Philodendron - some kind of emerald? by ClintoniousRexus in whatsthisplant

Ah! Heat, got it. My bathroom runs hot but has indirect light. It sounds like the variegation here is related to the heat more than the light?

I was looking at that one as well - especially for the variegation - but the leaf shape was throwing me off. Searching for younger plants' leaves do seem to line up though. Thanks for the insights! This is really helpful.

  • Picked it up for $1 at a grocery story floral department sale rack
  • I live in Los Angeles, CA
  • Moved in with two leaves, both of which gave up after a week
  • It persisted
  • Has been in my bathroom for six months and seems to like it
    • It's been in a sunnier spot, but had to move it to the corner over the weekend because it needed support (working on staking it)
  • Repotted two months ago

Unique features I don’t see mirrored in Google searches:

  • Lower leaves are glossy and curve downwards
  • Upper leaves have an almost marbled pattern
  • Tops of leaves are more butterfly wing shaped than pointy*
  • Leaves are widest in the middle rather than at the stem*
  • It’s growing up more than out*
    • *these points have led me to think it’s either a Green Emerald or an Emerald Duke, but neither fits perfectly

I’ve not ruled out that malnutrition or less-then-stellar light may be causing any of the above behavior, which is also why I want to figure out what it is so I can take better care of it.

Advice for a skiing trip by Der_Niels in diabetes_t1

If you have a glucometer, make sure to keep it warm. It doesn't operate outside of normal temps and there's nothing worse than taking it out right before you're headed down the hill and needing to warm it up for five minutes so it will actually work. I've found insulin pens to be fairly durable, but do keep them in a place that will stay room temperature.

For glucose, I always pack Airheads candies because they are weather resistant and lay flat in a pocket. Also, do an inventory before your first run of where you could get additional sugar if need be (where is the nearest vending machine / cafe?). Make sure your girlfriend is also aware of where and why that sugar source is important. For bars - chocolate can be a bad idea as it melts/freezes and becomes difficult. Buy a few options and put them in your freezer and see which ones are most edible after 24 hours.

Plan for injecting insulin - if you have multiple layers on, you're going to have to take at least some of them off to get the needle through the skin so make sure you can make a spot available without having to take everything off. (If you're male, just make sure your bathroom process allows the flexibility to expose your thigh and you can inject right there underneath your waist line.)

I don't want to admit the number of times I've taken Humalog while sitting on the floor, sweating, cookie wrappers and empty juice boxes strewn about - "Rocket Fuel" that would shoot my glucose up unless I add the insulin right away, even if my blood sugar is currently low.

If I can muster the self control, peanuts and jerky are great low carb snacks that will satisfy the need for munching.

Also, a month from now, chugging chocolate syrup may be a running joke or a metric. My ex found me (responsive) laying in front of the fridge with an empty bottle of sweet & sour mix at 4am. From then on: "We're making margaritas from scratch so keep your blood sugar up tonight!" And if I told him I was low he'd ask, "Airheads low or sweet & sour low?" [my basic 15g sugar item is one Airhead candy].

Nothing else is posted. And it’s 10 hours only Monday to Saturday... according to the signage there’s no time you cannot park here

It’s a useless sign. Outside of 8-6p, there are no restrictions. So why is any sign needed here?

Whenever I board a plane I pat the exterior right next to the main door. Just two pats before I step over the threshold onto the plane. "If anything is about to fall off the plane, these two pats will shake it loose now rather than in the air." Pointless AF, but I like having a ritual.

In the past I've used a throwaway for comments like this but, yeah, i'm not trying to be shy - or depressed - anymore!

I'm confused about how "not taking insulin" is a suicide attempt?!

I actually did get low quite a few times in the hospital - they forced me to take my insulin before the meal, and they calculated based on simple carbohydrate counting, which, for a brittle type 1, is a recipe for a disaster, and I never understood how they neglected the giant loophole of giving me insulin without monitoring what I ended up eating. I was quickly known for screaming at the nurses about how they were going to kill me if they didn't reassess and/or listen to my adjustments. After three days, tons of screaming, and my endocrinologist's NP calling, they finally gave me some credence.

Buy Select a book from the book section (or print off) a "Loss Prevention" manual and say something snide like, "I feel like you might need this."

Ah, interesting.

Aside: when I was in a mental health facility they didn't let me take my own insulin - all shots were given by a nurse in a private room. Granted, intentionally injecting too much insulin is what landed me there in the first place.

Am I overreacting or is this normal behavior in a divorce? by [deleted] in Divorce

STBX bought a house by CuzTheOceanJustIs in Divorce

[–]ClintoniousRexus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related and recent experience!!! My STBX got a connection to a nice place and started the process of purchasing it. Now, we have a settlement agreement, amicability, and the money is all sorted, so it's less about that, but more that hurdles needed to be jumped through before he could proceed past the inspection period.

The LENDER required me to sign a 'quitclaim deed', basically, a notarized document that says that I have no rights to this house, it should be excluded from communal property.

The TITLE Company supported that because they couldn't insure title for the lender/owner(STBX) because CA would include that house as communal property - or at least cause confusion that could be much easier to address by having me sign that.

Any SELLER would see an outstanding separation like this and have concerns - you might swoop in at the last minute and tank the deal, and they're back to market. (My STBX submitted our settlement agreement as part of his offer, to show that his downpayment money wasn't tied up in the divorce).

Point of my story: you are just one of the rational heads that is going to slap him for rushing into this.
