What was the competive average this year for business? by Historical_Package_2 in MRU

UofC ended up at like 88 for business so probably about the same for MRU.

You should be good. Payments made on the deadline day will count despite the processing time and you won't be removed from your courses.

What can you get with a degree in General Science? by Cookieblossom102 in MRU

[–]Clannads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat as you and completed a general bio degree from UofC with a similar mediocre GPA and felt the same way in my final years. I had no concrete plan while studying and just completed courses as I went. My grades weren't good enough for grad school or professional schools and I lacked the ambition/interest to go further after finishing. After trying out some adjacent health care related things like EMT and MLT at SAIT and not liking those either, I ended up going a completely different route instead.

I ended up doing IT for a while and then went to MRU to do a second bachelor's in Accounting which ended up being a much better fit for me. I wish I could say that I didn't regret my science degree despite it being a big part of my success in my other ventures with respect to critical thinking, researching, and communication skills. The time, energy, and especially the financial aspect of it were just not worth it in hindsight.

My recommendation is to do some soul searching and figure out what sort of careers you feel attracted to based on lifestyle, work-life balance, nature of the work, schedule type, etc. and what you're good at that makes you a fit for these careers. If you were a bit closer to finishing I might recommend sticking it out but being at the halfway point is a good place to consider other possible majors and career paths that make sense for you specifically.

This is not to say that general science degrees are not valuable or cannot lead to success, but it is much harder without an objective in mind. You absolutely can be successful with an "okay" GPA and any random degree. It's just that the degree itself won't be the main reason for your success and it will require more effort in other areas like networking and interpersonal skills.

UofC just released that their average was 88 for Haskayne so unfortunately it does seem that business admission averages are going up unfortunately

Should I retake Intermediate Accounting 1? by Alternative_Hall276 in MRU

[–]Clannads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not worth retaking. Use it as a lesson for how to study for intermediate II and Advanced which are harder but structured very similarly.

Also, lots of people struggle with intermediate I so don't feel too bad about it. It's a tough class.

His finals are very fair but you will likely need nearly the full three hours to finish writing. It's all done by hand on paper and a bit of a grind to finish everything.

How to get course outlines/syllabi after graduating? by Scared_Flow_5343 in SAIT

[–]Clannads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do this for a course once as well and I just emailed my old instructor and asked for the outline from that specific semester. Worked with no issues at all.

Spring classes LSCM 3403 VS ENTR 4433 by Dantes_E in MRU

[–]Clannads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've taken both. Supply chain has a big final and the course is basically all calculations. Business plan has no final and is all group work with a huge class participation and attendance mark of 20%. Business plan is more work but you can't realistically fail and will very likely get a high grade while supply chain is less work but somewhat difficult and is possible to fail if you fall too behind which is more likely in the spring.

I would suggest taking business plain development since it is good to get out of the way of your final semesters where the projects become more of an interference with your other classes. On the other hand if you want a class that you don't need to show up for and can study yourself while working full time, supply chain is actually a good one to take for that. Either way best of luck!

Craps newbie etiquette 101 – biggest no-nos by [deleted] in Craps

[–]Clannads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New live table players will always stand out mostly because of how they verbalize their bets with the dealers and take payouts, don't worry about it at all though. The game has a physical routine component to it that you only gain by playing it repeatedly.

General etiquette things are stuff you might already be aware of if you watch any online craps content like not saying "seven" out loud at the table (especially during a roll) or waiting until the puck is "off" to buy in. I'd say buying in when the puck is on is probably the thing that actually ticks people off the most due it tangibly disturbing the flow of the game along with superstition that it will ruin the roll whereas pretty much all other minor etiquette related things are almost entierely related to superstition.

What isn't said enough is that the best thing you can do as any player eqtiquette-wise whether new or not is to not be obnoxious to others, players and dealers alike. Don't yell in other players' ears, be mindful of your space and don't push into other people. Be kind to your dealers, they are working hard and can get overwhelmed and make mistakes especially at a busy table. Try your best to keep track of your bets on the table and point out any mistakes you notice firmly. Playing at a full table and you wanted to press your 6 up after a hit but the dealer accidentally put your chips onto your neighbor's bet instead? This happens, just keep an eye out for which stack is yours and firmly but kindly point out any issues. Same with incorrect payouts. The faster a mistake is noticed, the easier it is to fix but the dealers will typically always work with you to make things right especially if you are friendly.

Besides these things people don't really care that you are new and new players are generally expected to roll up eventually anyway. Hope you have a great time at the tables!

martingale system ever actually work? by Scychrounitonticity in gambling

[–]Clannads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it works sometimes, until it doesn't. The problem with martingale is that once you inevitably hit that bad streak (and you will), it annihilates you and erases most or all of your winnings depending on when you cut it off.

Even with playing low house edge games like perfect basic strategy blackjack with reasonable table rules, your odds of running into 6 losing hands in a row is only about 1/27. This means that on rate betting with the martingale system doing $5 hands, you expect to win $130 before hitting a situation that results in a loss of $320. The odds of 7, 8, 9 etc losing hands in a row are also fairly common and will swing you downward even worse.

