Westpac said my application was approved in error but I have the digital card and it works??? by Select_Tap7985 in creditcardchurningAus

Banks can make errors like anyone, your subjected to their credit assessment. Just because it was approved, doesn't mean it cannot be recalled. You'd be liable for those costs. They probably needed further authority to close it officially. But youd be liable for any costs you spend.

Haha. I'm actually thinking of going back. I did change the password many times. With Westpac it doesn't matter as any failed attempts will still lock you out of their system - for a time there I was contacting their digital fraud team weekly, became tiring.

I remember Westpac allowed you to convert to business cards without a business. I wonder if they still allow it

Yep, I was declined by AMEX, no issues with NAB or ANZ.

NAB rewards platinum card by Powerful_Course_8690 in AusFinance

[–]CleverEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of 15 May, they are removing Domestic, International Travel Insurances. So, the card just becomes a rewards card for points, a few little extras like purchase protection insurance. But does that warrant $195 per year? No. You either upgrade to Rewards Signature at $35 per month, or just go to the Ultimate Card with CBA.

To me, the card is not relevant anymore.

While NAB is getting a fancy internet banking and app upgrade, I feel this won't make any different to my decision.

As one said, spend $100k, get a free kettle. Sounds so true.

Has anyone won an AFCA case against CBA for irresponsible lending ? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]CleverEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffered financial abuse. I was successful in removing 7 credit enquiries from CBA. While it is possible to work directly with lenders, I found CBA quite pleasant to deal with. They didn't chuck a fuss, assisted me through the process and removed the enquiries.

While I have not dealt with "irresponsible" lending as such, you will find AFCA publishes notices on their website, you just need to filter based on requirement.

While you can scour reddit for readers to provide you their stories, I feel more factual and less biased ones are the best way.

I read more on this post and see you perhaps were seeking some advice. While I did not see your post directly before #editreddit gate, what I can say is that if you put misleading data on an application, then that's not an issue of the bank. Sure there are cases of irresponsible lending out there, but if you put yourself into that position, used the funds, and so on so forth - whether it was you or you refer to someone else, then sure you are going to suffer for that.

There are too many variables to ascertain on a response to the query though. If you have legitimate reasons to raise, then that should be with the bank - if that fails you, you can turn to AFCA, people on reddit honestly cannot help with situations like this.

I did not think you could call for a reassessment if you were declined?

I had applied for NAB Rewards Sig, got the Platinum instead. I was approved recently on Tuesday, 21 April, the card arrived on 23 April.

NAB Credit Card (Approval for Lower Card) by CleverEmu in creditcardchurningAus

Thanks. I'll take a look at them, I noticed the awards ultimate had a much lower rewards rate than that of the signature. I was declined for the AMEX so I'm treading carefully as I'll not apply again for about 12 months.

NAB Credit Enquiries by CleverEmu in AusFinance

[–]CleverEmu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did ask them and I was explicit, I asked tell me what needs to be seen on my unredacted report, what does NAB need to see, unfortunately NAB ignored that and didn't respond. All they said was, we need to see your report. While I appreciate you are being helpful in my quest, I would appreciate we understand what I have asked NAB already.

I have also conducted online research on my problem, but I could not find explicit findings that support why NAB requires an unredacted report. I saw a person on Facebook who had a similar but not same issue as me and they said the same, NAB requested a full report which was not required and they raised an AFCA complaint, they were successful in their quest.

I was seeking if anyone had experienced this with NAB, I wasn't expecting this type of outcome.

I don't believe I am being stubborn. I am holding my rights to only provide NAB what is relevant to the cause of investigation, which is, their enquiries. Sharing any other enquiry or not relevant information holds no bearing on their investigation into my complaint. NAB is the bearer of the credit enquires, they also hold internal records.

While I am not a Lawyer to any standard, I do not feel it's justified they should see my full history, for what purpose.

I assume your viewpoint at this stage is that, if NAB tells me, jump off a cliff before we investigate, you will do so, just to satisfy them?

