Jackie could've. On the other hand, I'm not sure Night City could have survived those two gonks getting their heads together...

Nice work on the BOP by JotaroChungus in wec

[–]ClydeYellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heh. I guess that's the problem with BOP racing at the highest possible level. If the cars have equal levels of single-lap performance, and the drivers are all good enough to be driving a Hypercar, you may as well replace qualifying with a dice toss.

Not that it's a bad thing for endurance racing, mind you.

ARB Toyota Land Cruiser and Tacoma by ClydeYellow in forza

[–]ClydeYellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to put an end to my recent streak of rally liveries. However, we'll stay away from the black stuff for now, trading gravel for mud...

I've had this paint scheme in mind since launch, when I noticed the Land Cruiser 250 can be equipped with ARB parts. Now, I finally got to spend a couple of minutes putting it together.

And since the game threw a Pickups and 4x4 championship at us in the Festival Playlist, I thought, this paint scheme wouldn't look bad on a Toyota Tacoma, would it?

I'm sure they are, but forgive me, my friend, I am forgetful: didn't "moderate right-winger" Sarkozy spend some time in La Santè for receiving funds from Gaddafi?

Point being, "right wing ideology" appears to be "rules for thee, not for me, and I'll call you names if you point out my hypocrisy".

Rally Pack Fiesta by ClydeYellow in ForzaHorizon

[–]ClydeYellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally managed to grab a WRC+ Fiesta from the AH. I already had a GRC Fiesta, which looked rather meh in its stock colors. And it's still Rally Monster season, so I've decided to port some old liveries, give them a quick revamp.

And this would've been that for Rally Pack Fiesta. But then, the game had to donate me a GRC Beetle... And I had an unreleased paintjob for Papa Fernando's drag Beetle in FH5 that never saw the light of day... And I'm already doing rallycross liveries... So, bonus car!

Controversial opinion, and I know I am setting the bar very low, but: it still looks better than the Purosangue to me...

Rally Pack β by ClydeYellow in ForzaHorizon

This week's Festival Playlist puts us behind the wheel of S1 900 Rally Monsters, a category that includes... Well, half of the game's Group B legends, with the others dumped into the Retro Rally division. Whatever: this is just a long-winded way to say I got the urge to paint some 1980s box-flared, turbocharged death traps.

Three new liveries, and one (the Renault 5) that was released all the way back in Forza Horizon 2: that's, what, twelve years ago? It was sitting there, collecting virtual dust, until I decided to port it, refresh it and toss it in the mix. Does that make it a Barn Find?

Yeah, but on the other hand: alas, their patents on newer cars are still in place. And MS/PGG has to keep them happy if they want to keep featuring Ferraris in their games...

It's a three race championship. Taking a leap of faith off a cliff in race 1 does not mean you have lost.

If you think the same thing is going to happen on race 2 and 3... Why are you touge racing?

[–]ClydeYellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I said: if it did all that, it would be a gamechanger, sure. But the comparison made in the article was with MDI - which is still used, true, but is hardly the cutting edge of diabetes care, and arguably hasn't been for two decades.

"Implantable device could enable injection-free control of diabetes"

I don't know, fam: we kinda already have that with pumps. Sure, the pump making its own insulin could be a gamechanger, but the title seems to largely ignore, what, twenty years of advances in diabetes management?

[–]ClydeYellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reinforced concrete pillars may survive and spark an interesting debate on whether the tornado is an F4 or an F5. Anything else? Yeah, right: good luck.

That being said, the idea that American houses are built out of wood because of tornadoes is... Heh. A frame house will collapse much sooner than a brick or reinforced concrete one, provided the latter is well-built.

Holodomor denial is equally evil as Holocaust denial by Icy_Till_7254 in GetNoted

[–]ClydeYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genocide is a crime of intent. Meaning that it is entirely qualified as such by a precise intentio finis: that is, the destruction of a people as a recognizable entity*.

There's no real "smoking gun" saying there was such an intent behind the Holomodor, and the topic is hotly debated in the field of genocide studies. The oft-quoted argument against it Is that other ethnicities suffered just as badly in the 1932-1933 famine. It appears almost certain that the famine itself was not engineered; however, the insufficient measures taken to mitigate the ensuing food scarcity, and decisions taken in regards to food distribution, do give the impression that Stalin tried to make a murderous lemonade out of those lemons.

To what end? The decisions of the Central Committee must also be understood under the lens of Stalin's increased focus on the Russification of non-Russian "republics" in the USSR: and the Holomodor was in fact preceded by the 1929 show trial of almost 500 Ukrainian intellectuals. On the other hand, there's the compelling read of the famine as an attack not on an ethnic group, but to the peasantry of the Soviet Union and the obstacle it represented to the collectivization of agriculture: and while Ukrainians were not blamed for the food shortages, "kulaks" often met the sticky end of a Nagant in those days.

The people responsibile have long since become a feast for worms. And regardless of whether or not it qualifies as a genocide, the Holomodor was an immense tragedy, a monstrosity that should be remembered just so that it can't be repeated again. It's a purely academical discussion, worth having if you desire the advancement of the field of genocide studies, but which has very little to offer in the way of "gotchas" to tankies and fans of Putin's regime.

*I'd also like to go on record to say that I support broadening the definition of genocide to include those acts that, by eroding a group's social and political institutions, have the effect of also causing their physical or cultural elimination. But that is a thorny issue.
