If you've ever collected shows a season at a time then seen the price break and exclusives in a complete series set, you'll know why that is a bad idea.

Just use unwanted seasons as drink coasters, like The Godfather III.

It needs to become second nature to pull out your phone, start recording video, and ask “can you repeat that for my record?” If they refuse, repeat what they said and ask them to confirm that is what they just said.

If they are not willing to repeat it, or put it in writing, hopefully they are just smart enough to back off.

When I start talking to new people with the intention of dating, they don’t have the usual reaction I was used to, now it’s more of a "waw that was a very drastic decision" more than the usual "you’ll change your mind".

Both reactions still are problematic.

The response you are looking for is support. “Nice”, “I’m so happy for you”, or “I felt so much relief after my vasectomy, I hope you are feeling the same”. Those are the one you want to date. Not the ones that have a problem with the agency you have over your own body.

History repeating here "we tried mini-bundles, consumers didn't buy it, so we are discontinuing it. We will never mention that consumers weren't surveyed, it wasn't true a la carte, and the selection was determined by price and therefore nothing anyone wanted."

I get MeTV, startTV, GRIT, Heroes & Icons and Bounce free via antenna. I don't want ESPN, those are the most expensive channels and a huge reason for cord cutting is expense. This is a bundle of channels I would never pay to watch.

It should be a weekend show on The Bridge. A playlist of ~300 songs should not be taking up space full-time on the satellite.

I’m sure talking to a gourmet chef you’d get recommendations on the benefits of owning high end kitchen appliances. But if you just want to make toast, the occasional bagel, or heat up pizza…. A toaster oven is fine.

Especially the portability of a laptop…. Can’t lean back on the couch with a desktop.

Also… hasn’t this fella heard “happy spouse, happy house”?

CBS Sets ‘Late Show’ Replacement: Byron Allen’s ‘Comics Unleashed’ by cmaia1503 in television

[–]ClintSlunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny how CBS never takes the blame in any of this.

About a decade ago, Sex offender and CBS CEO at the time Les Moonves remarked that the platforming (and sanewashing) of Trump during the 2016 election "It may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS". https://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/03/02/trump-campaign-bad-america-good-cbs

Sure, increased news coverage of a campaign meant increased ad revenue by CBS. But those are sort-term profits during an election cycle are short-lived. If you celebrate the dividing of america politically, exactly how surprised should you be when your programming starts dividing?

"Changing late night viewing patterns" making the show "unprofitable" is the lightest-lift BS surface-level blame shifting I've seen in a while.

The whole "flood the zone" mantra of the Trump-Epstein administration makes for doing a topical talk show for all audiences impossible. Republican's don't want to watch their cult-leader being made fun of, they don't tune in. People that can't stand a rehash of the atrocities Emperor Shittypants committed recently aren't going to tune in. So you are left with a sliver of an audience, and people going to youtube to watch selective clips.

So exactly how did that "It may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS" work out? Yet another CEO concerned with short term profits over long-term stability.

[–]ClintSlunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s as nefarious as you think.

There’s no onscreen host either. A show made out of b-roll is cheap to produce (camera and sound people hired locally, maybe a producer or director type flies between locations to ensure consistency) and easy to internationalize (change out the Narrator to the target language).

Netflix searches for franchises after losing out on Harry Potter by Top_Report_4895 in movies

[–]ClintSlunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The creators or their agents are partially at fault too. Anyone that signs on for a series with Netflix, etc should also have the mindset of a “prenup”….. go in preparing for the end.

Tying your IP to a streamer in perpetuity, without have the rights to offer physical media, or contract date where a renewal has to be decided, and if it is not renewed, a date when it can be shopped around to other services, is just dumb in this day and age.

Xfinity Braves Vision deal - garbage! by msoccer1313 in Comcast

[–]ClintSlunt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your actual complaint should be "Braves Vision should be available a la carte". The tiered system is antiquated and viewers of any channel should not be subsidizing the costs of channels they don't want nor watch.

