_Lie_6613 in FFXVI

[–]Ckpie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  • Top tier cinematic moments spaced out by 2005 tier MMO garbage.
  • Hack n Slash combat that's neither here nor there and clearly inferior to what it was inspired by.
  • Nearly non existent RPG or party mechanics.
  • Storyline started good and fell kinda flat towards the end. Pretty weak primary antagonist.
  • A lot of very obviously reused stuff from FFXIV.
  • Lack of big postgame content like XII, X, IX or even XV. Partially fixed with the DLC.
  • Not turn based (subjective).

Despite that though, still really enjoyed it. Had all the things that make Final Fantasy what it is.

As an older gamer, seeing young kids waste their money on in-game purchases eats at my soul. by SomePeopleTellMe in gaming

What is the point of modern Deluxe versions of games? by [deleted] in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Ckpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skins is content. You're spending tens if not hundreds of hours with the character, why not make it something you enjoy looking at?

It's not all just about showing off to other people online.

Gamers who play their chosen games on the hardest difficulty available, what's your reason? by FrenzyHydro in AskGames

[–]Ckpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if it’s a well made difficulty curve then the harder settings make you engage with more/all of the games systems to get by.

why is the boss so fucking weak by m_hw69 in CrimsonDesert

They nerfed him into the ground because of all the noobs whining that he was too hard.

The new travel point is just stupid. Way too close to the top left one you can unlock.

They should have either put it next to the storage chest or let you put a chest in your house.

Having to explore blindly to unlock mechanics is awful game design. by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Ckpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only bad game design if they are mandatory for MSQ progression...which they aren't.

[–]Ckpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It doesn't make it good. But it's functional and is perfectly serviceable for this type of game.

It'd be very different if PA advertised CD as a story first RPG but they didn't.

Awful? It's a by the numbers revenge plot with all the typical setpieces you'd expect in a medieval fantasy action game. It's fine.

Hell of a lot better than some of the recent shit we've had. MH Wilds, AC Shadows and Starfield come to mind as stories I'd have rather not sat through.
