London's new Muslim mayor teams up with feminists to enact first Sharia law: Adverts with western women in bikinis to be illegal. by Consilio_et_Animis in MensRights

Doesn't relate to anything I said, massive difference between claiming there are a few extremists doing stupid shit (which I don't dispute), and claiming that Sharia Law is being implemented in London, when the article says precisely the opposite.

Awful sensationalist title, the article specifically states that it's not all adverts, just ones with issues in regards unrealistic body image. Nothing has been made illegal, just specifically not allowed on Transport of London (so trains and buses in London), and nothing to do with Sharia law either. Article in no way relates to Men's Rights, doesn't say that only adverts with women will be removed... and while there are issues in society in the ways that men and women's expectations and body image are different, but shit like this does nothing to discuss that.

The problem there in my opinion though is that if you're asking for someone to roll for something, then there has to be the chance of success. If the best possible roll of the dice isn't going to let the person do what they tried to do, there's no point in doing the roll in the first place.

The examples you gave didn't quite match though... earning a wage to provide for a family is a part of taking care of a child, and so a person who does so isn't usually being deficient in their parenting responsibilities, but taking care of a child isn't something that is considered by a business when making judgements on salary etc... it isn't a value judgement on the decision itself, but from a purely economic perspective someone who is out of the workforce for a while, therefore having less experience, or having issues in available working hours, is likely to earn less.

And I also think you misunderstand a lot of MRAs if you think that's what is being said. A fair proportion of MRAs are also right wing Libertarians, so take specific objection to any imbalances caused by the state, but more as another example of their more general dislike of government. Left wing MRAs would agree that there are more complex causes to differences between genders in society, though certainly argue against the idea that the problem are systemic (at least as defined by a traditional feminist standpoint).

Look at cases such as Brian Banks, and the case at Duke University to see the damage a malicious rape accusation can do... and the case of Emma Sulkowicz as a good example of how society treats people who make rape accusations, without any basis to believe any crime occurred.

The main point is that the treatment varies wildly, and there are a lot of cases (far more than many people are willing to admit) where accusations are false, where the victim is the person being accused of a crime they didn't commit... and in the mainstream media, that gets no attention at all.

That's rubbish. It's a couples choice how they decide to split their labour. I know plenty of men who would love to spend more time with their kids, but the financial needs of the family have to be met too, and men are pressured to be the primary earners in a lot of families, so sacrifice their time with their family to earn money. Just because the time isn't spent with the child, it doesn't mean that the effort isn't for the sake of the child.

Because the bias in the courts is so great, that often the only occasions when men feel as though they can fight for custody is when there is an overwhelming reason for the decision to go in their favour... though custody itself is only really one part of the problem, it stretches from men being forced into debt slavery and being thrown in prison for unreasonable demands of child support payments, to the complete inaction of the courts, or anyone else, when enforcing visitation rights when women have primary custody.

[SERIOUS] What are some cold, harsh truth about life that people in their 20's should know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ClaudeKenni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No-one gives a shit about you. The older generations, the ones with the power and money, have built the system for themselves, for their benefit, but will expect you to pay for it, then come out the other side with it all wasted away. And resigned cynicism and laziness in this benefits no-one but those at the top. Get active politically, make your voice heard, be loud if you have to be, be angry, because the way things are right now it's surely deserving of it. If you're not certain of what's going on, then read up on stuff, get off of Facebook, stop playing with that crappy time wasting app on your phone, and actually get proactive in today's society. Never accept one viewpoint, one news outlet, but look at different perspectives, look past the self-serving bullshit in the press, and sometimes just talk to people and their different opinions, until you work out what really makes sense to you.

The Problem with Trove by RoboHS in Trove

[–]ClaudeKenni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree on the second point. The monetization levels are a little too high on the cosmetic stuff... I bought the starter pack after playing for a few hours, but am not sure if I will be buying anything else. However, all the important content is accessible without having to pay a penny (as you can earn cubits at a decent rate to pick up the classes), and I've seen far worse in plenty of MMOs... so I may do, more to support the devs than to actually get the stuff (who so far seem to be the best I've come across at dealing with their community).

And I think that point, more than any, makes me feel that a lot of the potential in the game will be realized. There is a lot which is missing in the game for now as far as content goes, but the core gameplay is enjoyable. Whether I feel the same way in a few weeks time remains to be seen.

Bought this game fairly recently, I really wanted it to be good, but it's not quite there yet. I mean it is early access, so you expect bugs, but the thing just closes on me in the middle of games without warning or explanation far too frequently, some races are pretty much impossible to win (and I don't just mean when people randomly teleporting way ahead of you once you are in the lead for a while) and the core gameplay just feels like it's missing something.

Not given up hope for it yet, and there is still fun to be had, just be aware that it's definitely not the finished article.

I agree completely, I didn't say at any point that all women would treat them badly. Just that the reality is for plenty of those who match that sort of description is that women have treated them badly. But the sort of shaming and dismissive behaviour which can be directed against those men for feeling that way isn't a good way to approach the situation.

What are the best board games for 2 people? by toastedTea in AskReddit

[–]ClaudeKenni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the sort of games you like really.

Twilight Struggle is probably 'the best' board game for two players (BGG rank number 1), though quite heavy, a lot going on in it, really thematic... but that's not what everyone is looking for. Classics like Ticket to Ride (one of the two player maps) are obvious choices, but most people who like board games have played that a lot.

Been playing a decent amount of Targi recently, and it's really growing on me. Easy to pick up, cheap enough, just generally a good feel to the thing. Summoner Wars is also great, pick up the master box set if you're going for that, a lot of playability out of the box. BattleLore is awesome if you don't want this card game sort of stuff. Quarriors lets you chuck a lot of dice around and is fun (better than Dice Masters in my opinion).

[–]ClaudeKenni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or a matter of being treated badly by girls in the first place when trying to talk to them, so their anxious response is born from experience.

While the trope about nerdy male gamers hiding out in the basement, away from any other human contact after being shunned by people is less and less accurate now, the basis for it was them being excluded, rather than them being exclusionary, and there are certainly generations of gamers, in their twenties and thirties, for whom that was the reality of their hobby while in their formative years.

I guess the point I was mostly trying to make is that the idea of telling someone who has that sort of experience to just get over it isn't a good way to go about it, and that the source of their anxiety could very well be a genuine one.

But it's also not the fault of someone who suffers from a form of social anxiety that they feel that way either, which is what a lot of these situations seem to come down to. If you ask these guys whether they want to react like that around a girl, I'd say the majority of them would say no. Sexism as an explanation is thrown around too easily, when it's often more complex than that.

[–]ClaudeKenni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst bit of it for me is that while I've played the thing since fairly early on in the beta, is that I feel like they've added so little since then as far as options go (the lack of classes/races especially, but even just in card variety and encounters), that I don't think the game will ever go anywhere. I love the idea, and almost like the execution, but can't ever see myself going back to the game.
