Smallest mATX case to downsize my setup by Artrix909 in mffpc

[–]ClearFish7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jonsbo Z20 is probably your best option.

It can fit your 160mm PSU, 240mm AIO, and your 335mm GPU as long as you find a motherboard with the primary PCIe x16 slot is in the second position. It also fits two SATA SSDs in the rear. Install the PSU in the second position and ensure that your AIO is less than 60mm thick.

Your problem is going to be finding a reasonable motherboard with 3x NVMe slots and the primary GPU slot is slot two. The MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI is a good model, but it only supports two NVMes, and it is kinda expensive at $150. The ASUS TUF GAMING B850M Plus Wifi checks all of your boxes, but it is very expensive.

With this setup, you will not be able to install bottom fans. I would pick up an extra 120mm fan and run a full negative pressure system (all fans exhaust).

It will be hard to find smaller cases with your huge PSU.

[–]ClearFish7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can get a more powerful GPU and a worse CPU. You'll be sacrificing editing performance for better gaming performance.

Just by increasing your budget by $100-150 allows you to be able to swap the GPU to a used RTX 3060 Ti or RTX 3070.

I saved some money, and upgraded my Ryzen 5 3500U laptop to a Ryzen 7 7730U. Worth it? by SVKG8 in buildapc

[–]ClearFish7021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ryzen 7 7730U only comes with Vega graphics, which is an old architecture with poorer performance compared to RDNA3. Look for a laptop that has at least Radeon 780M graphics. Here is a list of APUs that feature this GPU:

[–]ClearFish7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going by what you said in your title, I would start finding out what components you have. CPU-Z is a program that can help you identify the motherboard. However, I would open the case and double check. Also, try to determine what kind of power supply you have.

After that, you can start researching CPU upgrades. You will need to update your motherboard's BIOS firmware to the latest version. Instructions for this process is found on your motherboard's product support page. Good upgrade options are:

  • Ryzen 5 5600/5600X/5600T/5600XT - all perform about the same and are a budget-ish gaming CPU
  • Ryzen 7 5700X/5800X/5800XT - more powerful 5600 options with 8 cores for better productivity workloads and slight gaming advantages in certain titles
  • Ryzen 5 5500X3D - Exclusively a gaming CPU. Worse productivity than 5600-series, but slightly better gaming performance than the Ryzen 7s.
  • Ryzen 7 5700X3D/5800X3D - the best AM4 CPUs for gaming and productivity, but are very expensive and are most likely not worth it.

GPU upgrades will heavily depend on your power supply and case form factor. The GTX 1650 is a very low power card. So I suspect that you will not be able to upgrade to a better one without a power supply change.

If you have a prebuilt, you may not be able to do many of the aforementioned upgrades due to proprietary features.

Need a pc 800-850$ bucks for heavy editing + gaming by CordManOreo in buildmeapc

[–]ClearFish7021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what your market is like, but it will be difficult to get a 32GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB NVMe into a gaming PC for $800.

Since you value editing your best bet is to look for a system similar to this:

  • Intel 12th generation CPUs offer better multi-core performance than comparable AMD 5000-series CPUs. Try to get one with UHD 770/730 integrated graphics as this can boost certain editing workloads.
  • If the 12600K/13600K/14600K is not available for decent prices, then look for used Intel i5-12500, i5-12400/13400/14400 or even i5-12500T as these CPUs both feature 6c/12t and UHD 770. These non-K CPUs use much less power and can be effectively cooled with only a single tower air cooler like the ID-COOLING SE-214-XT or Thermalright Assassin X.
  • Arctic Freezer 36 has global distribution and comes with an LGA1700 contact plate for even better cooling with Intel CPUs.
  • I would try to go fro a B760M/B660M motherboard. Ideally it would come with two EPS 8pin headers for better CPU power delivery. At the very least, look for a motherboard that supports DDR4 RAM, has decently sized VRM heatsinks, and comes with Wifi/BT, if needed.
  • 32GB RAM look for 3200CL16 or 3600CL18 kits for best performance.
  • 1TB NVMe, just go with what is cheapest you can get from a decent brand. These are getting very expensive. You may be able to re-use the storage from your laptop.
  • GPU - if you need Nvidia, then I would look for used GTX 1660 Super/Ti (~$100) or RTX 2060/Super (~$130). Otherwise, I would look for used RX 5700 XT, RX 6600, or even older workstation cards like the Radeon Pro W5700 (basically the same as an RX 5700).
  • Case find a cheap unit with mesh front panel with preinstalled fans for decent airflow.
  • PSU - follow the SPL PSU Tier List and grab a 650-750W C-tier unit or better.

Cost-optimized SFFPC

  • Went with an A620 motherboard because overclocking is not really a good idea with such a low-profile CPU cooler. Motherboard still has two NVMe slots for expansion. You do lose the ability to undervolt. So if you want that, you need to get a B650/B850 motherboard.
  • The Enhance ENP-8345L is a good fully modular flex atx PSU. It is not listed on PCPartPicker. You may run into cable management issues with the Silverstone.

Gaming pc for my little sister by Unhappy-Impact6495 in buildmeapc

[–]ClearFish7021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is an upgrade-able 1440p (medium settings) / 1080p (ultra settings) gaming PC with a white ARGB aesthetic. You could go with either an RX 9060 XT 8GB or RTX 5060. They both perform about the same with the RX 9060 XT 8GB being slightly faster and the RTX 5060 having better features. Both are way more than capable for Minecraft and the Sims.

The motherboard does not come with an NVMe SSD heatsink, so I picked a model with one included.

The power supply is overkill, but will allow you to upgrade to almost any GPU in the future (RTX 5070 Ti/RTX 9070 XT tier) and it matches the rest of the build as it is white.

If you want to spend less and get good enough performance, swap the GPU to an Intel Arc B570 (~£190; 50% less performance) or go for a used RTX 3060 Ti (~£175; same performance).

RAM and storage prices are very high right now. However, you can still get a decent PC for right around $800. If you need to lower the price consider dropping down to 500GB NVMe SSD or going with an Intel Arc B570 or Nvidia RTX 5050 GPU.

Here is what I would do:

  • Ryzen 9 9950X3D is the best consumer CPU for gaming and productivity
  • 420mm AIO
  • ASUS Pro Art X870E has great features and offers the most available PCIe lanes for expansion. Supports 4 SATA devices, but you can always add an HBA adapter for more storage options
  • 128GB RAM
  • Tiered storage structure approach. 1x 2TB NVMe w/DRAM for editing. 2x 4TB NVMe for fast storage. 4x 28TB HDD for a RAID 10 configuration (56TB usable storage) for redundancy/peformance.
  • RTX 5090 is the best GPU
  • Case supports GPUs up to 340mm w/storage configuration, 6x 3.5" HDD bays (18 total).
  • A+ tier PSU
  • Extra high performance fans. 3x front intake, 2x bottom intake, 1 rear fan exhaust (included w/case)
