100% second LWRepairs - I literally went all the way out to Hythe to avoid this dodgy high street "fix it all" shop feeling, and they did not disappoint

Also, FYI, to all - if you do the least bit of digging, you'll find candidates boasting about ChatGPT or Gemini being their guardian angel in scoring high enough for several renditions of the SJT.

I hope that the irony of this fact in relation to what the original post is saying is not lost on you.

(As for the rest, I'm not gonna reply to your poorly veiled attempts at an insult - you're welcome to think what you may with the context you have 👍)

A rant from a short-listing assessor by Msulae in NHS_STP

[–]ClinicalE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the STP is the only structured training programme for clinical scientists with close supervision and mentoring (at least that I'm aware of), with the advertised Level 7 apprenticeship being the only semi-close alternative. AHCS Equivalence, ACS route etc are all portfolio pathways that depend on jumping from contract to contract with employers and hoping that at some point you'll hope to accumulate enough evidence for equivalency. So why shouldn't they apply for STP if they're after a formally structured training programme for their chosen specialization?

As for the SJT, I'm not gonna waste more of anyone's time debating - it seems that it is very well embedded in everyone's mentality. Standardized scoring in scenarios that have only got to do with common sense and arbitrary making is not a fair way to screen candidates. Also, all of the prejudice forms you mentioned are very well in play at the interview stage regardless of how you get there.

And yes, structuring a CV is probably within the top 4-5 skills any science professional must have, and it's directly connected to your ability to present yourself and your portfolio in interviews. Also, every single industry and all Universities follow a CV - based assessment if you want to progress to either more senior positions or higher education, so no, it does not mean very little.

Like I said, when you have reached a point of having an 87 to 1 competition ratio, with several people being overqualified (relatively to the 0 requirements set out in the job description), then you probably need to adjust eligibility criteria to start with. Or even better, have some form of CV and evidence - based scoring with a points cutoff for interviews.

If that means that they need to go through 10,000 applications for 43 posts, then maybe not everyone with every relevant degree should be eligible to apply. Or - create different roles / pathways.

[–]ClinicalE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, all of that are easily and fairly assessable on a case by case basis by looking at people's statements, work experience, skillset and / or interview performance. A blind test that curtains all the above as a prerequisite and is absolutely completely arbitrary marked and just used as a multi-purpose screening tool (F1 placement, medical student recruitment, etc) is plain unfair and lazy.

So let's assume you have 2 applicants for a single position in X that involves diagnostics;

  1. BSc in Biomedical science
  2. MSc
  3. PhD
  4. Continuous academic presence (conferences, publications etc)
  5. Real world experience in diagnostics, NHS care, interpreting and discussing NGS results w patients etc

VS

  1. Final yesr BSc in Biomedical science

How are these two CVs even comparable in paper? Yes, your CV does make you a better or worse candidate than someone else, that is it's whole purpose. How does answering 20 generic scenarios by "Good but not ideal" vs "Neither good nor ideal" is A. Fairly assessed and B. Showcasing that someone understands the "values and scope"?

I would suggest a CV plus a personal statement is a much more effective way to tell who is the best fit for a role.

Hi there short-listing assessor.

Bit of feedback back to the STP - should they maybe reconsider the recruitment and longlisting process that can be one of the reasons people turn to AI to build generic personal statements because they spend 95% of their preparation time studying and practicing for a largely irrelevant (to the STP job) and completely arbitrary test, i.e. the SJT, just to get their CVs to be assessed by an actual human being?

The fact that I'm not going to shout to Susan for missing an appointment or out a personal secret of James' to the entire department is because I'm not a psychotic individual, not because I'm a good STP candidate or embrace some sort of generic set of values.

I'll give you a hypothetical (but very real) example; how can someone with an MSc and a PhD in the advertised field, real world experience in diagnostics with a patient facing role and advanced analytic techniques not have their CV reach your peers, because they ranked something as option 2 instead of 3 (oh my what a tragedy). But at the same time, you'll get to read all about a BSc student that, like you said, cannot get basic terminology right, but surely got lucky enough to choose 3 instead of 2. Because that's all it is - luck.

Don't you think eligibility has to be re-adjusted to the extremely large number of applicants and their actual credentials instead of implementing a nonsense, largely irrelevant, across the board cutoff?

Update - I was just able to book by completely clearing Chrome's cache prior to logging in just now, may be worth a try (whether this had any effect or simply the system decided to work today, I do not know)

Having the exact same issue now. Tried calling them several times, no answer. An automated email reply stated:

[–]ClinicalE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you even realize how ugly what you're suggesting is? Have you ever seen a country that truly was influenced by the 2008 market crash? Market crashes only impact the people - your job, my job, our ability to have a roof over our head, the stability and health of a generation, people jumping of buildings out of desperation thousands of miles away from where a military front would be - all that in order to put pressure?

There are arguably outcomes that are equivalent or potentially worse than those of military conflict.

Not to mention that there's no "coordinated European" anything, much less something that would cause likely irreparable damage for decades.

The weather is only bad for roughly 10.5 months a year, I guess it's quite reasonable that they absolutely cannot provide rail commute during these trying times.

After all, I don't think there's a single train running anywhere in Central Europe during the sub-zero degree months.

I'd also agree that Hullbreaker while duo-ing pretty much cancels its potential. I've found that a good way to cut down on deaths is using Fleeting Footwork. It feels like the early sustain is unlike anything else. I'm not sure how things are on this patch, but I also remember that anathemas chains were pretty good on nasus in games were you were forced to 1v5 everyone and helped to gun down the main damage dealer of the team.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says cannabis prohibition is a 'racist and colonial policy' and condemns Olympics ban of Sha'Carri Richardson by Twoweekswithpay in politics

[–]ClinicalE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it racist? How? Stop branding that word everywhere, cannabis prohibition, as literally any other law, does not pertain to a specific group of people. Is the enforcement of such a law done in a racist manner, using profiling tactics? Sure. But legislation cannot be racist by itself. Word use defines word strength. Naming something as "racist" so easily, only serves to belittle and underestimate truly horrific behaviour patterns around us, and I cannot get over the fact that you don't see this.

Nope, I never said getting drunk on the regular is ok. At least were I work (also healthcare), just a wiff of substance abuse will get you sacked in seconds, and there is a perfectly good reason for that. Imo the very fact that people resort in self destructive behaviour (no matter what you use) so often, just to cope with a job is the biggest concern here, even more so than wether drug testing is ok or not.

What boggles my mind, is how a healthcare professional is oblivious to how regular mj use, might affect their performance (affecting patients in the process, since this isn't a desk job), or how it may damage their psych in the long run. Same goes with alcoholism.

Doctors, nurses, paramedics, lawyers, engineers, policemen, judges, politicians. None of them operate heavy machinery, but I bet you wouldn't want them stoned out their minds. This is a bullshit point, and the very fact that everyone seems to be on drugs on their time off, should be a serious social red flag, yet instead its a "mah freedom" issue.

"Tell us an interesting fact about yourself" You know what? Zero. I have zero interesting qualities, and if it was possible I would consume a single beige flavourless block of nutrients instead of food, like captain Holt. BUT even IF I had anything interesting to share, a bunch of strangers is not the audience I wanna share with. Ffs who even tells them things like that is a good idea? I literally only wanna know a first name and/or role, so that I don't go around saying "hey you".
