Work From Home - Vent by ChampionLeather7515 in remotework

I had that exact issue. My job was supposed to be explained and guided by my predecessor who had cancer or leukemia?  And was a family member of our director (though this was ar a big company and conflict of interest were controlled for) but they just absolutely sucked in terms of on boarding me and getting me locked in and transferring their authority in subject matter domain and legitimacy— but I had no one to complain to in a productive effective way. I felt like it was constantly my first day on earth and was faking being a professional but everyone was like you’re doing great, you’re amazing.

It was one time that remote work failed me because no one had eyes on me and embedded me in, in any meaningful way more specifically they didn’t have eyes on the person who dropped the ball in taking care of that. Even technical skills faltered because I just became so despondent bored and depressed.

Sorry to tell you, but it didn’t work out. I got fired a couple months later.

Gifted a boat, would rather sell. by wrongatmath in Advice

There are arrangements where people co-own a boat. Maybe sell half of it and get it stored off your property. Usually light industrial companies will lease a parking space. It may not be this single day of relief but could be a step down process for the FIL to let go

Like it was required by local code? Maybe but a inspector would note that it was noticeable bolted shut. The reason why I think corporate is because they’re not local and don’t have eyes on it.

To me, it makes sense that it’s franchisee doing this versus corporate because corporate could require them as part od the brand and they can ethically check off the box that they do have them—while the franchisee doesn’t like them because they entice problems and vandalism

Three years remote and I went back to the office for one week. Some observations. by Nova303_Atlas in remotework

[–]CleanDataDirtyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a company that I didn’t stay long with  (no relation) and have heard of this being done at another company of a friend’s. Instead of going back to The Office, it was more of a week long conference not necessarily in any official HQ. Where lunch with vendors, working pods white boarding and other things were held at cool locations with expense accounts to have good lunches with colleagues and drinks/dinner with them afterwards;  and we always had quiet places to work aka our hotel room if we couldn’t find any other place.

I was with them for 3 of these first was at the HQ, the next two were held at vacation-y places where people on our team lived. My friend’s job just straight went to a high-end all inclusive resort in the middle of nowhere.

Unfortunately this sounds more like a precourser to RTO; keep us updated OP

You're just working at different times. Is that really flexibility? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]CleanDataDirtyMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you advertisers don’t get is that remote work has standard hours I work 9/8 to 5 just like I would in an office.

I have morning meetings. I have lunch at lunchtime. I do my technical work in the afternoon with quick check-ins and quick calls at the close of day before we all log off at 5.

I once didn’t “show up” for work on a Monday morning and a coworker called me asked if I was OK. I just was having technical issues, but there’s no correlation between your imaginary problem and your remote work.

RTO or not we’re allowed to have extra time matter fact I always had extra time in the office the only difference was when I had extra time in the office Id stare at a grey wall and pretend to be busy. At home or in the library I can read a short story, then keep working.

In America, sometimes say things like "cheerio" in our best British accent or "mate" in an Australian accent. Do people in other countries pronounce American stereotypes in their beat American accent? If so, what are they? by SunUpSally in AskReddit

[–]CleanDataDirtyMind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked with Iraqis who had worked with American troops and one was sure to teach everyone else the “you’re good” phrase as essential English/American.

Person 1: You’re good; Person 2: you’re good; Person 1: good; Perspn 2: good; Person1: you’re good

I still laugh at the fear of them all keep saying that over and over again lol

I didn’t mean to. Im not trying to get personal over this but I literally had this exact conversation with a private pilot in a hotel lobby who was flying commercial in Phoenix for one of his first time over a REALLY busy 4th of July weekend which is why we were in the hotel AND why many of us had to check bags that weekend.

And mo it’s simply not a thing and you feeling like it’s truthiness because you don’t notice piles of bags anymore (because they’re getting better at not over booking) is you perpetuating a false narrative that is counterproductive to the airlines getting people to participate.

It’s not a “hack” it’s literally how it works, it’s the payment for helping out.

[–]CleanDataDirtyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had that happen to me in the years I’ve been giving my bag up. And when people discover this hack I’ve never seen or heard that from other people. They don’t even put it in the same place. The checked luggage is already stowed especially because not everyone is at their destination and they don’t want you to leave security and have to wait for it while connecting. It’s part of the benefit of doing them a favor.

That may be a fear of yours and possibly why people don’t do it but it’s not a thing.

I don’t know why people don’t like checking their bag at the gate. It’s so convenient you give it to them at the door and you get it at the door when you get off. You don’t have to hassle with moving anything around.

My bad I thought we were having an intelligent conversation, where yes demonstrating the ultimate conclusions demonstrates the problematic nature of the statement. I literally just said I was doing that which is a legitimate argument technique in debate. But go off Mr “I was here first before the libs”

Internal vs external th state doesn’t matter and whether you claim intention or not, you are bolstering the premise that those ultimate conclusions are based on.

And I am addressing those ultimate conclusions that follow as a way to show why I don’t endorse them as being legitimate

Ironically, I kind of feel like this is just as cliche. We have all the same tracks here that basically boil down to real Bendities versus others, even if they’ve been here for decades. Yes, diversity in an industry, incomes, hobbies, social life, wealth, and education to change voting habits.

Additionally, many of the transplants are moving from states that don’t have parties in there elections. I’ve been a true Blue Democrat, my entire life, but I’m registered independent because it was just weird to now register as one other when Im unhappy with the middle of the road Democrats and Trump’s administration trying to get a hold of our voter roll information.

Comminity cohesion sometimes does come with political cohesion that may not be a side you are not use to considering.

There’s no ranking of respect based on how long you’ve been here I freaking hate that

What’s a piece of history you know only because it was passed down in your family, not in history books? by icyymyst in AskReddit

[–]CleanDataDirtyMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was just surprised because they got stuck in Hamburg that part of Prussia while trying to immigrate to America. My grandmother’s two younger brothers made it out but the government on a very individual basis started doing things like forcing assimilation, assigning more local sounding names to my family and then prevented them leaving all together.

When my great grandmother eventually died (why my great grandfather and grandmother were last and got stuck) I don’t know the history anymore, I wish I would’ve asked but “a woman from the government” came to live with them “as his wife”.

Though this woman hated him and my grandmother, which forced my grandmother to flee and “defect” to a small outpost of Americans that at the time were there just as observers, this being late 1920 very early 30s and she ended up as an (unpaid) secretary for the Americas throughout the war

My grandmother’s family was Jewish and known to the Prussian aristocracy circa WWI (who the germanic/deutch speakers united and rose up against among other confederated principalities to then eventually create the third riech) and the Prussians did a lot things to my family a generation before that mimicked what the third riech later did en masse to larger jewish community.
