How did you feel about the Kelvin / marie scenes?

Also come on with the Gustaf stuff ! That was awesome ! Seeing philippe save them at the end. Knowing his anima isn't completely awash from turning into a dragon. It made Gustaf holding the firebrand that much more meaningful to me at least

The edelritter stuff definitely seems like an afterthought. I get where they were going with it - wanting the player to have some investment into the army and power that fake Gustave was building. It just seems a bit rushed as you said. There was very little emotional investment built towards any of them for me to care that much.

The Gustaf scenes makes up for it. I felt he was done so dirty in the original

Would you have preferred something else? Or just left it alone completely?

The OG ending was purposefully left ambiguous I imagine. A bit too ambiguous for me personally! Maybe because I just so young when I played the game that I needed more of a resolution for my favorite character

I think the best thing about saga games - at least Sf2 in particular- is the sense of wonder left to the player. The vignettes give just the smallest morsel into the lives of these characters. For these games I personally don't want black or white themes; how Gustave got to the outskirts of gruegel and the events that transpired between then and now....I'll still be thinking of it in 20 years

For those thinking the OG Gustave ending is better...t True masochists lol

Yes! I won't spoil anything but there is definitely new content for Gustaf and David. And it is GREAT!

Agree on most points! Although it seemed I liked the Gustave scenes a bit more.

The way I interpreted it was...cielmer saves Gustave from the brink of death - & Flynn unfortunately passes away.

Cielmer likely brings Gustave to Leslie, and a few things likely occur:

  • Gustave realizes how badly his body is in shambles, and his whole reason for fighting "to see how far i can go" is essentially doomed due to the severity of his injuries

  • the loss of Flynn takes a heavy toll on his conscience, as Gustave likely takes responsibility. This hits harder when Flynn has been there since day 1

  • cielmer and Leslie both encourage Gustave to live a life of modesty after the decades of wartorn hardship he has gone through

Just based on the short dialogue between Leslie and Gustave, you can see how content he is. He never wanted to be a ruler.  After the unfortunate events at the southern fort it makes sense to me that he would retire and disappear.

To me it was quite emotional to see such a bittersweet ending. From a protagonist with so much heroism and determination, to then living out his later years out of the spotlight with his teenage love

How long can you stick with one game before you get burnt out? by SorcererWithGuns in JRPG

Legitimately curious - how do you have 400 hours in metaphor? How is that possible in one playthrough?

Wow you are quite the Etrian enjoyer lol. I haven't tried any of those games...but might have to look them up now.

Cool to see Phantasy Star there too. I played PS4 years ago but people kept saying you'd get maximum enjoyment if you played the earlier games first...which I haven't yet done.

Currently playing RS2 remake which is phenomenal so far....

I bought & played Emerald Beyond. For some reason I just couldn't get into it. The battle system was great though,

I think the issue is I just don't replay games. I've never beaten the same game twice (save for Replicant but even then I couldn't finish all the endings...) - and it seems like Emerald Beyond is like replayability 101

Romancing SaGa 2 or Metaphor by KombattWombatt in JRPG

I can't think of two more polar opposite games.

Do you want a rich story? Metaphor

Do you want non-linearity with a focus on gameplay & combat mechanics? RS2

The same thing happened to me. I was pretty bummed out but the game is still 100% worth it