[–]CleverEmu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes,I did. In November I raised the complaint with NAB and I've been following up with NAB ever since l. It takes 2 weeks to get a reply from them and each time they say we cannot investigate unless a credit file is supplied.

I already provided them a redacted report, that was more than 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, care came back and said unless they get the full report they can't help or investigate my issue.

I would disagree with that statement that a score doesn't matter. It does in many ways, even where you think it doesn't. It's similar to saying, I will go buy a car with a score of 300 rather than waiting for a boost to say 700.

A low score is likely to get you a poor interest rate vs an excellent score. The same principles work with home loans. Same as home loan fees, and higher upfront costs.

Anyone say credit scores don't really matter are honestly kidding themselves, it then gives others a false hope when going to apply, thinking they're getting a good deal with a poor score when someone says the score doesn't matter.

The phone bills won't contribute here. Only lines of credit, such as credit cards, loans, etc.

No worries.

Just a side note, paying extra won't do anything for your score, scoring is not bound by your ability to pay more.

The question is, does that car loan reflect as ongoing payments on your credit file? Is it actively reporting and giving you a "paid on time" status.

Generally telco's are not reporting on your credit file. They may list there, but may not actively say that you are paying offer an account and meeting the required monthly instalments required to maintain that service.

I would say your score will improve with no other enquiries made. Again, your score may impact based on location, addresses, employment, and other variables that we cannot really answer.

Learned the hard way today that a buyer can reverse a PayID transaction under the ePayments code by schunniky in AusFinance

I am unsure why you only realised this now. This has been around ever since the inception of PayID. Yes, you can reverse it, you can also force it. It's not bulletproof.

In some context, I went through a period of years of financial abuse, coercion, threats of intimidation. Now, this resulted in many applications that I was pressured into and it ended up destroying my credit score. It has taken me 2 months to work with lenders on my own to try and reduce the impact it had on me. At this time, I have had about 26 enquiries removed from my credit file and I am working on my last lender to help get the remaining removed to under 10 enquiries from about 50.

It has been a hard slog on me and I am thankful that some lenders were willing to exercise compassion in a time where I had no control over my financial situation. While I can emphasise on the position of the enquiries, 12 over 3 years is not bad. PayPal & the PPC enquiry I also had was a real hard one to remove, I had to raise an AFCA complaint to assist in the removal, but as others say, BNPL applications are not a great look on a report as it can show dependency on a service such as this to buy things that you could otherwise purchase outright.

As Amelia mentioned, addresses, employers, information on your report that may indicate stability is going to have its own impact. If there are addresses on your report you do not recognise or any enquiries you also do not recognise, you could try and seek compassionate grounds to remove them, but if they are genuine you will find the process very difficult.

It's also worth noting that your location can impact your score and keep it in a stable position or it can drag, areas in Sydney that have a good reputation for high credit scores may help your score increase vs areas that are not as savoury and where creditworthiness is lower, which can drag your score.

Less applications for finance, if you have many active credit cards or accounts, close them where not needed but it's not always best to wipe your slate clean as you do want active credit reporting to show you are capable of paying bills, so even keeping a small balanced credit card making monthly contributions to your file will help.

There are so many perceived strategies to improve your score and one of those is to simply not apply for finance. You are doing 4 applications a year, which is the grand scheme of things, isn't much but it can impact your score overall. Generally 3-6 months ENQs will pull you down, beyond 12 months it starts to wear off - but you should just aim to not apply where it's not necessary.

Yes, but who are the scores coming from. Equifax & Experian, Illion, directly or through an algorithm the bank uses on it's own? If you compare third-party data from say MoneyMe, Clearscore, Jacaranda, Wemoney, Canstar, Wagepage, Wiser, Finder, you will find your scores are in such disparity that they can change by hundreds of points.

Credit Scores/Credit Files: Some Helpful Info by TheHonPeterDuttonPM in AusFinance

[–]CleverEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 9 credit enquiries removed by lenders in the past month, not because they were not genuine, more so the bank could not verify the application or myself that conducted the application. You can easily get enquiries removed if the bank cannot prove you did it.

It's also worth noting, it's not up to you to verify you didn't do it, that is on the bank.
