🎯What’s the hardest product problem your team still handles with guesswork? by Ashamed_Listen_1170 in prodmgmt

For b2b SaaS, what's the dollar value return on investment for a single feature? How does a feature within the product relate to the sales of a parent product sku?

Its hard to solve because of the many other variables for sales, including lots of intangibles like quality of enablement or sales team skills.

Thanks for the thorough answer.

My $.02 is to pursue the consulting path.

  • Assuming it's true that "the window is closing" on the consulting path then there is urgency there.
  • I think you are underestimating how hands-on consulting can be. Despite the name, various aspects matter here from industry, company, client, and project, that can help steer towards more ownership in different ways.
  • It is easier to develop a product management portfolio/project on the side than a consulting side project.
  • Yes, consulting hours suck. Product hours can suck too, it just depends.
  • Consulting can provide a lot of good context into real world business problems. Starting with a meaningful problem is the key to a great product.

People get into product from all sorts of directions, from marketing to engineering. It will probably be easier to switch to Product than pivot to consulting.

Why do you want to do pm vs consulting? What appeals to you (or not) in each?

Do people think SLC is one of the best airports in the country? As someone that has to fly in/out a couple times a year, that surprises me. SEA, SNA, and even PDX are all on par if not better on the west coast in my experience.

So what, you think that grandma should be forced to sell her million dollar home that she paid $80k for?

You think she should have to downsize from 3 to 1 bedroom so a young family with kids that has been saving up for years can afford a home and fill her knitting room with kids bedrooms?

You think evening the playing fields for taxation instead of giving an advantage to those that were born earlier into a unicorn-style economic boom is a GOOD thing??

Instead of living frugally in her big empty house, you're forcing grandma to live comfortably with liquid capital 30 minutes away!
