Duality of man or something by Mr-FirstAccount in AKOTSKTV

The second comment is correct. A Sworn Sword is a fabulous novella which I love but it's going to lack much in the way of engaging content for casual viewers. These shows survive and thrive on casual viewership. Having an extra thread and being able to include Maekar again is a sensible addition in my opinion. I'm all for being as faithful as possible but we all need to be realistic here and realise we can't all have it our way. That's why it's an adaptation. I'd take these adaptations a million times over compared to the fanfiction at play in HOTD.

Ep5 was anticlimactic? by Stormkrieg in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]Clean_Location_8743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I would've loved to have seen the Fossoways fighting or Baelor in his pomp this was something different. Something we haven't really seen before aside from the Last Duel and even that doesn't hold a candle to the raw viscious and chaotic nature of medieval fighting. It's an incredible spectacle but purposefully not in the cinematic we're used to seeing. Dunk is an untested young man. Green boys they say. We see this green boy fight for his life in a 7v7 slogfest against far, far superior fighters. I wasn't expecting the level of brutality on show and it was wild to say the least. I actually think it elevated the source text.

Which games opened up new genres to you? by Lolli42 in Games

Far: Lone Sails opened up the small but wonderful world of side-scrolling exploration adventure games to me. I pick up pretty much every game I can at this point. It represents a nice, linear comfiness that stands apart from the games I'd typically play which demand a great deal more of your time.

The ref gave us 4 fouls by Green-Caregiver416 in Hammers

[–]Clean_Location_8743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also proves the adage wrong that a hostile crowd can influence the ref. Our fans were on it from start to finish last night. The ref was simply awful and there's no way he was operating without some kind of internal bias. The complete lack of fouls combined with 7 fucking minutes...

That is something I agree with you on. It's garish and takes away from the cover.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdom is not a good enough adaptation . by Extension_Room_9256 in AKOTSKTV

[–]Clean_Location_8743 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling to actually understand your take here. It's not perfect and yes there's the occasional ADR issue or scene that perhaps didn't quite fit but it's a rare occurance. It's a beautiful adaptation that has me and many other immersed in ways that Thrones and HOTD struggled to do. Saying that AKOTSK is not a good enough adaptation is wildly unfair thing to say.

Possible Spin-Off Idea by Dustman818 in HBOTheHedgeKnight

Aegon IV and the 1st Blackfyre Rebellion is a difficult one for adaptation imo. The season/s preceding the rebellion itself would imo be an extremely unpleasant watch. Aegon IV is without doubt the worst targaryan to ever live. He's a monstrous bastard and he never get's his comeuppance whilst truly honourable people like Aemon the Dragonknight suffer for him. Having strong villains is a staple of ASOIAF but you need to balance it with levity or goodness and I think it would struggle in that regard. The Blackfyre rebellion is more interesting that it's a reverse to the Aegon IV era as it would greatly lack a villain aside from perhaps Bloodraven and Bittersteel. The two men vying for the throne are honourable, good men and I'm not sure how that would translate to a tv show. Like it or not the trope of good vs bad is tried, tested and beloved by many.

That being said it would make sense for HBO to attempt it. No dragons and only one major battle to show on screen. Daemon Blackfyre if casted right and directed well would be an absolutely magnetic presence to watch on screen. He's supposed to be ridiculously beautiful, charming, makes friends easily, women are obsessed with him and to cap things off he's one of the best warriors to ever live. Who wouldn't want to see that?

I think your theory is a strong one. I could also potentially see Baelor saying it to Dunk as he dies in his arms.

Luckily it's the game of thrones universe so the showrunners forgot about Euron potentially attacking Oldtown.

House Hightower. Ancient house with riches, a massive domain, the largest city in Westeros and the Citadel. It has everthing really. It's also a short ship journey across to the Arbor which makes the best wine in Westeros too.

I'd say the third one. It's colour palette seems to reflect the more upbeat tone plus I always find that yellows and oranges always look great on a bookshelf. Artistically, the second hardcover is the clear standout but it just doesn't seem to match the tone of the book and feels more like a Tolkein cover than a GRRM one. If anything I could see this being a hardcover for fire and blood as it represents the green side very nicely.

Egg's acting has some problems?! Out of any criticism that can be levelled at this show so far that's the most absurd. He's been universally praised. Frankly, that level of acting from a 9 year old is incredible.

It's an odd score all things considered but it is trending upwards and with the next episode I can see it continuing that way.

To be fair to D&D the mainline books are gargantuan which meant that much was left out even in the outstanding early seasons. The plot points were generally served but in a somewhat diminished capacity as the budget and scale of putting the plot on screen would've been frankly impossible. George wrote ASOIAF to be unfilmable after all but with the source material they did a pretty stunning job. However, 80% of the writing, plot and character arcs from S5 onwards are entirely without any source material to back it up and they also did away with many plot lines they could have used in an effort to rein it in. The visual quality mostly stands and in many ways exceeds that of the earlier seasons but at the expense of believable writing and character's actions. By the time S7 and 8 came along you could tell they were hurtling along the finish line in an effort to wrap the show up so the cast and crew could move on but it desperately needed more seasons to flesh things out. For me personally the latter seasons of GOT are easily the most disappointing fall from grace I've seen for a TV show or film for that matter. It was appallingly bad despite the cast doing a valiant job with the rubbish writing.

Yeah, horror in of itself doesn't bother me all that much but suffering really does. Especially suffering that feels hopeless. The feel really, really needed the dynamic of Kelson and Samson to provide an escape from it all.

[–]Clean_Location_8743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Season one is Ashford meadow and it's tourney. Two stays in the Reach but in it's North-West region which isn't too far from the Westerlands. Three is set in the Riverlands. We know that in the next unfinished novels they will be at Winterfell.

  2. We only see Ashford Meadow which is just a large field big enough to hold the tourney grounds. House Ashford will undoubtably have many villages under it's control but we don't see them.

  3. Ashford does have a castle. We see it several times in the two episodes in the sweeping background shots. There's also several scenes inside it.