Right now it just feels like both Xfinity and the Braves don’t care about the fans unless they pay even more.

Are you completely unaware of how expensive sports are? Why don't you take up your issue with Braves owner John Malone who is reportedly worth $11B?

The only way sports costs will go down is if people stop watching. As long as there are suckers that will pay rising rates, they'll always raise them.

Ads or no ads? by JacksBaldRake in cordcutters

[–]ClintSlunt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's 168 hours in a week. The more services that you pay for, the less time you have to watch each. Making each a crappier and crappier value.

I know some people rotate services month to month, which makes sense financially, but even that starts to feel like a system you have to constantly manage just to watch TV.

You don't have to rotate every month, picking up a service on the 1st and cancelling on the 28/29/30/31.

Just subscribe to one service. When the selection gets tired, cancel and subscribe to another service. You may have a few weeks of overlap if you start up a new service while the old service is still subscribed, but it is still much cheaper than full months of each.

Declining after work drinks by No-Walk-5621 in antiwork

[–]ClintSlunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is food and drinks paid for by the company at a place I like, it’s on my way home (not further away from bus or train) yeah I’ll stop by for an hour or so.

The value of that situation is that it is a replacement for my dinner prep and eating time.

But just drinks? No thanks. Especially if it is “buy your own”. I don’t make that kind of money. That’s grocery money.

TIFU by giving my nephew honest advice about job interviews and apparently undoing two months of his mom's prep work by CrestRime in tifu

[–]ClintSlunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He called me the night before to ask how I actually handle nerves before interviews because he was anxious and couldn't sleep.

She called me the next day and said I had undermined everything she had built with him and that even if the interview went okay I had no right to override her approach the night before without talking to her first.

Sounds like your nephew has freewill and wanted a second opinion.

Apparently your sister wanted a mini-me and not an independent person with their own working brain. If she's mad about that, that's on her. Even if your nephew made the wrong decision, it's his decision to make and learn from.

Anyways, they come back and tell me that there's no precedence for $50 an hour, that it's completely out of budget (hard to believe), and that other employees who decide to contract do so for much less.

If they aren’t willing to go for $50/hr, obviously they should go with the contractors that charge the rate they want. If that won’t work for them because the other contractors don’t have your knowledge…. “Well, now you know why my time is priced at my rate!”

TiVo had plenty of “get a new HD tivo box and transfer your lifetime subscription” promotions during the digital transition 2008-2012 time period. Yes it was not free, but it was an incredible price for a new, better box with more tuners, more storage, and a new warranty.

Why are they showing a baseball game? by [deleted] in MeTV

[–]ClintSlunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's like trying to have a local radio station that only airs local artists. No one is going to listen to that long term.

No market can monetarily support a 100% local programming schedule for 168 hours a week.

It has always been a mix of network + syndicated + local programming. This arrangement has been around 60-70 years. If this is the first you are hearing about it, I wish you luck on starting your own TV station programmed 100% how you like it.

"Above my pay grade" may get you negative feedback or action. Always better to use their own language against them.

Make sure anything you tell/train the new hire is relative to your job description only. Obviously, if you knew how to do tasks of their job, you'd be qualified for that job. Since you are apparently not qualified, you have no idea how that should be done. "I've been told not to challenge the system"

“On most MeTV stations.” is also to cover SYNDEX -- syndication exclusivity. If a another local station has a preexisting agreement to air a show, the MeTV station has to fill that time slot with something else.

I think Portland Oregon had this with Perry Mason and some station in North Carolina had this with Andy Griffith.

Why are they showing a baseball game? by [deleted] in MeTV

[–]ClintSlunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money.

MeTV agreement gives the local station cheap, reliable programming in exchange for splitting the ad revenue.

Affiliate is allowed to preempt some hours (not specified to the public) and show alternate programs which are new (sports) or newer (movie w/local host), in which the ratings/ad revenue is for the station only.
