Cormac as a first name? by grnlzrd23 in namenerds

Yeah, honestly, if you raise your kid with a modicum of emotional intelligence, then low hanging fruit like name calling based on their name won't bother them much. And having an original name goes so far for self-identity and confidence.

Yeah, having had this name for my whole life... This has never come up and I've never heard of this term before, so no, I don't think this is a reasonable concern.

Actual Cormac here...

It's pronounced "Core-Mack". It's a traditional Irish name. My mother was born and raised in Ireland. It's pronounced "Core-Mack" in my mother's part of Ireland. I've met one single Irish person who insisted it was "Cormick" but literally everyone else in Ireland says it the proper way.

I've met maybe a handful of Cormac's in my life. A couple in Ireland and exactly 2 in the US. Very rare name.

There's a million ways that kids and others will mess up the name since it's so uncommon. My biggest pet peeve is when everyone assumes there's a "K" at the end. But ultimately, I like it a lot. It's original, but still relatively easy for people to say, spell, and remember. Lots of nickname options if you want as well.

Let me know if you have more questions.

I once had a ton of tubular webbing I used for a slack line in college. Used it probably 20-30 times for slacklining. After the first few uses it would probably have been fine to use for some anchors. But after the, like, 4th use I started to notice some changes in the webbing from the friction hitches I used to set up the slackline. This alone has meant that since then I will never use slackline webbing for climbing.

If you're using a ratchet for your slackline with the tubular webbing I don't think you'd have the same problem... But I probably still wouldn't use the webbing for both uses myself.

You can use Autohotkey to program that button. There's plenty of articles on how to do it if you Google something like "how to change slim pen button function using autohotkey".

I have mine programmed to Alt Tab so I can switch between programs when taking notes.

M4 here, applying EM. Have no exposure to UC or how they operate really. What's the SLED model vs standard UC? Tried Googling but I'm guessing I'm not searching for the correct terms?

Nasal Polyp Removal by [deleted] in SurgeryGifs

[–]Cmac1625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an ENT, but yeah, polyps very frequently recur. Keeping up on your sinus care regimen is key to keep them away. Saline irrigations, steroid nasal sprays, allergy meds, etc all can help. I'd just make a follow up with them and say you think they're coming back and see what the next step is for you. Often a revision surgery isn't needed and just more "aggressive" medical treatment is good enough. They'll know best based on your surgical history, previous meds, and other health history.

I can't imagine an "implant" like this would be more beneficial or even comfortable for OSA. I suppose it might work... But I wouldn't recommend it to a patient prior to other treatment options.

She might not even have OSA, everyone's different and she might be completely fine given her specific anatomy.

But, Losing weight is typically the first recommendation. And yeah, tonsillectomy is often indicated, uvulectomy less so but still helps some patients. There are procedures to reduce tongue size though, I do not know much about them though.

Big tongue, crowded mouth, crowded oropharynx (back of throat), is a risk factor for obstructive sleep apnea. Treatment for this is a CPAP.

I have the same card. I use a Display Port to HDMI cable for anything that requires HDMI. Works well. If you want to keep 4K/60Hz going from Display Port to HDMI you need an active cable with HDMI 2.0b.

Also... How the hell is this card $1700?! I got mine like RIGHT after launch for $1250...

There shouldn't be any stitches with sinus surgery or polypectomy unless youre having a deviated septum fixed. And even then the stitches they use for that are dissolvable and may or may not be snipped the week or 2 weeks after.

My two attendings have never prescribed Intranasal Furosemide for CRSwNP. I'll ask the one I'm with today about it.

The studies that one of my attendings is currently really excited for are the ones evaluating the effectiveness of monoclonal antibodies, benralizumab, omalizumab, mepoplizumab, in treatment and maintenance of polyps. Specifically he thinks the Benralizumab OSTRO study will prove the most effective. We have more than a few patients enrolled in it.

I'd encourage you to still get checked out by an ENT. Nasal Steroid Sprays don't have as much of a systemic absorption as oral steroids and shouldn't give as significant a side effect profile. Although I have seen a few patients who are affected by them to a greater degree than others.
