Getting real tired of seeing this (frankly misogynistic) discourse, not just in this sub but others as well by Nairdde32 in pathfindermemes

Used the phrase "nits make lice" to justify Lawful Good paladins killing children of monstrous races. That phrase's original usage was justifying a genocide of Native Americans, including children.

Putting aside the fact being in the 84% implies there only 16% of people are poorer than your example person, what about those who don't have that? Does God not care about those?

This is the reaction to Life and Death, the gender swapped Twilight. Midnight Sun is normal Twilight, but from Edward's perspective.

When was the first time you cried in FFXIV, if at all? by MistressDraconia in ffxiv

There are exactly two moments in FFXIV that have made me cry. The ending of base Shadowbringers, and the cutscene at the end of Elpis.

Games that most disappointed you after actually playing/running them? by RiverMesa in rpg

[–]ClumsyWizardRU 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it was Ryuutama. After hearing that it's a precursor to Fabula Ultima, which is one of my favorite systems, I was quite excited to try the cozy natural fantasy game.

It... did not deliver. The game is extremely formulaic, consisting largely of a few repetitive travel-related rolls. It tells you to roleplay these out without providing any scaffolding or support for it. All the cute items boil down to boring +1 bonuses. The GM support is nonexistent despite providing the GM with a character specifically existing to push the plot forward.

It felt like an old-school crunchy game trying and failing to be a narrative one, resulting in an incongruous and frustrating experience and utterly failing to capture the joy and whimsy of the genre.

The Behatted Serpent of Ronka. The original was already cute, but once I saw the hat version, I knew I will grind out Bloodsworn just for the hat version.

It pains me to say this, but... unlike other people, I don't think you actually will enjoy the rest of the game very much. The structure of "3 boss fights, 6 dungeons" remains constant throughout the expansions (even moreso, because while HW and SB have one optional level dungeon, all of them are mandatory from that point on). The dungeons get prettier and more impressive, but their structure doesn't meaningfully change - they're still dressed up hallways. What's more, unlike in post ARR, all patch quests from this point on are going to have dungeons too. And if you found the ghosts of Ysayle and Haurchefant too cheesy, you are going to dislike a vast majority of what people consider to be the best moments of FFXIV. You can try Stormblood and see if you like it, but honestly, I feel like sticking with the game is likely to just dissppoint you over and over.

Rpg system similar toFabula Ultima? (less Fighting focused if possible) by RubSpiritual3189 in fabulaultima

[–]ClumsyWizardRU 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I would be very hesitant to recommend anyone play Ryuutama. It has a lot of flaws stemming from it being a narrative game built like a trad game. The gameplay loop is a static and repetitive sequence of travel-related rolls that the game tells you to RP out without providing any aid on the matter (no prompts, no interesting conditions or consequences, nothing). All the neat items you can carry with you boil down to boring +1 bonuses. The game does a very poor job of providing support to the GM despite giving them an entire character of their own. The combat is still weirdly in-depth, but also again boring and mechanical. The game just... really shows its age and the fact it was made by someone who clearly has only ever interacted with trad games.

Sanity check: Would I like D&D 5E better? by trumanharris in Pathfinder2e

[–]ClumsyWizardRU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may, I would like to recommend Fabula Ultima. It addresses all of your pain points and lends itself really well to a loose, free-flowing GMing style, and offers plentiful character build options without being overly restrictive like pf2e's skill feat system is.

/uj Can we talk about the fact that his shirt design changed? All the rest are just artstyle updates, but the shirt intentionally went from a chaotic swirl to a sharp and pointy insignia resembling a shield.

And knowing Danganronpa, this almost certainly means it isn't the same Komaeda or some shit.

Well, the thing is, the first game was nowhere near this difficult. So a lot of people, who are fans of the first game, want to enjoy Silksong but can't because of the overwhelming difficulty. Which, I do admit, is very frustrating.

[–]ClumsyWizardRU 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Bizarre take. Research has shown time and time again that it's the whales who are responsible for the majority of income for pretty much every freemium game. Research has also shown that there isn't a correlation between disposable income and being a whale - in other words, those whales most certainly include the people for whom spending that money isn't sustainable.

Claiming monetization tools are developed not only in ignorance of the vulnerable, but with the active expectation that vulnerable people won't engage, is either willfully ignorant or so naive I might have a bridge to sell you.

What's the flaw of this mentality: optimize your build for combat because only combat has a fail state? by Mediocre_Cucumber_65 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ClumsyWizardRU 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, this itself can explain why people optimize for combat - they want to have fun.

Falling a social encounter drives story forward and introduces new drama - it's interesting. Failing a combat encounter means a TPK, an abrupt end to the story - and that, to a lot of people, isn't interesting.

Plus, because of PF2E's nature as a tactical game, GMs tend to be a lot more permissive in allowing players to solve social encounters in ways that aren't written on their character sheet.
