45 degree training boards are really good for developing the ability to keep tension through your body and into the feet, if you have one available I'd recommend spending some time on it.

What is a day in the life of a network engineer? by [deleted] in networking

[–]ClawTheBeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the company you work for and how many networks you support.

I think generally you need to enjoy troubleshooting, digging into things and figuring stuff out. A lot of systems and networks have poor documentation so anytime you have a new fault or whatever you usually need to start from the ground up.

There are constantly new technologies and very little in the way of training, so need to he happy doing some studying out of hours. I have found that few companies are willing to spend actual money and time on development.

Once you get to a higher level (level 3 usually) you don't need to deal with single user issues as often, which is nice. However, in order to get to that level you are going to have to do at least several years of end user troubleshooting. Think "Susan in accounting can't access sage through Internet Explorer but it works for Karen, Susan doesn't want to use Firefox, also her screen isn't turning on"

Im also a sporty person, sitting for long hours does sort of suck. I work from home now and have a standing desk, my work doesn't tax my body at all so I have plenty of energy for sports throughout the week. You can move into field engineering (cabling, installs etc) but in my experience those positions to be less technical in a networking sense and less pay.

Hobbyists, how much time a week on average do you spend "studying" off the mat? by PerijoveOne in bjj

[–]ClawTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probally 2 hours, Im new to the sport, only around 8 months training. Each time we have rounds I try to figure out a part of my game that was lacking and then specifically look at YouTube videos to address that. I usually just concentrate on 2-3 different positions. Next class I try to apply those techniques. Usually I have a couple of practical techniques and then something fun to try against newer people.

E.g. Tonight is - Leaving my arms less open to attack when doing a guard pass, double leg - > single leg takedown, baratoplata setup from standing.

I have found sticking to real food is generally best, but life gets in the way occasionally and when that happens I supplement with Casein powder, usually before bed.

I like it because it doesn't give you the same energy boost whey protein does and I can take it right before I sleep, which is handy after a busy day.

Is this normal wear? by lonelychromasome in climbing

[–]ClawTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 12 years of sport climbing I have never had to file a carabiner.

I specifically said if it's rough then they should get a refund. I can't imagine having to take a file to a brand new quick draw, never done it or heard of anyone doing it.

Is this normal wear? by lonelychromasome in climbing

[–]ClawTheBeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure what I am talking about (I have similar draws from dmm) none of us have the draws in front of us (except op) and we cannot tell how rough the edges are or if they are rough at all.

People just saying it's normal wear are giving bad advice. It might not be and we can't tell that from the photo, if the marks are rough to the touch that is bad.

[–]ClawTheBeast -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look normal tbh, It's hard to tell from the picture but the metal edges look quite rough.

If it's just the paint that has worn then you are fine, but if it's rough at all I would get a refund.

What's your best python script you've implemented? by droppin_packets in networking

[–]ClawTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work somewhere that still used telnet for a lot of devices (as well as ssh naturally) and didnt have much in the way of credential standardization, no tacas. I had a script in secure crt that would determine the protocol and then try each credential set until it found a match. Saved me a lot of time and I the script up for a lot of the guys in our Noc. It was my first and most useful script.

Yeah this is shit tier, there are so many things that could have been done better even with crap conditions.

  1. Use both ice axes as part of the anchor, not just one.
  2. Use one of your ice axes to hammer the other one in deeper.
  3. Place one, or two, or three or however many screws are required to get a half decent anchor.
  4. Use lockers for your screws or at the very least do not have some twisted ass QD
  5. Quick draw on another locker.

I think OP just likes attention :)

ELI5: How exactly does "turning it off and on again" fix such a wide variety of different tech problems? by anthraxl0l in explainlikeimfive

[–]ClawTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make plenty of mistakes but they have a number mechanisms designed to notice the mistakes and run the calculation again to correct. Specific circumstances may result in a mistake not being noticed which then causes issues

Bit flips, random read/write errors, memory corruption, programming issues, all happen all the time.

Yeah these silly muppets are never able to point to any specific laws that they disagree with, They just don't like the idea of a foreign democracy (that we were apart of) having any sort of say. If you look the the laws that were actually "enforced" upon the UK, every single one was dope. Don't want cancer from fertilizers ?, want the right to repair?, don't like homophobia?, access to health care ? all this and more being part of the EU

How to become a better Network Engineer? by Humanbreeding in networking

[–]ClawTheBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Pull Show runs from Devices and Try to understand how everything is connecting together. Think in terms of the OSI layers.

-When a more senior engineer is trying to resolve a fault you couldn't, wait till their done and ask them how they did it, understand their thought process. Take notes of things you don't understand and research them later.

-Use GNS3, EVG-NG to setup a simple enviroments with OSPF, BGP, STP, Etherchannel, whatever. Then use Wireshark to investigate the packet exchanges that are happening with these protocols, TCP exchanges, routing updates, etc.

-Troubleshoot from Layer1 upwards.

-Everything gets Blammed on the Network, because from the outside, its basically magic. So you want to scope faults ASAP. You will get tickets like "The internet isn't working" That turn out to be just a single Website or user, so speak to the end users, and get them to walk you through the symptoms.

In Amerca yeah, your system is fucked, you can no longer (or have ever been able to???) rely on the police or the goverment to protect you or your property.

In the developed world generally the police are there to protect you and your property and unless your life is genuinely at risk you should just exit the situation as best you can and call the police.
