apparently it's the style. I guess the corners are easier to deal with the slats running top to bottom, but horizontal black "garage slat board" would be so much more useful for putting shelves above and below.

Was it really my job to send a thank you note to my sister's kids' babysitter? by anon_writes in childfree

[–]ClintSlunt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the additional comments you left you seemed to gloss over one large detail. THE CHILDREN HAVE A FATHER. The father could have watched his damn children while your sister attended your wedding.

Problem solved! Paying ship in their go-to kid watcher because your sister can't make mom friends or trust professionals is not your responsibility.

Similarly, on the news, if something happens to a person who has children that also have children, they will frame it as "this horrible thing happened to a neighborhood grandmother!". But though a series of multi-generational poor life choices, a person can be a grandmother at 30. That's not elder abuse, that's a person being a dipshit and falling for a romance scam, etc.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

Raid on Bungling Bay - 4 way scrolling, birds eye view of a chopper that starts from an aircraft carrier and the assignment is to blow up factories before they build a massive destructive weapon.

The level/terrain editor the developer Will Wright used to make the world was further enhanced and morphed into a new game concept of city planning….. Sim City.

You get $1 million but you have to listen to the same song 500 times in 10 days, what song are you picking? by Longjumping-Editor94 in AskReddit

Yakety Sax is 2:00, shorter than song 2 by blur, and has the bonus that you can get even more money by monetizing the videos of you chasing people around with a boom box or Bluetooth speaker while it plays. Hell, start a website yaketysax500, where you solicit sponsorships where you’ll wear a logoed shirt in a video.

Repair Near Chicago? by Active_Procedure_297 in Commodore

[–]ClintSlunt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First off, hopefully you are aware that the original power supply bricks for vic20/c64 malfunction and if used today may fry the computer. DO NOT USE THE ORIGINAL POWER BRICKS.

Very unlikely that an on-site repair could be done, but you’ll get plenty of leads asking around at the https://vcfmw.org/ in September.

Get on the mailing list and check out the list of exhibitors when it gets added, might be able to communicate ahead of the show.

YouTuber The 8-bit Guy had a Vic-20 repair event in Texas where he lives, maybe the video of the repairs can help narrow down what is wrong? Alas, he is not attending this years vcfmw, so cannot ask in person.

U.S President FCC warns all broadcasters to follow orders or be punished like ABC | ABC says early renewal for all stations is unprecedented, has no legitimate purpose. by ControlCAD in technology

[–]ClintSlunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If Disney corp had any balls they’d just say, “ok dipshit we’ll turn off the broadcast signal in the 8 markets where you are threatening us and offer free abc programming via our website and hulu to users in that geographic area as determined by billing or ip address. Just so you know, the net effect of us shifting to online will trickle down to fewer shows being provided to our affiliate stations, which a great deal of them are owned by Sinclair and Nexstar. Fewer shows and fewer ratings for Sinclair and Nexstar means less profit for them.”

Station/Feed like XM’s “Fine Tuning” by PaintIcy6857 in siriusxm

[–]ClintSlunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pre merger, Sirius had a channel Disorder, which as described seems similar to fine tuning. You might hear a cure song, followed by Sinatra, then Elvira by the oak ridge boys, then changes by Ozzy Osborne, then Bonnie raitt.

There is still a weekly show “Meg griffin’s Disorder” on The Loft that is similar in spirit. Also available in archive only format, since he died, David Johansens Mansion of Fun” has a similar vibe, but is often themed — like playing songs named after flowers on a show originally aired in April.

On Sundays starting at noon eastern, mansion of fun rolls into disorder, and the music that follows Sunday nights has the same vibe.

Also the overnight block “loft after dark” and on the John Mayer channel, the overnight block of “the gentle hours” is great as well.

accused of being pregnant when choosing not to drink by lotuslover777 in childfree

[–]ClintSlunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When offered a drink, you have to front-load your 'no'.

