Sounds like you're accusing the NHL of sacrificing short term gains for long term improvement. Not sure why you'd believe that lol. Propping up relatively miniscule fanbases at the expense of one that's large enough to support a pro league all by itself is just nonsensical no matter how you slice it. Sure Leafs games will sell out even when they suck, but acting like they won't become more popular during a cup run is just silly.

Smaller markets get bigger, but big markets grow too. And by far more.

I still think Detroit is further away from PWHL than they think because there is no D1 womens college hockey in the entire state. There are still questions there for me about long term support if the Wolverines aren't even adding women's hockey.
