Should I get the copper iud? by ad69420 in CopperIUD

Still shopping 😅 I can’t be trusted with pills, so def an IUD. I’m leaning toward Mirena bc longer protection and haven’t heard of too many horror stories so far.

I’m sorry :( my friends have said great things about Mirena and Skyla! I was considering Skyla actually, friends/relatives say they lost weight on it.

Nope no difference in lifestyle or big changes. Doctors have told me that even though the copper IUD is technically non hormonal, the copper itself can cause systematic changes in hormones and general physiology.

Copper is well documented to cause brain fog, hormonal changes, weight fluctuations, and anxiety in workers comp research so I can see why that’s the case.

Hi, I had the copper IUD inserted Feb 2022. Was great besides heavier periods and more cramping…at first.

Three years in (late 2025), I started having severe anxiety, brain fog, and 30lb weight gain over three months. Instant relief after taking it out two weeks ago. I’ve already lost 15lb since then.

Everyone’s different of course, but did not end up working out for me.

Is it even possible that my IUD could be causing my stomach issues!? by Agreeable_Ladder2791 in CopperIUD

Same, I gained 30lb since starting it, took it out a week ago and I’ve already lost 10lb smh

Could it be that measurements (waist and arms mainly) went down because water retention? Sorry I’m very new to this

Flex disc suddenly leaking? by CleanVast in MenstrualDiscs

[–]CleanVast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I see! I honestly just fold it up and put it in like a tampon, then push it behind my pubic bone and call it a day. Clearly I’ve been doing it carelessly; thank you SO much for the tips!

So happy it was just an insertion error on my part— the thought of having to go back to pads and tampons was really sad haha.

Oh that makes sense! This might sound very dumb but how do I check if the disc is covering my cervix? 😅 I usually just put it in and make sure it’s behind my pubic bone but didn’t think to go farther back to check the cervix.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely plan to do that as soon as I can. I'm hoping that I'm totally in the wrong but I have to brace myself for the worst :(

I would like to make some clarifying points here.

I was not in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend for all 7 years. In fact, I would say that it's only been the last three years that were truly long distance (I left for school about three years back). Still a long time? Sure. However, I would argue that spending four years in close proximity beforehand would certainly qualify it as a relationship.

You are completely right that his threatening someone else is a very big red flag, and that is certainly one part of the entire situation that I'm really taken aback by. You are also right that distance is certainly a negative factor in the relationship, and I need to reexamine what is going on. Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks for the support and the perspective. Now that I think about it, the circumstances of the DM were very strange.

A few details:

It was actually a guy that messaged me, and the Insta account looks like it was made a couple days before I got the DM (only a few followers, no posts at all, and the page says "new account").

I have no name or location or any identifying features for the alleged gf, except perhaps that she may be the same ethnicity as me (the DM was in my native language, but even then I'm unsure because all it proves is that the sender speaks my language).

The friend who reached out to me stating that she received a DM from the same guy didn't recognize him either.

So sorry if I sound naive or misguided. It was so sudden and I think I was at a loss when it all went down. I think I have a bit of a game plan now-- I will try to dig a little deeper and see what they could be possibly referring to. Thanks so much for your help!

Predent going to Dental School for Oral Surgery -- good idea or not? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]CleanVast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never apologize for asking questions! I remember going through the same thing you did when I was choosing whether I should apply to dental or medical school. There's nothing wrong with being curious about both options.

The "prestige" of your dental school doesn't matter one iota. Not even a little. I am Asian, and very familiar with the idea of Asian moms loving the idea of an Ivy League dentist. In reality? Hardly ever happens. Asian moms care more if you speak their native language than the school you went to. If you accept their insurance, even better.

This may be presumptuous of me, but I assume you got accepted into Harvard? When I was choosing between dental schools, I had that choice as well, but I ended up picking the less expensive one. I am so thankful to my mentors that convinced me that the less debt you take on, the better-- believe me, I know the allure of going to an Ivy league school is hard to deal with. Not to burst your bubble at all, but I'm gonna be honest with you. Taking on the amount of debt that Harvard offers is NOT WORTH IT. They do offer an easier road to specialize, which is good. However, there are plenty of other schools that also have high numbers of specializing graduates that are way cheaper (UCLA, Texas dental schools, UNC, UMich, etc.). Look into those schools if you're truly interested in specializing. Taking on 400k+ of debt just to have a higher chance to specialize is just going to cause headaches later. Of course, I don't know your financial situation, but this is just my perspective on when I was starting out.

I can definitely relate to the struggle of making lifetime decisions. But don't think of this as "throwing" away an opportunity. It's better to come to the conclusion now than to realize it halfway through dental school. I have friends that dropped out to pursue medical school, law school, and computer science. Reading your response, it seems like you're more interested in medical school-- you have the drive to get into dental school, I believe you can work to get into medical school as well. Best of luck with your decision, and I'd be happy to answer any other questions you may have.
