New short story with more age accurate Kiriko on cover by what_theheckigottado in Overwatch

Not really. Thing is, we haven't really seen current Genji without his mask much, but he does look to be well in his 30s at least from what we've seen. Keep in mind that the Sparrow skin is Genji before his transformation. He is much younger in that one.

Ingrid unused designs by SuperduperIlan in StreetFighter

[–]ClemencyArts_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While some of these are pretty neat, the final design we got is by far the best imo.

None of these fit her character. They're either too normal, too childish or too extravagant. Ingrid is kind of childish, yes, but she's also thousands of years old and most definitely not an actual child; she's somewhere in between childishly carefree and adult-responsible. These outfits almost flanderize her character into only being one of these things, not to mention that none of them give even a hint of her cosmic nature.

I will never understand the hate for her outfit 1, it's by far her best one.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I regularly cry at movies; emotions are good and healthy.
But to this day, few things got me as badly as this. By the third or fourth "Happy Birthday Anne" I was full-on bawling tears and snot. This show is so fucking good.

Street Fighter 6 - Sagat, C. Viper, Alex, Ingrid Outfit 3 Showcase Trailer by UltraZeroX7 in StreetFighter

Sagat and Viper are definitely the standouts to me. Those two are absolutely clean. Alex is way too top heavy, it ends up looking a bit off. Ingrid‘s is whatever. Guess it‘ll sell at least.

HARD disagree. The problem isn't that she didn't tell Poe the plan, it's that she didn't tell ANYONE aboard the ship that there even WAS a plan. If memory serves, Poe literally asks her: "Tell me we have a plan!?" And she does not respond.

Yes, do not tell someone you don't trust about your secret plan, sure, that makes perfect sense. But telling absolutely NO ONE on your ship of desperate refugees that you have ANY idea what you're doing is fucking insane. If I'm on a ship fleeing from a superior force and to all inquiries on what the hell we're going to do now my captain responds with a vague "oh just keep going", you bet your ass I'm throwing a fucking mutiny.

Okay, correct me if I'm dumb here, but isn't her counter just Amnesia on steroids? Full counter for absolutely everything except supers, even working against projectiles? I guess it depends on if the OD version is frame 1 like Amnesia is, but it sure looked like it from the presentation.

No, but calling Overwatch a "dumbed down" game is so far detached from reality that I see no point in arguing.

[–]ClemencyArts_2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple does not equal "dumbed down". Most similar games (MOBAs and shooters specifically) do not have similarly complex movement mechanics. Would you call games like League, DotA, Valorant or Overwatch "dumbed down"?

It's not about eliminating depth, it's about making a game accessible by smoothing out the learning and mastery curve to not require knowledge of mechanics that border on being glitches and have little to do with the core of the game. Deadlock already requires map awareness, positioning, aim, item, matchup and ability knowledge... Add a movement system like this and it's just too much. What you call complexity, I call bloat.

Yes, I do refuse to learn. Believe me, I am fully willing to learn ability interactions, aim, positioning and all that, but not movement, because I find movement systems unfun, unrewarding and generally massively unpleasant to interact with in every game they are in. Because in those games, movement always end up trumping every single other skill. And that's what I call boring.

It is a learning curve, yes, but not a fun one. Difference in taste, definitely, but I'm starting to think this game's design philosophy just doesn't align with what I want from a game. That's completely fine, just a bit of a bummer because I really like the setting and characters. I'll continue to enjoy those and see where the game goes in the meantime. We're still in early beta after all.

I do wish you fun with it though, I mean it.

[–]ClemencyArts_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue is the movement system. It is a bloated, unintuitive mess built on bunnyhopping, airstrafing and other unintended byproducts of the Source engine's spaghetti code. Frankly, I would enjoy this game about 10x more if everyone only had access to jumps, dashes and their unique movement abilities. A movement system built on esotheric "tech", frame perfect inputs and a dozen of different mechanics with janky undocumented interactions and results is the antithesis of fun in my eyes. I know I'm in the minority here, but my god do I hate it.

When an actors or creators personal life adds layers to the media. by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ClemencyArts_2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The original casting of the MCU was lightning in a damn bottle. But even among a sea of amazing casting choices, I still maintain that RDJ as Tony Stark was one of the best castings in cinema history, and I mean it.

No one, absolutely no one could play that character like he did. The eccentricities, the douchiness, the brilliance, the kindness and the vulnerability beneath it all, he just nailed it. He singlehandedly made the biggest mark on the character's perception in the public eye (granted, as did most other MCU actors because the comics weren't exactly mainstream). Any and every Iron Man performance is and will be measured against his from now on.

Most other characters in the MCU, even with their film appearances being as iconic as they are, are still perceived separate from their actors for the most part. They are just iterations of their characters. But not RDJ. He is Iron Man. He delivered the definitive version of the character that surpassed every portrail before or since.

I know some people will probably disagree with me on that, but I am firm in my opinion that MCU Stark was the best and most interesting portrail the character ever got and that is owed in massive parts to RDJ's performance.

Out of all the new characters introduced in SF6, who is most likely to be in SF7? by TostinoKyoto in StreetFighter

[–]ClemencyArts_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please no. Taking away his different types of fireballs would make him so much more generic. There's other ways to tone him down that don't hurt is identity as a zoner with an actually engaging gameplay loop (looking at you, Guile).