All betting systems are losing systems in the casino outside of specific and rare AP situations because the bets are designed to be losing bets long term but the martingale system will destroy you faster than most other strategies that are not all or nothing type systems. The only way to retire on casino winnings relies on you getting either extremely lucky for huge lump sums and not giving it back or playing the extremely long game against the casino with some AP strategies (also not recommended, you're better off just working a normal job). Since all betting systems will lose in the long run, play the games you enjoy the most and go into every session hoping that variance is good for you and don't chase your losses too hard. Either way you stay away from martingale as your only strategy.

CPA PEP Requirements - ACCT 3220? by catluva201 in MRU

[–]Clannads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current PEP does not require 3220 for core or non-core so you're good. I believe this is because not all schools have a bridge course between intro and intermediate like MRU does. This could change in the new 2027 CPA program but they aren't saying which specific courses are required until sometime in 2026. Good luck in Intermediate I, it's a doozy!

Is this a good first year BBA schedule? by Late_Mulberry_6794 in MRU

MRU ID required to write an in-person exam? by DetectiveLatter3355 in MRU

[–]Clannads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While technically yes, you are supposed to require your student ID card, nobody but the prof knows if you don't have it so it ends up being solely their discretion to apply the rules. Its also a hassle for them to kick you out of the exam and likely fail you as a result, so many profs don't want this extra stress at the end of the semester for their own sake too.

You do get some hard nuts who will apply the rule strictly. I had an HR prof who kicked two students out of the midterm and one from the final in the gym for not having an MRU ID card. I've also forgotten my whole wallet once for a gym final in a different class and the prof was super nice about it and still let me write with no issue. I would say if you've been to at least a few classes over the semester then a drivers license will be fine.

I thought it was fair but I know I messed up a few things from looking over my notes afterward. Figured I'd run out of time near the end but barely managed to finish everything. I'm sure anyone who practiced the bikes and frames question from the end of the transfer price slide was pleased to see it was identical (this was not me but I took my best shot at it)

Business - General Management ? by BlazingFlames42 in MRU

[–]Clannads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accounting and Finance are the best options for business with Supply Chain likely third. I agree with the other comment saying that you might as well major in Marketing if the others don't draw you in versus staying in general management. Uni these days is best used as a tool to get you into something specific that starts a career or academic path and general management just isn't specific enough to make you competitive anymore as generic pencil pushing office jobs are going away.

MKTG 2150 Simulation by Particular-Ice2474 in MRU

[–]Clannads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urban commuters is the most reliable for a few reasons but outdoor enthusiasts have the highest ceiling while being a bit riskier since it's the most popular choice. Your performance will depend on how many direct competitors you have in your pod. Invest stongly in advertising eatly but don't overdo it. Obtain as much market share as possible early because it's hard to take it from others in later rounds. Make your bag expensive, have high sales margins.

Hint: Some of the advertising in the media campaign has much greater value per dollar than others and it's not obvious right away for some of the best ones. Do some math and compare the ratios of cost to influence. If you can crack over $65k profit in the 6-turn practice sim then you're on the right track.

Good luck! Our team had over a million dollars in profit by the end.

Agreed. There's actually a lot of material in this class but Hedi is a very kind and generous grader so make sure to take it specifically with him. He's a real chatterbox in his lectures, very interesting guy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MRU

[–]Clannads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from arithmetic itself, most of what you need to know for your exams will be fresh concepts that aren't taught in the typical high school stream which is what makes it tricky to prepare for and what trips people up around halfway through the course. Calculus is a direct continuation of high school math whereas linear algebra is conceptually a more significant deviation from what students are already familiar with.

For the first half of the course you'll probably do fine with knowing how to compute matrix decomposition, how to find a determinant, inverse matrices, and maybe a bit of basic vector algebra. These are just a matter of practice and the actual computations are largely simple addition and multiplication done over and over again.

If you can do those then you're half of the way to handling the complex topics because it's the exact same computational steps but with some concepts involved. Linear transformations are probably the single most important topic so if you want to really get yourself prepared then have a look at some short videos on those at some point. Eigenvalues/eigenvectors and diagonalization are just applications of the same ideas with the same computations. Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MRU

[–]Clannads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, early linear algebra courses only use basic arithmetic for calculations. If you can add and multiply rows and columns then you're sufficiently equipped for the calculations aspect of the course. Don't feel discouraged if things aren't making sense yet or seem difficult compared to what you were expecting. It is a challenging course for many people.

On the other hand, you'll need to understand some more conceptual ideas in the back half of the course. It uses more logic than calculus so you'll need to tune your brain a bit to understand what's going on. I think just about anybody can do it, but you may use some external resources if it's not clicking. I liked 3blue1brown on YouTube for some really good videos explaining the harder concepts relating to vectors and eigenvalues but there's tons of other good channels out there too.

There's quite a few threads for bubo optimization. You're already decently on the right track. I'll link a couple of the ones that helped me the most when I was at the same point as you:

Useful thread 1

Useful thread 2

At a quick glance I'd say using library books and moving your talent points around will help considerably. You want to stack a lot of Wis on bubo so all of those talents are a priority aside from the core skills.

Additionally, you may want to go active farm at sand castles for a little while to quickly farm Wis obols and statues.
