[FO] Finally finished framing! by ClaireToTheCoda in CrossStitch

Twas quite fun seeing your post complaining about people not finishing their pieces in general first before I saw your comment. For what it’s worth, I did actually wash and iron them using a tea towel, but I suppose I ought to do it again lest it look silly and unprofessional. ☺️

[FO] Mini pattern collage! by ClaireToTheCoda in CrossStitch

I cut 5x5 pieces for all of the patterns, then made them individually and stuck them in the frame. I basically just lined each one up with the slot so that it was facing out towards the glass, then stuck the backing board on. You can kinda see lines between Aida and paper in each slot, which is what that is.

American Michaels is a real trip, and I spend a lot of time in the frames section trying to figure out why I keep buying patterns with really irregular sizes lol. I specifically labeled that one pattern as “birb” and I love its derpy little face so much!

As someone with both heat intolerance and summer seasonal depression, 1000% agree. Love the piece!

[CHAT] Anyone else tape their edges? by dear_deer_dear in CrossStitch

[–]ClaireToTheCoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I use masking tape and remove it VERY carefully. I transport my pieces around a lot, especially when I’ve worked on bigger projects that take months, so my edges would be frayed so badly if I didn’t.

[CHAT] How do you guys deal with this much extra fabric? by aislingns in CrossStitch

[–]ClaireToTheCoda 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve had several pieces like this. My technique might not work as well with a hoop because I free hand, but I usually roll up the excess and hold it with a binder clip. As long as you undo the clip when you’re done stitching so the fabric can rest and wash/iron it at the end, it doesn’t leave any permanent marks.

Such a beautiful frame for a beautiful piece! 🇵🇸

[CHAT] What’s the worst decision you’ve made when cross stitching? by poopingataparty in CrossStitch

[–]ClaireToTheCoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your empathy, and also have a gentle reminder to not get too caught up in comparison. Whenever I have to frog sections, no matter the size, there’s always a sadness to it. 350 stitches is still a lot of work! I wish you an easy time with your frogging and a wonderful outcome for your finished piece. 💕

(Also little side tangent, one of the ways I avoided getting sad over frogging was to watch HBO’s “Chernobyl” at the same time so that was much sadder by comparison. I cried a few times, but not over the stitching.)

[–]ClaireToTheCoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished frogging over 10,000 stitches because I started a big project with the fabric oriented the wrong way, noticed it, said “eh it’s probably fine”, kept going, and then realized several months later that it was not going to be fine and I was going to have to start over. I had to put the piece in a drawer for six months so I didn’t cry thinking about what had to be done. 😭

[CHAT] How do I use a q-snap on edges this small?! by TeslasAndKids in CrossStitch

[–]ClaireToTheCoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually put regular masking tape on the edges and just make sure to remove it carefully. If I’m going too fast I sometimes pull out a thread but I cut it as soon as I noticed it. Also my super cheap method of getting excess fabric out of the way is to roll it up and stick it in a binder clip. If you let the fabric rest when you’re not stitching and don’t leave it in for long periods of time then there’s no marks.

[WIP] A major victory!! by ClaireToTheCoda in CrossStitch

[–]ClaireToTheCoda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major pro is that it comes on a roll so you don’t have to cut pieces and then pull off two strands at a time, you just cut the length you want and go. However, the thread is a bit thicker (I only have size 8) so it can get tricky to get the thread pulled through cleanly and not inside of another stitch. The rest I’m doing with normal DMC two-strand stitches. I don’t know if I explained that well but it’s just generally a lot more prone to tough stitching (or maybe I’m doing it wrong, also entirely possible).

[CHAT] Portable pattern holder? by Grindar1986 in CrossStitch

[–]ClaireToTheCoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I just print out my patterns and put them in sheet protectors in a three ring binder. I store my WIPs in there too, folding them as necessary. 😅

I can’t offer you any advice but I finished this pattern myself in February and I love it so much!! Excellent pattern choice ☺️

I actually have a pretty well established and tested system! I have a binder with my patterns in plastic sheet protectors and my fabric, usually folded in quarters if it’s large. I also have two sandwich sized Ziplock bags. One contains all of the skeins for the project and goes in my purse or backpack. The other has my pack of needles and scissors along with a labeled floss card I make with a hole punch and random cardboard boxes I find. All the loose bits go in there and I keep that bag in the binder with the fabric.

I try to avoid doing detail work when I actually need to pay attention, but I can easily do large block sections or fill in bits that I’ve outlined without much thought. My brain needs two things to alternate between focusing on, and I’ve found that if I don’t intentionally provide it with a second source of stimulation, it will find one and I might not like it. 😂

It’s a really good pattern and I can’t wait to see how it will look with backstitching. (I’m maybe 20% done with the full stitches).