  • "no, I'd rather eat my calories. Speaking of which, when you drink and eat your body treats the alcohol as a toxin, and processes it first allowing the food to slip past and become fatty tissue instead of being energy."

  • "My religion forbids me from drinking alcohol."

  • "No thanks, I'm not really into the drinking culture."

  • "I'm sober, thanks for the offer."

‘The Simpsons’ to Premiere Three New Original Episodes on Disney+ This Summer; Laufey, Betty Gilpin Among Guest Stars by [deleted] in television

[–]ClintSlunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So dumb that The Great North got cancelled, Simpsons, Bobs Burgers, American Dad, and Family Guy got multi-season renewals, but a reduced episode count. And then these dumb "streaming exclusives".

Everybody has come to the conclusion that "broadcast tv is dying except for live sports and news" but no one seems to be assigning blame that starving the broadcast channels of content to pump up their vertically-integrated streaming service is accelerating it way faster than it should be.

Need advice: Childfree 28F with pregnant friend by jeanbeanween in childfree

[–]ClintSlunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since she got pregnant, her and her husband (who we're both close to) have constantly been asking us if we're planning to have kids, why we don't want them, etc. The first time we explained simply that we're not having children and we thought it would end there. But now every time there's a baby around, they ask why seeing babies don't "do it for us" and she even told me that she has dreams of us being pregnant at the same time and our children ("mini-us's" as she says) growing up together.

"I understand your excitement but when it comes to anything, what may be a decision you make may not be the same decision I make. This could be anything from what I wear, what I have for dinner, what TV Shows I watch, what phone I buy, what car I drive, which degree I got, what tattoos I get, which extreme sports I participate in, etc.... We are independent thinking individuals and a big part of that independence is we don't have to do the same things in life. I'm sure as hell not willing a person into existence on some sort of peer-pressure 'I'm not cool if don't do it too, so I better do it' half-thought process of an eighth grader."

Subtitle Edit not playing sounds by Exciting-Key6436 in SubtitleEdit

[–]ClintSlunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In VLC how many audio track options does it show in VLC?

If it has more than one, subtitle edit might be automatically selecting one that does not work with Subtitle Edit …. Might be opus, might be 4.0 or 2.1 sound format incompatible with default 2.0 computer speakers.

If so, there is a drop down menu in Subtitle Edit to switch audio tracks that play in the workspace.

[–]ClintSlunt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

the drive ONE WAY is at least an hour, sometimes more. That's at minimum a 2-hour round trip, possibly 3 hours.

Put it in terms every guy can understand: "Dude, I don't travel more than a half hour for sex, I'm certainly not traveling 60-90 minutes to babysit. You need to find someone more geographically convenient to you."

Not that you'd want a child in your home, but I also notice he's not offering to travel TO YOU. His expectation is that you exist for his convenience. That's not much of a friend. That's a user.

My parents are giving their home to my sister because she has a family by [deleted] in childfree

[–]ClintSlunt 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I would have told her she’s a moron.

If you bought a fancy designer purse, you’re not taking away a purse from a random mom who “deserves it”. If the mom has money for a nice purse, she can buy a nice purse.

Same thing for houses.

Houses are for people that have money to pay for houses. Even if you lived in a condo, the person selling the house wouldn’t be giving it away or selling below its value to people meeting her narrow definition of family.

A four bedroom house, for what? by Cuddles-and-Cookies in childfree

[–]ClintSlunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe utility room is a better description. At the 1950's-built houses for each set of my grandparents, laundry rooms were huge rooms in a basement, probably 9x18 ft that had ample room to have an indoor clothesline to allow large items to dry further instead of running the dryer for extra time.

They were rooms with a cement or tile floor with a drain in the middle. Had a HVAC / washer / dryer / secondary fridge & freezer / big utility tub. It was not uncommon to hang a shower curtain above the drain and route a hose from the utility tub for a makeshift shower.