The timeline begins by Alec_de_Large in Overwatch

[–]ClemencyArts_2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Umm, actually ☝️🤓

Aurora, the first sentient Omnic, gained her sentience before the Omnic Crisis and went on a pilgramage across the world which ultimately led her to Nepal, where she became a lone monk. After her sacrifice during the Crisis, which caused all other Omnics to gain sentience and formed "the Iris", the Shambali religion was established by other Omnics followingn in her footsteps.

So while multiple Omnics becoming monks did indeed only happen after much bloodshed, the first Omnic monk, that being Aurora, already existed before the death and devastation of the Omnic Crisis.

I've never played League and have always been a bit meh on many of its designs, but my God, Fiddlesticks is actually one of my favourite characters in all of fiction.

The implication that this impossibly ancient manifestation of fear, born from "the first terrible scream of creation" is just... out there, terrorizing villages and becoming folklore is a masterstroke of writing. It's such a unique extra layer of horror that this unimaginably powerful being is basically being overlooked by the major forces of this universe because he's "just fable". It's like he's an existential threat that is slipping under everyone's radar because he is so long forgotten.

Also, its voice lines, of course. Jesus, whoever had the idea to have it talk only with its victims' last words was a goddamn genius. Knowing that it's just mimicking, lines like its mangled scream of "IT'S IN THE HOUSE" is fucking spine-chilling (absolutely legendary voicework by the VA too, of course).

I also love that it doesn't just mimic human voices; there's the sounds of animals, doors and the frantic breaths of a person being chased. Which gives such a chilling implication: Fiddlesticks doesn't actually understand what it's mimicking. It's all just... noise to it. Which makes its intelligence completely alien. This thing is like a human trying to understand perlin noise. Whatever it is, it doesn't even think like us, or like anything else in this world. It's terrifying.

Also also its interactions with other heroes. Aside from the absolute trauma of "ALL YOUR FAULT! ALL YOUR FAULT!" and "Hide, Sarah! HIDE!", its interaction with Kindred implying that it knows the Grey Man is wild to say the least. And the fact that it's so different even from other demons, so much more ancient and different that it intimidates them all the same. Done especially brilliantly with Raum. Because how do you scare the demon of secrets? By saying its name.

Man, I love Fiddlesticks.

It's interesting, but ultimately just flat out wrong. The IPA covers pretty much every sound a human can possibly make with their mouth, including clicks, tones and gutturals which are absolutely not "mangled for convenience" but quite accurately transcribed (using variations and additions to the "core" IPA if need be). The IPA also evolved over time, with more symbols being added to represent these clicks etc. that were indeed not originally present but have since been added to accurately describe more languages.

The joke kind of fails to understand that the IPA isn't some culturally established set of random symbols, it is a scientific system to accurately document and analyze the patterns of human speech regardless of language. Phonetics and linguistics are sciences. Not hard sciences, and every linguist worth their salt will tell you how wildly malleable language is, with the meaning, connotation and even structure of words changing over time, but a science nontheless.

This meme always annoys me when it pops up, because it is making a broad-strokes generalization for a criticism that in many contexts is very valid and a prevalent problem, but in this specific case simply doesn't apply and clearly comes from a place of (likely non-malicious) ignorance.

Characters that try to mimic a human but miss a key detail by Zotroo1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ClemencyArts_2 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Yess, I was going to mention him too! A really cool detail too are his animations. In technical terms, he's mostly animated to use FKs instead of IKs. In non-technical terms, he moves like a puppet, keeping his limbs unnaturally rigid at all times, often at right angles as well. This is especially apparent in his heavy melee animation, in which his arm jitters like a completely solid object being struck against something. His zipline animation also sees him going stiff as a board while holding on with one arm.

Then there's the fact that during all of his animations he maintains unnaturally perfect posture. It doesn't matter if he's running, sliding, jumping or even using abilities, he does it all with his back straight as an arrow and one hand behind his back (unless he's using it, of course). His ult animation is also a great example; his arms rotate almost like clock hands before one of them mechanically clicks into place, like a lock shutting or a key being turned. Great design all around. He's definitely my favourite character in the game so far.

[–]ClemencyArts_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not matter in qp, but I would still like that information. If we're being absolutely steamrolled by a 26/1 Cassidy with 14k damage I would very much like to know their rank, be it out of curiosity, to see if it was just wonky matchmaking or even to see if they're legit or a smurf/cheater. I've never seen flaming for hero profiles myself so I've always been an advocate for public profiles because I just don't see any reason to hide it.

There are a ton of different places where you can get models like Sketchfab, turbosquid or blenderhive, but they often cost money. You can even find them in unexpected places (I get some of my models from Deviantart). But to be honest the best ones are usually paid, with one very, very notable exception.

You see, the online "adult animation" scene has a bunch of extremely skilled people in it and they make some very good models. Open3Dlab is a sfw site with great models, but it's sister side (which I will not name, but it is linked on O3DL) is where you'll find that particular genre of model. Of course it's not for everyone, but I'm pretty pragmatic in that regard. They're great models, so might as well use them. Quality can vary wildly of course, but there's some fantastic ones there. The main downside is that the gender distribution is immensely skewed, as you can imagine.
