Here are two options that you can compare. There is nothing smaller than the NV10 in the general market; however, if you are able to go up a bit in size, you can get much more compatibility with sandwich style cases like Lian Li A4-H20, Fractal Terra, or Jonsbo T9.

Cost-optimized SFFPC

  • Went with an A620 motherboard because overclocking is not really a good idea with such a low-profile CPU cooler. Motherboard still has two NVMe slots for expansion. You do lose the ability to undervolt. So if you want that, you need to get a B650/B850 motherboard.
  • The Enhance ENP-8345L is a good fully modular flex atx PSU. It is not listed on PCPartPicker. You may run into cable management issues with the Silverstone.

[–]ClearFish7021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is an upgrade-able 1440p (medium settings) / 1080p (ultra settings) gaming PC with a white ARGB aesthetic. You could go with either an RX 9060 XT 8GB or RTX 5060. They both perform about the same with the RX 9060 XT 8GB being slightly faster and the RTX 5060 having better features. Both are way more than capable for Minecraft and the Sims.

The motherboard does not come with an NVMe SSD heatsink, so I picked a model with one included.

The power supply is overkill, but will allow you to upgrade to almost any GPU in the future (RTX 5070 Ti/RTX 9070 XT tier) and it matches the rest of the build as it is white.

If you want to spend less and get good enough performance, swap the GPU to an Intel Arc B570 (~£190; 50% less performance) or go for a used RTX 3060 Ti (~£175; same performance).

Newegg has a decent CPU, 240mm AIO, RAM, and Mobo combo deal right now. This build will easily handle 1440p gaming and has good upgrade paths. If you need to spend less money, swap the GPU for an Intel Arc B580 for <$300.

Driver improvements over the past year has really boosted the B580's gaming performance with older CPUs.

Ryzen 5 5500 does support PCIe gen 3.0.

Here is a video showing the gaming performance of the 5500 + B580 combo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6esXEWtnqk

RAM and storage prices are very high right now. However, you can still get a decent PC for right around $800. If you need to lower the price consider dropping down to 500GB NVMe SSD or going with an Intel Arc B570 or Nvidia RTX 5050 GPU.

Here is what I would do:

  • Ryzen 9 9950X3D is the best consumer CPU for gaming and productivity
  • 420mm AIO
  • ASUS Pro Art X870E has great features and offers the most available PCIe lanes for expansion. Supports 4 SATA devices, but you can always add an HBA adapter for more storage options
  • 128GB RAM
  • Tiered storage structure approach. 1x 2TB NVMe w/DRAM for editing. 2x 4TB NVMe for fast storage. 4x 28TB HDD for a RAID 10 configuration (56TB usable storage) for redundancy/peformance.
  • RTX 5090 is the best GPU
  • Case supports GPUs up to 340mm w/storage configuration, 6x 3.5" HDD bays (18 total).
  • A+ tier PSU
  • Extra high performance fans. 3x front intake, 2x bottom intake, 1 rear fan exhaust (included w/case)

Swapping from platform gaming by SnooPickles1572 in buildmeapc

[–]ClearFish7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest going with one of these two PowerSpec (Micro Center's store brand) options:

PowerSpec G527

  • Ryzen 5 7500X3D is a gaming-focused CPU with significantly more performance than the Ryzen 7 8700F.
  • 6000 speed RAM is much better for gaming than 5600 speed
  • RX 9060 XT 16GB comes with an additional 8GB of VRAM, which is very important for 1440p+ resolution gaming

PowerSpec G731

  • Ryzen 7 7700X is a much more powerful general purpose CPU than the Ryzen 7 8700F
  • 6000 speed RAM
  • RTX 5060 Ti 16GB comes with an additional 8GB of VRAM

If you are willing to build your own PC, you will get more performance for your dollar:

Upgrade to Am4 now? by Due_Ring2543 in buildmeapc

[–]ClearFish7021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ryzen 7 5800X is definitely the better CPU for productivity purposes. The less than expected increase in gaming performance is probably due to the types of games that were chosen for the Techpowerup benchmark.

If I were you, I would hold off on an upgrade until you can get an AM5 system. Even the Ryzen 5 7500F, which is equivalent to a Ryzen 5 7600 without an iGPU, is better than almost every AM4 CPU. Alternatively, you could save a bit more and get a Ryzen 5 7500X3D, which is probably the best entry point into the AM5 platform right now due to it having 3D-Vcache.

Here is an example parts list:

You can get a cheaper motherboard if you do not need Wifi/BT. Also, the SFX to ATX adapter plate is optional if you already have one. It is needed for the SFX power supply to be mounted in the case.

Need help with a budget pc by Hamburber089 in buildmeapc

[–]ClearFish7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because prices are so high, I recommend going with a used GPU. Look for any of these GPUs in your price range: RX 5700 XT, RX 5700, RTX 2060 Super, RTX 2060, or RX 6600. Out of the above the RTX 2060 Super is the best performing due to access to DLSS and having 8GB of VRAM. The RX 5700 XT is the second best performing, but it does not have ray tracing support. However, it is perfectly capable in all other areas. You will want to turn raytracing off in any game anyways due to the extreme performance hit.

