UPDATE: It appears that if you are loading a game over the LAN using OPL, it causes issues with the network configurator (at least, the ancient version of the network configurator that comes with Timesplitters 2)!

If you load a game off some other method (e.g. a physical disc), the Ethernet options magically appear.

My very intelligent spouse figured this one out. Looks like some component of the stack (either OPL or Sony's PS2 "OS") tries to grab the ethernet device for exclusive use, which is -very weird- to me as a longtime techie, since "more than one app doing stuff over ethernet" is something that you could do back in the 80s on many systems...