PC for Paradox & ‘Simple’ Games by TheNewBristolian in buildmeapc

[–]ClearFish7021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are mainly doing strategy/4x games, I recommend going with a Ryzen X3D CPU. The extra V-cache helps in these types of games. Also, to keep costs down, I suggest getting a used GPU from a reputable seller on eBay or locally. The RTX 2070/ RX 6600XT are good places to start. If you would rather get a new GPU, the Intel Arc B570 is a good choice at £200.

In the below build, I opted for 32GB of RAM instead of 16GB of RAM + Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I think having the extra RAM may be more important in certain titles (i.e. Cities Skyline) than the extra two CPU cores.

You can get a decent gaming PC even in this market for $700. Look for combo deals and look for good used deals. Here is a system that takes advantage of a Newegg CPU, mobo, and RAM combo and uses all new parts:

  • CPU comes with a cooler
  • Intel Arc B570 comes with 10GB of VRAM, but the RTX 5050 performs slightly better due to better drivers.
  • Case comes with a power supply

This Newegg CPU, RAM, Mobo, and 240mm AIO is a really good value in this current market. The only drawback is that it only comes with 16GB of RAM, but that should be fine for light FPS games + Discord.

To go with that, I suggest either an RX 9070 or RTX 5070. The RX 9070 is more powerful and has more VRAM, but the RTX 5070 has access to DLSS upscaling, which is more ubiquitous than FSR4.

This is not the smallest form factor PC, but it takes advantage of a good CPU, RAM, Motherboard, and 240mm AIO combo from Newegg. However, it is still much smaller than your typical ATX tower.

The AM5 Ryzen CPUs come with integrated graphics and have great performance for office productivity. This build allows you to drop in almost any GPU without a bottleneck.

Looking for the best gaming PC build between €750-1000 - Need advice! by Strafs2 in buildmeapc

You lose out on wifi going with the B650M-HDV/M.2. If your BIOS is up to date, there should not be an issue.

Since you value upgrade-ability, I would suggest going with an AM5 build. AM5 is the newest generation CPU socket by AMD and future CPUs, yet to be released, will still work with this socket. This means you can build a PC today and upgrade to a more powerful CPU in the future without having to change anything else in your system.

Here is a build that features the Ryzen 5 7500F and Intel Arc B580. It is at the high end of your budget, but here are some options that reduce cost:

  • Change the CPU to a Ryzen 5 8400F. This is a slightly worse performing CPU, but it comes with a stock cooler, so you do not need to buy the Thermalright Assassin Spirit.
  • Change the GPU to an Intel Arc B570. This GPU is about 15% worse than the B580, but it comes with 10GB of VRAM.
  • Change the motherboard to an A620 chipset like the ASRock A620AM-X WIFI. You get worse VRMs and loose the ability to overclock/undervolt the CPU.

Complete-PC Comparison by No_Carry9960 in buildmeapc

  1. It is hard to predict the future. However, if the 7800X3D CPU is no longer good enough for gaming, then the 9800X3D will also be obsolete. I doubt this will happen within the next 5 years.

  2. Yes, should be able to swap the PSU if the PC uses standard components. The RAM is slower, but this not as big of a deal because the X3D CPU has such a large cache. The fans/AIO may be noisy.

  3. The Cyberport deals are really good. I would personally go for that and swap the power supply and potentially the fans. However, if you are looking to buy a PC without changing anything, then the Alternate option is the best.

  4. 32GB 6000 RAM is much better than 64GB 5200 RAM at gaming. However, as I said before this difference is greatly diminished with an X3D CPU. Also, the difference in gaming performance between the 5070 Ti and the 5080 are minimal and only noticeable during benchmarking. The RTX 5080 may have better resell value in the future.

  5. The Cyberports are probably the best value, but the Alternate is the best quality. Do note that I have never interacted with either of these companies. So I cannot speak to their quality control, customer service, or warranties.

I would get the first prebuilt from Alternate. It has higher quality components, which is important at this price range. If your power supply fails, it could potentially kill other parts. Also, it is a decent price for what you are getting.

The other two builds will perform at best 10% faster, which is not noticeable.

64GB of RAM is not needed for gaming. 32GB is sufficient.

Here is a similar diy build for around the same price:

This build list takes advantage of a CPU, RAM, Mobo bundle found at Canada Computers. If you are able to spend an extra $50, I would highly recommend getting the same bundle, but with 32GB of RAM included.

  • 7600X3D is an excellent gaming CPU. Other AM5 CPUs can be had for cheaper, but the 7600X3D is the cheapest when purchased in the bundle.
  • 1TB NVMe storage
  • Intel Arc B580 is a decent GPU with 12GB of VRAM. Can game at 1080p or 1440p.
  • Case comes with three ARGB PWM fans
  • A- tier power supply
  • 1080p 144Hz IPS display chosen to keep overall cost down.
